When it comes to health, prevention is better than cure, so it’s important to know and avoid some harmful everyday habits. Can drinking water when you eat actually do you any harm, or is it just a health myth? Some experts say that eating and drinking at the same time prevents you from losing weight, while others say water dilutes our stomach acid. Let’s find out what drinking simple water as you eat can actually do to you. Some people think that drinking water while eating decreases the acidity in the stomach. So if gastric acid gets diluted, it won't be able to digest your food thoroughly enough. The digestive process starts before you even put the fork in your mouth. When we’re just thinking about our future meal, saliva starts getting secreted in the mouth. In fact, water doesn’t just enter the stomach from a glass, it’s also in the food you eat. For example, oranges, along with raspberries and pineapples, are 87% water. Research showed that some foods can, in fact, decrease acidity levels in the stomach, but they go back to normal really quickly. There are lots of advantages to drinking while eating. It helps soften and break down solid food so that your body can absorb the nutrients better. Water also prevents constipation since it softens the stool. It’s been proven that drinking just 2 cups of water raises both male and female metabolic rates by 30%. And when your metabolism is increased, this gives you a much-needed boost in energy. Water helps with the absorption of nutrients. It dissolves minerals and vitamins, along with other nutrients you get from your food. I Drank a Glass of Wine Every Day, See What Happened to Me

Studies have shown that drinking a glass of wine every day is incredibly beneficial for your system: it removes toxins from your body and improves your brain function. We decided to find out whether these statements are true by having one glass of wine a day for a whole month. The experiment started out great: I felt super sophisticated having my evening wine in front of the TV. But on Day 3, the alcohol started messing with my sleep cycle. I started craving water during these little bedtime disruptions. In fact, this crazy nighttime thirst became so frequent that I would keep a glass of water on my night stand. One of the best things that happened during the experiment was a change in how I “partied” with my friends. I would invite people over for a glass of wine, and those who were game, showed up. In the middle of Week 2 of the experiment, my appearance had changed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for the better. A weight gain and dark circle under my eyes and breakouts – it wasn’t something I wanted to get. I checked my blood pressure every day, and I can say with confidence that alcohol didn't change a thing in that respect. My health was perfectly fine. But by the end of the experiment, I started having trouble concentrating, and I felt weak and tired most of the time. For one, drinking at home from time to time definitely has its perks. Getting rid of unnecessary get-togethers is also a big reward from this experiment. It helped me figure out who I want to spend my time with and who I don’t mind seeing less often. Plus, I got so interested in the whole culture of drinking wine and eating cheese. On the downside, I can't agree with scientists on this one. In my opinion, drinking wine on a daily basis does no good for your health, even if it's just one glass. He always enjoyed drinking from 16 y/o and onward. He binge drank but never thought he had a problem. Further, he never saw himself not drinking because it was ingrained in his social behavior and life. In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro talks about how he quit drinking by accident. Alpha used to dip tobacco for 16 years. He was crazy addicted and ashamed. He decided to quit in 2010, and he knew he had to quit alcohol because it was a trigger to nicotine. He went from drinking 30 - 40 drinks a week to 10 drinks a year. He loves a bourbon every once in a while as well as wine at a nice dinner. He hasn't been drunk in a LONG time. Ultimately, he has a better respect for alcohol. The moment he stopped tobacco and alcohol everything has exponentially and astronomically changed. All of the sudden, all of the cloudiness dissipated, and it felt incredible! His life is 1,000xs better in every aspect. Changes for Alpha as a Result of Not Drinking 1. He stopped doing stupid things 2. He felt awesome every day when he woke up 3. His mind was so much clearer, and his senses were heightened 4. He became more creative due to not being clouded by a hang-over and not feeling good 5. His productivity sky-rocketed 6. He started making more money due to more focus & productivity (as well as not spending as much money as drinking is expensive!) 7. He looked better including his skin 8. Staying in shape was so much easier after quitting drinking (combine calories from alcohol with crappy food that typically goes along with drinking) 9. He was proud of himself rather than hating himself for being self-destructive 10. He is happier! All of the benefits to not drinking outweigh that beer / wine / bourbon. He wouldn't trade all the money in the world for all of this clarity and sobriety. It's remarkable.

This is the Russian Roulette drinking game, the liquor rules. What you're going to need is six shot glasses, cards one through six or pieces of paper labeled one through six, that's good enough. A dice and some water and some 151. You're going to fill up one shot glass with 151 all the way to the top. Make it nice and brimy it makes it a little bit more exciting. Then you're going to fill up the rest of the shot glasses with water. Now, there's an alternative to this. You can fill all the rest of the shot glasses up with liquor and do a double shot for the 151, that'll amp the stakes up. Or a little lighter than is you can fill the rest of the glasses up with beer. I prefer water because it's a little bit more of a surprise when you get the 151 vs beer or liquor. Now if you're really having fun, you can kind of switch it all up so nobody knows where the 151 is alright. And then you're going to lay out all the cards. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. You're going to put all the shot glasses, one on each card. You're going to roll the dice, sit a round in a circle and roll the dice. One person starts. They roll, whatever number they get they roll a 2 they shoot it. It's water. That's number. Next person goes, shoots it. Next person goes, shoots it. If they roll the same number that's already been rolled, so if they roll a 2, you just roll again until you get a number that hasn't been rolled. When a person finally gets the 151, just kidding. They shoot it, and they've lost the game. They're therefore eliminated and the rest of the players keep playing until no one's left. Alright? That's how you play Russian Roulette with liquor.

