In the reputation management part he talks about consumer brand analytics, marketing communications and product reviews. Cansumer brand analytics is basically what other people say about a specific brand. They also help to determine whether marketing campaigns are effective. Social media also automatically mine for product reviews by searching for information on product features, new requests, ... Citizen response is useful to see if the public supports a bill that is going through Congress and also which parts of it they like and which the do not. This can similarly be used for political campaigns and law enforcement, for example: a gang member boasts on a social network and planning protests through twitter. With social media we also see a trend of citizen journalism which provides information which is more useful than that from newsagencies. A problem with citizen journalism is that you have to wade through many low-quality posts before you find useful information. Social media can very succesfully be used for marketing since it delivers very personalized recommendations. Polls also show that posters on online forums are brand advocates. With social media we are also able to identify social networks such as groups and their members. But we are also able to identify topics and sentiment.

Hootsuite has been around a long time and is still very noteworthy. It works with multiple social networks, but is ideal for keeping track of search terms on Twitter and for scheduling social activity amidst a longer-term campaign. You can start with this platform for free and upgrade as you need new functionality. Even so, the price point remains on the lower end of the spectrum when you're starting to grow, which is a huge selling point. You can't mention Hootsuite without Tweetdeck, since they're huge competitors in the Twitter-sphere especially in terms of aesthetics and price. It's free and easy to monitor Twitter search activity and you can schedule Twitter social activity, too. It doesn't work with any other social network, but may be a serious option to consider because it's useful and totally free. People don't often think of the value of Google Alerts within this discussion. Just like you might check Google for certain search terms, you can set up alerts to be sent to you as soon as Google has any new result. This can be very useful for monitoring activity that involves your company's name, as well as being useful for keeping an eye on general information within your given industry. Signing up and receiving these Google email alerts is a great way to stay on the pulse. The Buffer App is a favorite based on the technology its team created a few years back. It enables you to schedule social activity in advance, through an editorial system in the settings. When you have content to share, you can just write the copy and throw the information in the "buffer" for it to publish in the next designated time slot. This saves a lot of time for the busy social media manager trying to keep activity flowing on a company's various social accounts. While it's not totally ideal for longterm campaigns, it is a great tool overall and a free one at that! There's an upgrade option when needed, and a recently added Business account that comes with better analytic capabilities. Lastly, there is a great platform called Sprout Social, which at first glance may be seen as a high-level Hootsuite competitor. It has functionality to track search info across multiple sites and is very seamless and easy to use. It also offers contact management and lead generation that makes it worth the price (an increase over the others). Be sure to take advantage of the free trial, and after that, it's $35 per month. But it's a headache for brands and customer insights professionals because social listening and monitoring tools can't understand those characters accurately. Consequently, social media insights get screwed up. Transcript of the video: People love using emojis on social media, since they are cute, fun and colorful. You might be using emojis for your brand posts to make them look look lively and interesting. But these cute elements can cause misinterpretations when you use social media analytics tools at the same time. Emojis can be in different styles Different devices and operating systems display emojis in different styles, and tons of new emojis are created every day. This makes it difficult for a typical social media analytics tool to interpret their true meaning. For example, this is how a grinning emoji looks like on multiple devices such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, and on different social media platforms. Emojis damage the results of a sentiment analysis Understanding the meaning of an emoji also depends on the context of a particular post. In this Instagram post, a user has used a persevering emoji when she expressed her homesickness. Persevering emoji is often used to express hopelessness or negativity. But in this situation, it indicates a positive reaction to the photo of the place where she considers as her second home. Since emojis can deliver a range of sentiment, social media posts containing them might have vague meanings. If you let a computer-based analytics tool measure your social sentiment score, it will probably apply a default meaning for an emoji showing up in all of the posts and neglect actual contexts. As a result, your sentiment score will be misinterpreted.
