Solution: We created a successful three day event, coordinated and produced seven shows with our creative team and selected model group. We documented the show and the work behind the scenes with documentary photography and digital films. The entire brand experience was boosted by styled multimedia productions. At the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, we hosted one-hundred and sixty people, all with a focus on creating and distributing great brand stories. Brands like Mondelez, Dr. Pepper, Hyundia, Pepsi, HBO, Dick’s Sporting Goods (have you seen the stories they are telling?), Netflix, and Marriott. Along with agency partners, filmmakers, and media companies, all people redefining the roles of media and marketing. We seized the opportunity to talk to a couple dozen of these brand storytellers, and their agents, and the result was over 13 hours of video content. Brands, agencies, influencers, filmmakers, all sharing their views on the future of branded content and advertising. It’s a whole lot of GREAT stuff that anyone in advertising and media will want to watch. Today, we are publishing the first of five episodes. The duration of each of these “shows” is about 30 minutes. Not exactly “snackable.” These are shows that are intended for marketing teams, agencies, and media partners to watch together and (hopefully) discuss and apply to their own situation and storytelling strategy. As interruptive advertising is increasingly turned off, brands are turning on to creating content with intrinsic value. There is a big story unfolding in the world of media, marketing and advertising. Many feel it is the beginning of a new era that will be enabled by technology but led by creativity. CHALLENGE: To create a high-fashion living media installation in San Francisco introducing Frēda Salvador to those who had yet to hear about the luxury footwear brand, to generate buzz, interest & question, and to re-enforce the "Effortless, Edgy & Timeless" main philosophy behind their brand. STRATEGY: MAMA began the creative process on this activation knowing to be successful, we had to provoke conversations with the art where human form collides with elements of visual art, sculptural design, geometric patterns, choreographed movement and fashion. We needed to make an elegant and mysterious statement, so we chose to create crystal, metal and leather masks to cover the identity of the models and make this activation 100% silent. The silent, model mob traveled in choreographed paths through the cities highest traffic locations and came together to create multiple geometric patterns, enticing the Instagram generation. As the public would approach the models, there was an interesting thing that happened. As they stood poised, cameras in hand, waiting for the mob to break into action...they soon learned the mob would not move, nor answer any of their questions...and then noticed other people watching them trying to capture action that was not there. The public became the performer. MAMA's mob of silent observers asked only one question, "Who Is Frēda Salvador?" and left it to the public to find out for themselves.

First impressions are important, and in PR you need to dress the part. Wear something fashionable, on-trend, chic and not too corporate, unless you're applying for a corporate PR position. But if you're applying for anything in entertainment, fashion and brands, it's important again to dress on-trend. The next thing is being prepared. Come to the interview with writing samples, a clip book of press that you've pitched and placed. Now, I know if this is an entry level position, you may not have these things yet. But the fact that you know about them and that they exist and that you know that that's what you're going to be doing once you gain that job in PR, be prepared. So, have a sample of the way that you write. Give an example of what a prospective client would be for you and the sections and the placements you would like to get for them. If you came in to an interview with me, and let's say you didn't have any experience but you knew that field of PR, and you said, "If this was my client, this would be the pitch that I would pitch for them, and this is the sections in the magazine that I would get them in," and give me an example in that interview I'd be sold. And no one has done it to me yet. Like I said, your Rolodex is everything. So, you're going to be asked in an interview, "Who are your contacts? Who are your media relationships? What celebrity publicists or celebrity managers do you have relationships with?" Come in with three to five strong contacts that you can say, "These people will help me in the position at your company," because again, it's about who you know. Also, be prepared to have a list of magazines, blogs, and newspapers that you read on a daily basis. Being that our job is to get our clients in the news, you need to know the news. So during the interview, I want you to tell your future employer, blogs, magazines and newspapers that you read on a daily basis and that you're up to date on what's current.
