CAREERS IN FASHION DESIGNING.Go through the career opportunities of FASHION DESIGNING, Govt jobs and Employment News channel from Freshersworld.com – The No.1 job portal for freshers in India. Visit http://www.freshersworld.com?src=Youtube for detailed Career information,Job Opportunities,Higher Education details of FASHION DESIGNING. Out of all the design jobs available, fashion designing happens to be the most phenomenal and versatile one. Here you have the fine opportunity to learn about clothing, accessories and the designs which can be implemented for styling purposes. Fashion designing is quite a lucrative job and is in heavy demand these days. Whether it is Hollywood or Bollywood, fashion designers are very much needed for preparing bewitching and glamorous outfits for red carpet events, parties and other occasions that involve celebrities. The top countries for studying fashion designing include UK, Japan, United States of America, France and Italy. The fashion industry is very competitive. And in order to secure a good job, it is very important for a student to get enough training. He/she should be a creative person with exemplary artistic skills. Also a course in English, business, maths or sewing can be used as a proper foundation. If you are too ambitious, a simple degree might not suffice. Masters degree and certificate programmes are also available so that you can educate yourself enough to start a prosperous and bright career in fashion designing. There are several careers you can find in this field itself. Some include sketchers, cutters and pattern makers, sewers and fit technicians, head designers, specialty designs and of course the trend researchers. Other career opportunities you can explore in the field of fashion include fashion marketing, journalism, public relations, performing arts, photography, management and merchandising. To become a successful fashion designer, it is very important to get a diploma or degree at first. It might be easy to enrol yourself in a decent university, but it is often difficult to pay the course fees since it isnt inexpensive after all. However, there are a couple of big universities that offer scholarships to students who have talent and are keen enough to show some effort. India has also recognized fashion designing recently. Some of the best institutions that offer this course include National Institute of Fashion Technology (Delhi), Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology (Bangalore), Symbiosis Institute of Design (Pune), and National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad). A few international colleges are also offering certificate and diploma courses on fashion designing. Some of the bright institutions falling under this category are: • University of North Texas (United States of America) • Melbourne School of Fashion (Australia) • University of Westminster (United Kingdom) • Raffles Design Institute (Singapore) • Paris College of Art (France) • Ryerson University School of Fashion (Canada) Once you have graduated from fashion school, prepare a resume with all achievements enlisted in detail. You can always apply to PR firms if you want to work with celebrities or simply try your luck at a fashion production house. Some universities offer job opportunities for students too. So look out for them as well. For more jobs & career information and daily job alerts, subscribe to our channel and support us. 7 Awesome Fashion Jobs You Never Knew Existed

Being a fashion designer is NOT your only job option if you want to work in the industry. In fact, there are a lot of other options out there...that are just as awesome (if not better). ********* Make sure to check out ALL episodes of FASHION INDUSTRY SECRETS REVEALED ********* ► Fashion Portfolio: 5 Deadly Mistakes That Will Cost You the Job ----https://youtu.be/VRWLjV05PVk ► Want to Be a Fashion Designer? And don’t worry, we’re going to skip all the obvious ones you already know like buyer or retail store manager (which I hardly consider working “in fashion”, no offense). These are super cool, super fun, career path fashion jobs where you work in the industry, inside a fashion brand. I’ll also share a couple *really* good reasons these unknown jobs are *better* than being a designer. Get ready for some good stuff (you know, the stuff no one talks about). It’s why I call it FASHION INDUSTRY SECRETS REVEALED. Nice to meet you, I’m Heidi. I teach fashion designers like you the real world skills you *actually* need to learn to succeed in this cutthroat industry. (You know, all the stuff you don’t learn at fashion school.) I’ve worked as a contract designer for over a decade and run SuccessfulFashionDesigner.com. I’ve been able to make a healthy living doing work I love in fashion. But I got started just like you, one step at a time. It began with some embarrassing hand sewn dresses and fashion sketches that would make a 3-year-old’s artwork look like a masterpiece. Then, things changed. I learned how design was done on a large scale. I learned how to get things into production. And I learned all the skills I wish I knew when I was first starting out. Now, I dedicate most of my time teaching you all of that. This content is hard to find anywhere else (because in fashion, people keep secrets), so I decided to create it...and give most of it away for free. Want more than what you find on YouTube? What Does it Take to Be A Fashion Designer?

