Formatting asp net gridview control Part 7

Use the script below to create employees table and populate it with sample data. CREATE TABLE [tblEmployee] ( [EmployeeId] [int] IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY, [FirstName] [nvarchar](50), [LastName] [nvarchar](50), [DateOfBirth] [datetime], [AnnualSalary] [int], [Gender] [nvarchar](50), [DepartmentName] [nvarchar](50) ) Insert into tblEmployee values ('John','Johnson','08/10/1982',55000,'Male','IT') Insert into tblEmployee values ('Pam','Roberts','11/11/1979',62000,'Female','HR') Insert into tblEmployee values ('David','John','01/15/1980',45000,'Male','IT') Insert into tblEmployee values ('Rose','Mary','08/18/1967',78000,'Female','Payroll') Insert into tblEmployee values ('Mark','Mell','12/10/1974',69000,'Male','HR') Use "SqlDataSource" control to retrieve data from the database and bind it to gridview control. By default, all the columns from the table are displayed in the gridview control. For example, I don't want to display EmployeeId column in the gridview control. There are 3 ways to achieve this 1. You can modify "SqlDataSource" control "SELECT" query, to include only the columns that you need. 2. Remove the "BoundField" column from gridview control that displays, EmployeeId 3. Set visibility property to false on the "BoundField" column from gridview control that displays, EmployeeId Notice the column headers in the gridview control. They are same as the column names in the table. For example, we want a space between First and Name in FirstName. Similary, we want spaces for LastName, DateOfBirth, AnnualSalary and DepartmentName. FirstName = First Name LastName = Last Name DateOfBirth = Date Of Birth AnnualSalary = Annual Salary DepartmentName = Department Name To achieve this, change "HeaderText" property of the respective column, in the gridview control. When you run the application, DateOfBirth column displays both Date and Time. I want only the "date" to be displayed. We can very easily achieve this using DataFormatString property. We have set DataFormatString="{0:d}", which will display short date pattern. Setting DataFormatString="{0:D}", will display long date pattern. For the complete list of "Standard Date and Time Format Strings", please visit MSDN link below. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/az4se3k1.aspx For the annual salary column, I want to display currency symbol. For example, depending on your application requirement, you may want to display, either United States dollar ($), Great British Pound(£) or Indian Rupee Symbol. To achieve this use currency format string "0:c". If you want to display 2 decimal places using "0:c2" For the complete list of "Standard Numeric Format Strings", please visit MSDN link below. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dwhawy9k.aspx Currency symbol will be displayed, based on the default culture setting. For example, If your default culture setting is "en-US", United States Dollar symbol will be displayed If your default culture setting is "en-GB", Great British Pound symbol will be displayed If your default culture setting is "en-IN", Indian Rupee symbol will be displayed Culture can be specified in web.config using globalization element's culture attribute. It is possible to override culture setting on a page-by-page basis. To set the culture declaratively in the aspx page, use "Culture" attribute of the "Page" directive. To override the culture programmatically System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = new System.Globalization.CultureInfo("en-GB");

This is continuation to Part 153, please watch Part 153 before proceeding. To configure styles for the statically displayed portion of the menu, use StaticMenuStyle - Applicable for the entire statically displayed portion of the menu StaticMenuItemStyle - Applicable for the individual menu items in the statically displayed portion of the menu StaticSelectedStyle - Applicable for the selected menu item in the statically displayed portion of the menu StaticHoverStyle - Applicable for the statically displayed menu item over which mouse is hovered over To configure styles for the dynamically displayed portion of the menu, use DynamicMenuStyle - Applicable for the entire dynamically displayed portion of the menu DynamicMenuItemStyle - Applicable for the individual menu items in the dynamically displayed portion of the menu DynamicSelectedStyle - Applicable for the selected menu item in the dynamically displayed portion of the menu DynamicHoverStyle - Applicable for the dynamically displayed menu item over which mouse is hovered over To configure styles for each level in the menu control, use LevelMenuItemStyles - If the menu control has 2 levels, you will have the html as shown below. MenuLevel1 css class will be applied for menu items at level 1. Along the same lines MenuLevel2 css class will be applied for menu items at level 2. LevelSelectedStyles - If the menu control has 2 levels, you will have the html as shown below. Yellow color will be applied for the menu item selected at level 1. Maroon color will be applied for menu item selected at level 2. If you are following along with the example in the demo, for LevelSelectedStyles, StaticSelectedStyle and DynamicSelectedStyle to work, you need the following code in Page_Load of the master page. protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { foreach (MenuItem item in Menu1.Items) { Check(item); } } private void Check(MenuItem item) { if (item.NavigateUrl.Equals(Request.AppRelativeCurrentExecutionFilePath, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)) { item.Selected = true; } else if (item.ChildItems.Count ] 0) { foreach (MenuItem menuItem in item.ChildItems) { Check(menuItem); } } }