Research has shown that the greater the fluid intake, the lower the incidence of bladder cancer, with more significant results when the fluid is water. One reason is that urinating more frequently prevents the buildup of bladder carcinogens. However what's important is that prevention is always easier than curing. There is no harm in keeping hydrated, it is a documented fact that staying hydrated leads to a healthier life. So even if in the future we find out that keeping hydrated has little effect on the prevention of colon and breast cancer, you haven't lost anything but only gained in other aspects by staying hydrated. 3) It can improve your mood. We all know being tired or hungry can make some of us snappy or moody. The same goes with being dehydrated. But it's very rare people link the two together. If you're always a bit moody for no real reason, it's probably worth a shot to keep yourself hydrated and see if you feel any better. An interesting study showed 30% of people who suffer from regular headaches, managed to relive their headache just from drinking a few cups of water. No pain pills needed. So if you suffer from regular headaches, try drinking water. You may be part of that 30%. 2) It can prevent hangovers With the new year fast approaching, I'm certain quite a few of us will be suffering from a hangover on new years day. Well here's a tip that can prevent that dreaded hangover. You see alcohol really dehydrated your body, but since you're all drunk and happy you don't really notice it. Well, here's the prevention, if you can remember to drink a glass of water for every alcoholic drink you have, you'll wake up feeling much better. You'll still have alcohol in your system when you wake up, especially if you drank a lot, so it's important to keep drinking water throughout the day. Never drink on any empty stomach, sure it may make the buzz of the alcohol more apparent, but its a recipe that will end up with you puking and feeling terrible. 1) It can make you stronger Water helps maintain your muscles. You can work out loads, have big arms but if you're dehydrated you're muscles are not working at 100%. Water is essential for cells to function, and if the balance of fluids in cells are off they don't work properly. Think of it like this. Imagine 2 boxes, but one box is twice the size of the other box. The bigger box is only 50% filled, while the smaller box is 100% filled. Both boxes contain the same amount of stuff despite the difference in size. Now of course this example is very simple, and doesn't include other factors that can waste away muscle. But water really is highly important in keeping not only your muscles strong, but your whole body and immune system.

As clean drinking water becomes more scarce, you maybe wondering…What happens if I drink seawater? Let’s first examine how our bodies absorb water. You may remember the process of Osmosis where water moves from a less concentrated solution to a more concentrated solution, through a semi permeable membrane. The cell’s membrane allows water to pass through, but not the particles dissolved in water, like salt. Normally the saltiness of water inside our cells is the same as the saltiness outside our cells. When you drink water, a concentration difference takes place. Water from the outside your cell moves inside to maintain balance. This is called an isotonic state. When you drink too much seawater, the saltiness outside your cells will increase rapidly and the cells force water molecules out in order to restore balance. So even if you are already dehydrated, drinking sea water will cause your cells to release more water and you will end up peeing out more liquid than you take in. Conversely if you chug a massive amount of pure water, the exact opposite will happen. The saltiness outside your cells will decrease rapidly and water will be forced into your cells. This can cause the cells to swell and burst, which in extreme cases leads to seizures, coma and sometimes death! This would only occur if you were to chug 6 liters or more in an instant though. So what can you do if you are stranded on a deserted island with absolutely NO fresh water around? The simplest way to extract fresh clean water from the ocean is through distillation, which separates the salt from the water. In order to distill water you must heat the sea water so it evaporates, then trap the evaporated water vapor until it cools and condenses back into liquid water. Kinda like the moisture on your bathroom mirror after a hot shower. This condensed water will be free of all salt and 100% safe to drink. GERD, gastroesophageal reflux disease or heartburn could develop due to drinking water/juice or soft drink during, right before or after the meal! there are 2 very important physiology rules you need to know in order to understand why you can not drink with your meal! 1. pylorus-lower valve, opens when pH of 2 is reached in the stomach and duodenum has pH of 7! when you drink water you dilute HCL (hydrochloric acid) of the stomach! 2. both valves: pylorus and LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter) will become "tired" after about 1 hr 30 min! Meaning: they will relax and let food and stomach content out. if you drink more then 2 oz of any liquid with your meal, then you are diluting HCL of the stomach , as a result food will stay in the stomach longer then 1hr 30 min, as a result LES will get open and food and HCL will go up into esophagus! This is your GERD!!! Symptoms of acid reflux include: Heartburn A burning sensation in the throat Bloating Hiccups Narrowing of esophagus Burping Chronic sore throat Postnasal drip and sometimes even tachycardia Stay healthy Dr. V Waks