06:17
Click for more: http://ww2.kqed.org/artschool/ Oakland high school student Zachary Fernandez made it to the finals on the first season of Project Runway Junior, then headed straight back to Oakland School of the Arts to continue his education as a designer. His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016. Hi, my name is Zachary Fernandez and I'm currently a fashion student. So I am starting my Kathmandu 2016 collection. My collection's gonna be debuting at my school fashion show, and so I have little under seven weeks to get this all put together. So our school assignment was to pick a city that we wanted to be inspired by for this collection. I ended with Kathmandu, Nepal, all of the trouble that they went through last year was really inspiring and I was able to take those ideas of imbalance and the destruction of culture and apply that to this new collection. These are the pieces that I ended up designing. They're ever-changing and they kind of just are always in flux. My sketching process involves a lot of images, a lot of mixed medias, I like to do collages, watercolors, acrylic paste, it's a real reflection of what my mind looks like. Here you have the final sketches that I've done. The sketching process for me is really a major step between just ideas and kind of this fantasy world that I've created in my mind to really functional wearable pieces. Fabric sourcing is one of my favorite things to do. It's really like a group activity, like meet a couple of friends, we'll just go, we'll explore the city, we'll get inspiration. So I'm looking for like a very pale blue that's almost like very silverish, and then I'm gonna be looking for a very deep, rust orange color. Okay, so I need to find this, but more grayish blue. The fabric store is one of those places that you go in with one idea and one concept and one thought, and you come out with like 500 more. This is it. - This is it! - This is it. - [Girl] Dude! - Hey! Yes! So I spend the majority of my time draping and it's definitely a part that will make or break a piece. I take a piece of muslin, which is just a really basic blend fabric, and I started sculpting it to the dress form. And then those mock-ups that I make of the dress form are then fitted to the model, and sometimes I try them on a model, I'm like, this is hideous, I don't know why, it just overpowers her or something happens and that leads to even better ideas and even more just, creativeness. When you design while you create, I just think it takes so much longer and you like pressure yourself so much more. So, my design mind is turned off. And it's just about sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. So after I finish draping, I take a part of that mockup and I totally seam rip it and I re-pattern it, and then I cut out of my real fabric. It's always really nerve-wracking 'cause a lot of times the fabric's all that you have, either the budget doesn't allow for you to get more fabric, or there's simply not anymore left. It has this like box-like structure in it. The box is actually lined with horse-hair so that it can kind of take the shape and that's why I'm kind of trying to like manipulate it right now 'cause it just takes on whatever shape you really need it to. The show, oh the show. Six days, and I'm still cutting up fabric like, I don't think that's normal. There's always going to be that last minute hurry up and finish like state of being. I have a picture in my mind about how this is supposed to go, but who knows if it actually go that way. I think that there can be a lot of different ways to read the look. Obviously you look for like the main things like color, silhouette, is this an evening piece, is this a day piece and you just kind of put the garment and choose certain categories and that really helps people read fashion out, by the time the piece is on the runway I'm already thinking about a whole new collection and I'm really thinking something totally different, but it doesn't really hit me that these people, for them it's the first time that they've seen this. I've spent months and months planning and sketching and putting it together. If I see all these different things in these pieces, but no one else does, then it's kind of sad, but then it's also part of what makes fashion art, is because people see it in so many different ways. We are in my home, studio, bedroom combination in Berkeley, California. I have this look from Project Runway Junior, which was the first episode, and this look for my most recent collection. They really mean a lot to me 'cause they show how much progress I've made within the last four, five months.