Introducing Bootstrap for ASP.NET Web Developement Across Multiple Devices

17:20
ASP.NET templates let you build a responsive Web site that looks good on mobile devices, tablets and PCs. The templates use the Bootstrap CSS Framework, which makes it really easy to build a responsive Web site and has great theming support. In this video, we'll show you how all of this works in Visual Studio 2013.
Bootstrap table classes

06:02
bootstrap table styles bootstrap table hover bootstrap table condensed bootstrap table border bootstrap table responsive bootstrap table example bootstrap table striped example bootstrap table with border bootstrap condensed table bootstrap responsive table example bootstrap table contextual classes example In this video we will discuss styling tables using bootstrap classes. table class provides light padding and horizontal lines table-striped class provides zebra-striping for the table rows table-bordered class provide borders on all sides of the table and cells. table-hover class provides highlighting of rows on hover table-condensed class makes table more compact by cutting cell padding in half To make a table responsive, place the table inside a div element, and apply table-responsive class on the div element. This will provide a horizontal scrollbar when the screen size is less than 768px (i.e on a small device). On a screen size larger than 768px you will not find any difference. Applying the table-responsive class directly on the table will not do anything useful. Use the bootstrap contextual classes to colour the table rows Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2016/06/bootstrap-table-classes.html Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1

The content for the Menu control can be specified directly in the control or the menu control can be bound to a datasource. We will discuss databinding in a later video session. In this video, let's discuss specifying the contents directly in the control. A Menu control is a collection of MenuItem objects. By default, the menu control is displayed using vertical orientation. If you want to change its orientation to Horizontal, use Orientation property. By default, StaticDisplayLevels Property is set to 1. This means only the first level is statically displayed. If you want 2 levels to be displayed statically, you would set this property to 2. To control the amount of time it takes for the dynamically displayed portion of a menu to disappear, use DisappearAfter property. This is in milliseconds. If you want the menu to disappear after 2 seconds, you would set it to 2000 milliseconds.

ASP NET TextBox and JavaScript

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/03/aspnet-textbox-and-javascript.html In this video we will discuss 1. JavaScript focus method 2. JavaScript select method 3. How to count the number of characters as you type in a textbox and display that count in a label control JavaScript focus method : focus() method is used to put the keyboard cursor in a particular textbox when the web page loads so that we can start typing without having to first click in the textbox with the mouse. For example, when a web page with the following HTML and JavaScript is loaded, the keyboard cursor is already in the textbox waiting for the user to type his input. There is no need for the user to first click in the textbox with his mouse. Name : [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById("TextBox1").focus(); [/script] focus() method can be used with most HTML elements. For example, when a web page with the following HTML and JavaScript is loaded, the keyboard focus is set to DropDownList1 control. You can change the Gender value in the DropDownList by pressing ALT + Down Arrow keys simultaneously. Since we are using focus() method there is no need to first click on the DropDownList with the mouse.

Name [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox]

Gender [asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList1" runat="server"] [asp:ListItem Text="Male" Value="Male"][/asp:ListItem] [asp:ListItem Text="Female" Value="Female"][/asp:ListItem] [/asp:DropDownList]

[script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById("DropDownList1").focus(); [/script] JavaScript select method : select() method is used to select the contents of a text field, so when you start typing, the new text that you have typed will automatically replace the existing selected text. You can use select() method with textbox and textarea controls. When a web page with the following HTML and JavaScript is loaded, the text in the textarea element is selected and when you start typing, the new text that you typed will replace the existing selected text.

