How to Play Gypsy Jazz Solos in the Style of Django Reinhardt

19:56
Click below for tabs & lesson: https://www.jazzguitar.be/django_reinhardt_licks.html In transcribing and playing Django Reinhardt's solos, I noticed that he does repeat the same shapes on the fingerboard and that he does use the same musical ideas again and again. I wondered how he can use the same idea yet always sounds so fresh, vivid and new? I never noticed that he repeats himself in any way, until I actually played his solos. The answer is that Django used his musical ideas in a slightly different way each time. The inner rhythm of his phrasing is always changing. The place in the bar in which he starts each phrase is different every time. He creates melodies that you can always sing because he follows his musical taste and not his fingers. In this lesson I'll teach you a few of Django's improvisational ideas. Play the example phrases, try to understand them and practice until you can use each concept in a different way. That way you'll get Django's ideas and spirit into your own improvisation. You’ll learn something far better than a few licks - ideas with which you can create complete interesting, fresh and new solos yourself. How to play 'Minor Swing' by Django Reinhardt Guitar Solo Lesson w/tabs

31:58
I've always loved this song and could play it about 5 years ago. Someone asked me to make a video and relearning it was pretty tricky. There's a lot of diminished, chromatic and harmonic minor motifs not to mention some whacky accidentals, however it makes for one amazing piece of music. Keep in mind Django played the whole thing with 2 fingers!!! Happy shredding guys! Django Reinhardt: Three-Fingered Lightning

04:18
Uniquely, Django Reinhardt fits several simultaneous archetypes. He is the streetwise kid turned celebrity. He is the miraculous surivor of an accident who went on to overcome his handicap. He is the illiterate who used musical notes as a universal language. He is the whimsical musician who defied every setback. Django was already a legend in his own lifetime, and this film tells of the life and times of a genius to whom death came too early. Yet another, final archetype. But above all it allows us to discover the dazzling talent of one of the greatest jazz guitarists of the twentieth century. Recorded in Paris and Île-de-France, 2010. Written and directed by Christian Cascio. Bonus "Anouman" played by David Reinhardt (guitar solo); "Anouman" played by David Reinhardt (trio formation); "All love" composed by Babik Reinhardt , played by David Reinhardt (guitar solo), Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Gra pelli playing "J'attendrai" in BBC Studios, London

This solo was played by Django Reinhardt and it is full of so many beautiful ideas that it is a school by itself. I was amazed to find this beautiful double enclosure idea within this solo and I had to share it with you here. Even this idea alone, changed my playing and gave me other ideas and I am sure that it will change your playing too.

Duved Dunayevsky: The 1930s Django sound

01:21
https://www.soundslice.com/store/1930s-django-sound/ Close your eyes, listen to Duved play, and you’ll swear it was a 1930s Django Reinhardt recording. He’s one of the most authentic-sounding players in the style today. Now, for the first time, he shares his secrets. In this course for gypsy-jazz guitarists, you’ll learn what makes Django sound like Django. It’s a combination of many things, including: the “juicy” notes to focus on, the phrasing, and the specific guitar techniques such as bends/slides/vibrato. This is more than teaching a bunch of licks — it’s an analysis of the underlying concepts. The course is divided into two parts. First, Duved focuses on the colors, techniques and ideas of 1930s Django — providing many playing examples along the way. Finally, Duved performs eight tunes in the style, improvising using the ideas he discussed in the first half. Everything Duved plays — the lessons and performances — is transcribed in tablature and standard notation, so you can follow along clearly and learn as efficiently and effectively as possible. Slow down the video without changing pitch, and drag your cursor across the notation to loop sections you want to practice. You might be wondering: why is this course explicitly about 1930s Django, as opposed to Django in general? It’s because Django was active from the 1930s to the 1950s, and his style changed over time. This course focuses specifically on his early period, the 1930s, when he played acoustic guitar in the Quintette du Hot Club de France. You’ll get the most out of this course if you have at least basic experience playing gypsy jazz. If you’re intrigued by Django but have never played in this style, you’ll likely still get a lot out of it, as long as you have some basic jazz background (e.g., you know what a ii-V-I is). This course is not for beginner guitarists. Duved has spent 10 years studying the details of Django’s playing, and he’s distilled his learning here for you, at a price that’s even less than a private lesson — and, in several ways, better! We hope you love it.