Please watch: "Why do you want to leave your current job - Medical Representative Interview - MR job Interview" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHT7or7iEYg --~-- In fashion designer interview your outfit should be thoughtful, neat, reflect your personal style and it should tell me that you have an elevated taste level irrespective of what label you are wearing. The creative industries are famously a hotbed of emotion, tight deadlines and strong personalities so the interviewer will want to know how you would react in a high stress situation When in the interview take your lead from the interviewer’s body language as much as what they ask you. Do lots of research on the people you're scheduled to meet with, the company culture, go through their social media and look at photos of the team from the office, events, etc If your style is more vintage, stick with that. If you make your own clothes, choose a piece you made yourself

Fashion Design Salaries

02:35
How much do fashion designers make in New York City? I talk about the average starting salary of a fashion designer in NYC. Interviewers will take into account job location, age/experience level, fashion school, and portfolio when considering whether to hire you. Stay realistic. Remember that your accomplishments normally don't dictate your position or pay level. They dictate whether you beat out the competition for that modest design position. It is competitive out there. To beat out the competition: 1. Work hard on your business relationships. Always have a few people who can give you glowing references. 2. Have a put-together portfolio. Ideally, have your portfolio resemble the work that the company does that is interviewing you. If not, they might ask you to do some sample work. But if you at least have a top-notch portfolio, this will reflect your professionalism, drive, and organization on that all-important first impression. 3. Dress to impress. Come to the interview totally put together. Clothes, shoes, hair, makeup, etc. This means different things for different people. Just make sure you are putting forward YOUR best self. Why Choose Fashion Styling Over Fashion Design Career - Lulu Chen

01:57
In Chapter 5 of 10 in her 2011 Capture Your Flag interview with host Erik Michielsen, fashion stylist Lulu Chen answers "As an Artist, What Informed Your Decision to Choose Fashion Styling Over Fashion Design?" Chen gravitates toward magazines, stories, and editorials and, after many years working different part of the industry, chooses fashion design. She enjoys playing with the different designers' clothing and accessories and being able to use their colors, shapes, and textures as an artist uses a palette. She finds inspiration from designers who continuously produce new work. Lulu Chen is a New York City based fashion stylist. Chen earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree studying design and art history from the University of Michigan. Lulu Chen: When I was younger I loved fashion and I didn’t know what part of fashion I really wanted to pursue, and then, you know, I definitely learned about – I worked in PR; I worked in sales; I worked in advertising; and I just always was drawn to magazines and doing stories and editorials. I guess what I love about styling versus just being a designer is I get to play with all of the different designers’ clothes. I get to play with all of the different designers’ clothing, and, you know, for me to do a whole world of different options. It’s a whole palette of silhouettes, colors, designs, shapes, ideas. There’s so much great design out there and so many great designers that that’s what I do. I get to play with all the different clothes and accessories. Erik Michielsen: What have designers taught you about being a more effective stylist? Lulu Chen: I think to keep looking for inspiration. I think they do an amazing job. They have to come up with – and now there are so many collections each year. There are so many. It’s not just a few. And they’re constantly producing new work, so that’s really inspirational just to keep producing new work, new thoughts, you know, or even I guess expanding upon what’s already there, you know, inspired by vintage things, but ultimately, I think they’re inspiring because they have to produce so many different collections in a year, and it shows you how to be resilient.

Designers turn Dubai into powerhouse of Indian fashion

05:48
(29 Jan 2018) LEADIN: Indian fashion designers are carving out a niche for themselves in Dubai. Two women have created brands which attract the biggest stars from their homeland as well as an international clientele. STORYLINE: Vivid colours, sparkling sequins and delicate beading - the hallmarks of Indian couture fashion. But these gowns are not hanging in a boutique in Delhi - they are made and sold in Dubai. The high-end fashion is the work of Anjali Khushlani, the founder and designer behind the brand Anjali K. When she started her business six years ago she says there were few Indian couture designers in the UAE. She says her customers wanted something that was "a notch higher" than the mass-produced Indian clothing available in Dubai. "They want to find something different, and not to travel to India, to find bridal wear," she says. Khushlani is not the only designer with Indian heritage making a name for herself here. Meher Mirchandani opened her fashion house 15 years ago. She says Dubai lacks the traditional artisan skills of embroidery and hand weaving commonly found in Indian clothing, so her business has taken a different direction. "That talent did not exist in Dubai. So we were always more Western than Indian but we had ethnic influences," she says. In the Anjali K workshop, the men are focused on delicately hand stitching large swathes of cloth. Details like this are no doubt what appeal to Khushlani's clients - she says most of them are Indian. Mirchandani caters for a similar market - half her orders either come from India or from ex-pats now living in the UAE, but that still leaves a sizeable chunk of customers from the rest of the world. Full of painstaking and intricate work, Anjali K pieces do not come cheap. They start at around 1,600 US dollars and the price goes up according to the complexity of the design. But that's no barrier for India's biggest celebrities. Khushlani has dressed Bollywood star Sunny Leone, a massive coup for her label. "I think people in India and all over the world if they would see a celebrity wearing something they want the same piece," she says. "So I think that's such a big advantage for us that in fact when we dressed Sunny Leone, I remember the next day I had 100 emails." Mirchandani's range sells Western style clothing for between 150 and 250 US dollars. She too has a host of famous fans including American burlesque performer Dita Von Teese and the singer Jordin Sparks. The designer believes the high calibre of Dubai's fashion industry is what attracts well-known names. "Stylists for these celebrities have sourced from the Indian designers (in Dubai) because of the work, because of the quality of the work," she says. "The same has happened with us. When the stylist was looking for Shilpa Shetty, she really liked our piece because it was so simple, the finishing was good, and it was on trend." These female fashion entrepreneurs are turning Dubai into a powerhouse of couture Indian design. Fashion Design Career Advice on Freelancing, Gaining Industry Experience and...