Name [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox]

Comments [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" TextMode="MultiLine" runat="server" Text="Type your comments here"][/asp:TextBox]

[script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById("TextBox2").select(); [/script] How to count the number of characters as you type in a textbox and display the count in a label control Name : [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" onkeyup="CountCharacters();"] [/asp:TextBox] [asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server"][/asp:Label] [script type="text/javascript"] function CountCharacters() { document.getElementById("Label1").innerHTML = document.getElementById("TextBox1").value.length + " charactes"; } [/script]

This is continuation to Part 1. Please watch Part 1, before proceeding. There are 2 ways to set the ChartType property 1. Declaratively in the HTML using ChartType attribute as shown below. [Series] [asp:Series Name="Series1" ChartArea="ChartArea1" ChartType="Pie"] [Points] [asp:DataPoint AxisLabel="Mark" YValues="800,0,0,0,0,0" /] [asp:DataPoint AxisLabel="Steve" YValues="900,0,0,0,0,0" /] [asp:DataPoint AxisLabel="John" YValues="700,0,0,0,0,0" /] [asp:DataPoint AxisLabel="Mary" YValues="900,0,0,0,0,0" /] [asp:DataPoint AxisLabel="Ben" YValues="600,0,0,0,0,0" /] [/Points] [/asp:Series] [/Series] 2. jQuery datatables server side processing example asp net

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/08/jquery-datatables-server-side.html In this video we will discuss implementing server-side processing for jQuery datatables plugin. This is continuation to Parts 108 and 109. Please watch Parts 108 and 109 from jQuery tutorial before proceeding. Here is the request and response cycle jQuery datatables plugin sends the request to the ASP.NET generic handler on the web server. The ASP.NET generic handler will then call the stored procedure in the database. Retrieves the data and converts it to JSON format. The JSON formatted data will then be displayed on the page by the jQuery datatables plugin Step 1 : Add a WebForm to your Demo project. Step 2 : Copy and paste the following HTML and jQuery code on the webform. Notice that we have set bServerSide option to true. This will tell the jQuery datatables plugin to use server-side processing. We also have set sAjaxSource to EmployeeDataHandler.ashx. 28 - ASP.NET Master Page Layout With CSS

06:19
It is better to use CSS with Master pages. Once your master page has been created then it is easy to maintain your codes. If you are not satisfied with a shared content, such as header or footer, all you have to do is modify the Master page and the modification would be reflected across all pages that you have applied the Master page to. Whenever you add a new page to your website, you will get an option to apply any Master to the new page. You can have multiple Master pages in one web application to give different pages a different look and feel.