Tears by Django Reinhardt

09:03
This is Tears, one of my favorite Django songs, and the first one I actually sat down and learned. I play it all the way through once, then go over the chords in detail. I reworked the ending to suit my own taste. I have three different versions of this song, all with different chord variations, so this one isn't necessarily "right" but it works for me.

Minor Swing - Django Reinhardt Solo GYPSY JAZZ

15:44
Sign in and get more free lessons now: http://www.gypsyandjazz.com In this lesson, you will learn how to play Django’s solo over "Minor Swing", note by note and slowly. In his solo, Django demonstrates a few of his well known techniques, like glissando, glissando with chords, tremolo, octave playing, chromatic scale and a few of his melodic ideas like the use of triads, the minor 6 sound, dim7, enclosure with various trill variations and the half tone approach and an octave up lick. I discuss Django’s unique fingering and the influence of the use of only two fingers on his technique. Because I think that this solo is so important, I want to give you its 1st chorus for free. Django Reinhardt - Minor Swing - guitar cover

My cover of this great song written by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. The part from 0:00 to 1:37 is the original solo by Django, everything else is improvised. I'm playing this style of music only for a couple of months, so there are some mistakes. Especially the chromatic runs were new to me. But anyways, enjoy ! The play along is by Stephane Wrembel. 05:26
In this video you are going to learn a basic approach to jazz guitar that you can use for ANY style of music. The chord progression was made famous by the great two-fingered gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. -Am Dm E7 Am Dm Am E7 Ab- ✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧ Is what you've learned from NYS is worth a couple bucks to you? Try to add hammer-ons, string rakes, palm mutes, pull-offs, bends, slides, vibrato, or whammy bar to as many notes as you can! Listen to the pros, I guarantee that's what they're doing, unless they're shredding at a million notes a second. ④ Most importantly: Learn some useful vocabulary! You must either copy some phrases from someone else, or come up with your own phrases to play. Music is a language with MANY dialects - you MUST learn the basics of the language to sound good, AND a the idiosyncrasies of the dialect to sound hip! That, or you're some kind of genius who automatically knows what do do (doubtful) so don't be lazy! Learn some basic blues licks, they will take you far! I learned some Dave Gilmour and Jimi Hendrix licks 20 years ago and I still play 'em all the time! ✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧ ♫ About ♫ My name is Renzo, I make these tracks. Stéphane Wrembel - Bistro Fada ( Midnight In Paris - Gypsy Jazz)

Excerpt from In The Style Of Stéphane Wrembel Check out In The Style Of Stéphane Wrembel lesson series: http://www.dc-musicschool.com/catalogue/ Stéphane performs his composition Bistro Fada from the Woody Allen movie Midnight in Paris New York Observer recently said, "Stephane Wrembel represents the living face of Gypsy jazz." Rolling Stone Magazine has called him “a revelation”. Stephane Wrembel is best known for “Bistro Fada,” the theme song from the 2011 Woody Allen Oscar winning film, Midnight In Paris. Subsequently, Wrembel was hand-selected by award winning composer/producer Hans Zimmer to perform at the 2012 Academy Awards® as part of his “All Star Band.” Later that year, Midnight in Paris won a Grammy Award for “Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media”. Wrembel has contributed music to two other Allen films, a variety of commercials, and even helped Gentleman Shaver win a Clio Award for “Best Original Song Used in a Commercial”. He has toured around the world, and is very active on the musical scene in many countries including USA, Canada, France, Israel and India. Recently, Stephane has performed as a headliner at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York and at the Festival Django Reinhardt in France. Wrembel has also headlined at Lincoln Center, played major festivals, recorded with mandolin legend David Grisman, toured with master violinist Mark O’Connor and shared stages with everyone from Elvis Costello to Patti Smith to The Roots. The Gitane guitar company has even named a model after him. To say that Stephane Wrembel— who learned his craft among the Gypsies at campsites in the French countryside— has already had a remarkable career would be an under-statement. This virtuoso guitarist from France has truly just begun to make his mark as one of the most original guitar voices in contemporary music. Jean "Django" Reinhardt (French pronunciation: [dʒɑ̃ɡo ʁenɑʁt]; 23 January 1910 16 May 1953) was a Gypsy jazz guitarist....... One of the first prominent European jazz musicians, Reinhardt remains one of the most renowned jazz guitarists. With violinist Stéphane Grappelli, he cofounded the Quintette du Hot Club de France, described by critic Thom Jurek as "one of the most original bands in the history of recorded jazz."