33:14
Many of you have loads of Q's about working in fashion...and I know it can be hard to find answers. Maybe you don't know any industry experts to ask. Maybe your coworkers are tight lipped and not willing to share their secrets. Maybe you just don't even know where to go. Which is why I'm excited to be back with another mailbag episode to give you fashion design career advice. Once a month, I answer your Q's on the Successful Fashion Designer Podcast. This month, I'll be giving my best advice on freelancing, how to gain industry experience, and quitting your job. (If you want to submit your Q, email it to me anytime at podcast [at] sewheidi [dot]com for consideration.) Here are the fashion design career advice questions I answer in this mailbag episode! On if it's possible to gain fashion industry experience freelancing...if you don't have any experience, from Afroditi [02:06]: How could someone start as a freelancer without much industry experience? Is it just really hard as you state it or completely impossible? Are there any ways to start doing things that just require specific skills you could gain from studying or practicing? On how to charge your freelance clients for traveling to factories, from Sally [10:42]: I have been asked by one of my freelance accounts to go on factory visit in Asia. I was just curious if you have done this and how you charged the account.  Travel expenses and airfare would be covered but I am thinking about a daily rate as well. I am paid by them hourly. Want to make sure I am thinking of everything. Thoughts? On transitioning from a contemporary brand in NYC to a luxury house in Europe, from Andrea [16:19]: Do you have any advice on how an NYC designer can find work in Europe at a luxury house? I have 6 years of experience in advanced contemporary womenswear and am looking for an exciting opportunity abroad to make the move to Europe. On when to know if it's a good time to quit your job, from Nicole [22:00]: I am the only designer and tech designer for a manufacturing company. I am the first and only one they have hired. The company is experiencing a TON of growing pains and my boss has been less than cordial. The company is also an hour and a half from my house, does not offer any benefits, and seems shady sometimes. There are 5 other design companies waaaay closer to my house and I landed an interview (YAY!) but I am actually nervous to get the job! I am afraid to abandon the work I have started here, I am almost finished with the development cycle I started. I am reaching out to ask if I should feel guilty? how much do I owe this company that hasn't really treated me the best but has given me a great career opportunity even if the job itself has been crazy (not normal fashion job crazy) most days. If and when I find a new job, how do I rip this band-aid off? On general fashion design career advice, from Sam [26:29]: I wondered what advise you could give me. I've always loved design, something about it makes my insides excited and there is nothing else quite like that feeling. I went to school for fashion but didn't finish -i got confused half way through as i started to really love furniture design and textiles and interior design. they all inspire me. At home i feel like i can do it all on my own, i like working with my hands making clothes and accessories but i've never had too much experience outside of that. I keep working on small projects but not finishing, i don't know if i'm afraid to fail or I need to start from the more technical side. This e-mail is a little bit a mess and thats kind of what my life feels like but I would love any feedback you could give. Resources mentioned in this episode: Ultimate Guide to Being a Freelance Fashion Designer Ultimate Guide to Creating Your Fashion Portfolio How to get freelance fashion design experience on UpWork If you enjoyed this episode and have questions you want answered, email them to podcast [at] sewheidi [dot] com for consideration. I'll pick the best ones and include them in the monthly mailbag show.