Part 64 Implement sorting in asp net mvc

16:34
C#, SQL Server, WCF, MVC and ASP .NET video tutorials for beginners http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists In this video, we will discuss, implementing sort functionality in an asp.net mvc application. We will be working with the same example that we started in Part 62. So, please watch Parts 62 and 63 before proceeding with this video. We want to support bi-directional sorting by Name and Gender columns. Here's the requirement 1. Name & Gender columns must be clickable hyperlinks 2. Clicking on the column headers should sort the data. If the data is not already sorted by the column on which you have clicked, the data should be sorted in ascending order. Clicking again on the same column should sort the data in descending order. 3. By default, the data should be sorted by "Name" in ascending order. By the end of this video, the output should be as shown below. Notice that "Name" and "Gender" columns are rendered as hyperlinks, which the user can click to sort data. Step 1: Modify the "Index()" action method in HomeController as shown below. public ActionResult Index(string searchBy, string search, int? page, string sortBy) { ViewBag.NameSort = String.IsNullOrEmpty(sortBy) ? "Name desc" : ""; ViewBag.GenderSort = sortBy == "Gender" ? "Gender desc" : "Gender"; var employees = db.Employees.AsQueryable(); if (searchBy == "Gender") { employees = employees.Where(x =] x.Gender == search || search == null); } else { employees = employees.Where(x =] x.Name.StartsWith(search) || search == null); } switch (sortBy) { case "Name desc": employees = employees.OrderByDescending(x =] x.Name); break; case "Gender desc": employees = employees.OrderByDescending(x =] x.Gender); break; case "Gender": employees = employees.OrderBy(x =] x.Gender); break; default: employees = employees.OrderBy(x =] x.Name); break; } return View(employees.ToPagedList(page ?? 1, 3)); } Step 2: Modify the code in Index.cshtml view as shown below. Please pay attention to the code highlighted with Grey colour. @using PagedList; @using PagedList.Mvc; @model PagedList.IPagedList[MVCDemo.Models.Employee] @{ ViewBag.Title = "Index"; } [link href="~/Content/PagedList.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /] [div style="font-family:Arial"]
Employee List
[p] @using (@Html.BeginForm("Index", "Home", FormMethod.Get)) { Search By: @Html.RadioButton("searchBy", "Name", true) [text]Name[/text] @Html.RadioButton("searchBy", "Gender") [text]Gender[/text][br /] @Html.TextBox("search") [input type="submit" value="search" /] } [/p]

[th] @Html.ActionLink("Name", "Index", new { sortBy = ViewBag.NameSort, searchBy = Request["searchBy"], search = Request["search"] }) [/th] [th] @Html.ActionLink("Gender", "Index", new { sortBy = ViewBag.GenderSort, searchBy = Request["searchBy"], search = Request["search"] }) [/th] [th] @Html.DisplayNameFor(model =] model.First().Email) [/th] [th]Action[/th]
@if (Model.Count() == 0) {
No records match search criteria
} else { foreach (var item in Model) {
@Html.DisplayFor(modelItem =] item.Name) @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem =] item.Gender) @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem =] item.Email) @Html.ActionLink("Edit", "Edit", new { id = item.ID }) | @Html.ActionLink("Details", "Details", new { id = item.ID }) | @Html.ActionLink("Delete", "Delete", new { id = item.ID })
} }
@Html.PagedListPager(Model, page =] Url.Action("Index", new { page, searchBy = Request.QueryString["searchBy"], search = Request.QueryString["search"], sortBy = Request["sortBy"] }), new PagedListRenderOptions() { Display = PagedListDisplayMode.IfNeeded }) [/div]

Overview In this video you will come to know about the purpose or Style.Render, Script.Render, and BundleConfig.cs file in asp.net mvc application. SOCIAL : Like TechnoTips official Page : http://facebook.com/technotipstutorial Subscribe : http://youtube.com/user/aapkanigam Follow us on Twitter : @technotipsMVC Get CODE HERE: http://technotipstutorial.blogspot.in/2017/01/part-22-stylerender-scriptrender.html INTRODUCTION : Why Style.Render() and Script.Render() method are used in layout? Style.Render() o It is used to render the bundle of CSS files defined in Bundleconfig.CS file. Script.Render() o It is used to render the bundle of Scripts files defined in BundleConfig.CS file. Style.Render() and Script.Render() generate multiple Style and Script tags for each item in the CSS bundle and Scripts bundle when optimizations are disabled. How to enable optimization? Open Global.asax file and in Application_Start set EnableOptimizations = true , Like in following example RECOMMENDATION: 1.Create Navigation bar (bootstrap playlist) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwqcoXMwgQU&index=3&list=PLM5JAv_WpgH9BrISrthg3-u6ak8_IlNe5 TAGS : Style.render Script.render Partial view in mvc html.partial html.RenderAction how to create a - website how to create bootstrap popup modal asp. net mvc asp.net mvc interview questions asp.net mvc 5 tutorial model view controller jquery-ajax Post

EmptyDataText and EmptyDataTemplate properties of asp.net gridview control - Part 27

07:46
Link for csharp, asp.net, ado.net, dotnet basics and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for text version of this video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/03/emptydatatext-and-emptydatatemplate.html EmptyDataText and EmptyDataTemplate properties of asp.net gridview control - Part 27 By default an asp.net gridview will not display anything on the webform, if there are no rows in the datasource to which the gridview is bound. For example, let us say we are binding a gridview control to tblProduct table. If there are no rows in this table, then the gridview does not render any thing on the webform. If there are no rows, I want the gridview to display a message stating - "There are no products to display". There are 2 ways to achieve this. 1. Set EmptyDataText property of the gridview control OR 2. Use EmptyDataTemplate EmptyDataRowStyle Property can be used to set the display styles of the empty data row. If you set both, EmptyDataTemplate is used instead of EmptyDataText. The difference, between the 2 is that, if you want to have greater on what you want to display, then use EmptyDataTemplate. For example, I want the gridview to render an HTML table with a header and a message To achieve this I would use EmptyDataTemplate

Setting up bootstrap

09:13
setup bootstrap using bootstrap with asp.net web forms simple bootstrap web page simple bootstrap page bootstrap sample page code bootstrap example page bootstrap files list bootstrap 3 folder structure twitter bootstrap folder structure how to use bootstrap in html step by step how to include bootstrap in html bootstrap first page template first bootstrap page In this video we will discuss how to download, set up and create our first bootstrap web page To get started with Bootstrap the first step is to download Bootstrap from http://getbootstrap.com. This website also has all the documentaion you need to get started with bootstrap. As of this recording the version is 3.3.6. With the download you get a single zip folder which contains all the required bootstrap components. Unzip the ZIP folder and you should see the following folder structure. Notice there are 3 sub-folders (css, fonts & js). Let us understand the use of each file, folder by folder. Files in "css" folder bootstrap.css - This is the core css for BootStrap that defines all the style for various controls and components bootstrap.css.map - When debugging the minified code, the line numbers do not refer to the orignal files. The file that has the .map extension which is also called as source map file fixes this problem by allowing the web debuggers to refer to the original context from where the code was generated. This file is useful during development. bootstrap.min.css - This is the compressed version meaning all the whitespaces, line breaks and any other extra characters have been removed. As a result the size of the minified file is smaller than the non-minified file. Minified version is usually used on a production server for efficient download where as the non minified version is used in development environment as it is more readable and easy to debug if there are issues. bootstrap.min.css.map - Source map file for bootstrap.min.css bootstrap-theme.css - As the name suggests this is the theme for bootstrap. Adding the core bootstrap.css is enough for bootstrap to work. The theme file is optional and is usually used for a visually enhanced experience. For example if you want 3D effects, gradients, shadows etc. bootstrap-theme.css.map - Source map file for bootstrap-theme.css bootstrap-theme.min.css - Minified version of bootstrap-theme.css bootstrap-theme.min.css.map - Source map file for bootstrap-theme.min.css Files in "fonts" folder There are 5 different font files from Glyphicons. These 5 different files are just different format of the Glyphicons font, to support different browsers. Files in "js" folder : These JavaScript files are optional. These are required if you want to use bootstrap widgets like picture carousel, dropdown menus, collapsible accordian etc. One important thing to keep in mind is that boostrap JavaScript has a dependency on jQuery, so a reference to jQuery must also exist on the page where you want to use Bootstrap. bootstrap.js - This is the non-minified readable version that is usually used during development. bootstrap.min.js - Minified version of bootstrap.js optimised for faster download. This is the version that is usually used in a production environment. npm.js - npm is a file from Node.js and is used for npm installing bootstrap. If you are new to Node.js, don't worry, this is not going to come in the way to understand bootstrap. For this course I am going to use Visual Studio 2013 as the editor. You can use any editor of your choice. Here are the steps to create your first web page with Bootstrap 1. Create a new empty ASP.NET web application project. Name it BootstrapDemo 2. To use bootstrap in your website, copy the folder that contains 3 sub-folders (css, fonts, & js) in your website project folder. 3. Add a new HTML file to the project. Name it index.html. 3. There is a basic template available at the following link. Copy and paste the template code in index.html http://getbootstrap.com/getting-started/#template Please note : The viewport meta tag ensure proper rendering and touch zooming on a mobile device.
