I styled 3 outfits inspired by the popular fashions of fifty years ago! As 2017 comes to a close, I figured I would close out our decades through fashion series with a style video of clothes from half a century ago, in 1967. From the mods to the caftans to the hippies, 1967 was a defining year in music, culture, and fashion - and also a fun year to ~wear~ around! Which outfit was your favorite? Looking Back At 1970s Fashion

02:34
It was a decade personified by sartorial flare - from cut to creativity; there are some standout trends that truly defined the 1970s. Some of the grooviest jumpsuits ever made were worn by both men and women in the 70’s, with legends like David Bowie leading the way. Bell bottoms or flares were the ultimate statement piece - made popular by the likes of Abba, Cher, even Michael Jackson. When it came to flares, the frillier, wider, and altogether more outrageous the better. The miniskirts of the swinging sixties were old news in comparison to the transparent clothing movement pioneered in the 70s by the likes of Ossie Clark and YSL. Platforms are the most iconic pieces of footwear of the decade and even the 20th century; this glam rock footwear encouraged gender politics after both men and women chose to wear the height boosting shoes. And whilst attitudes have shifted since then, there’s one unmistakable look that has barely changed since it came screaming into the limelight in the 1970’s… Inspired by the anarchic underworld inhabited by the likes of The New York Dolls, The Ramones and The Sex Pistols, punk exploded onto the scene in the 70s with leather clad mohawked youths using safety pins like no generation before. Perhaps the biggest testament to 1970s fashion is the way it’s continued to inspire us, even decades later. 100 Years of Brows | Allure

04:29
Discover the history of eyebrows over the last 100 years. Thin, bushy, tattooed: Our intrepid eyebrows have been through it all. That's why we’re paying them the ultimate homage by packing 100 years of brows in under five minutes—with the help of makeup artist and eyebrow specialist Maribeth Madron. Of course by now we’ve mastered the art of the perfect brow. Getting here was a long road, with plenty of sparse zones and wiry strays along the way. While power brows are in right now—we're looking at you, Brooke Shields, our patron saint of arches —a full natural brow wasn't always appreciated in the beauty world. In fact, eyebrow trends have changed a lot over the past century, and this compilation of looks throughout the years will show you the startling versatility of the humble facial feature. It all starts with the unforgettable paper-hin brows of the 1920s, courtesy of screen siren Clara Bow, then moves to the tapered arched brows of the '50s, all the way to the Cara Delevingne–esque brows we're all currently obsessed with. However, as the video plays on you’ll see that it’s not just the shape of eyebrows that has changed. With each new trend comes new tools. In the ‘80s, brow gels helped women achieve full, feathered styles, and waxing grew in popularity during the '90s. (Yeesh. Remember that?) Then there are also the more peculiar trends, like the stack of eyebrow rings at the 2014 Rodarte show or the colorful stains that have probably filled your Instagram feed—if not your own arches—as of late. 100 Years of Swimsuits | Condé Nast Traveler

03:25
Condé Nast Traveler covers 100 years of women's beachwear fashion, swimwear, bathing suits, and swimsuits. We've come a long way since full-body frocks and bathing machines. Beachwear fashion has gone from the poofy, knee-length satin bathing frock in the 1910s to the advent of the bikini in the 1940s to the more inventive (and revealing) cuts introduced in the 1970s to the sexy rebirth of the more cutting-edge one-piece suit in the 2000s. You might want to throw on some shades. Many designers and architects from all around the world contributed to the movement in order to escape from the strict rules of modernism. 100 Years of Beauty - Poland

02:46
[POLSKIE TŁUMACZENIE PONIŻEJ] I’ve been waiting for someone to do it, but since no one volunteered, I shot it myself – here’s a video in the style of “100 Years of Beauty In…” – this time, a Polish edition. watching other videos like this, I felt like the Polish one would be different, because of our messy and difficult history. we never really had a chance to be very fashionable until the last three decades – with no access to modern fashion or make up brands, practically no fashion industry of our own, and lack of money to afford the fancy clothes, which were rarely even available. still, even amongst huge political conflicts and changes, women would style their hair, make their own clothes, and put a lot of effort into looking stylish. I left the 2010s „blank”, because it’s a decade that still hasn’t closed, and it’s fresh enough for all of us Polish women to have different experiences and memories surrounding it. also, it’s up to us what it’s going to be remembered for anyway! making this video was incredibly hard for me. not only because I had to transform myself 11 times, and not only because it was very emotional, but because it’s just so difficult to be “objective”, especially when talking about a period of history that is this broad. that’s why I’d like to apologize to anyone that feels the video misrepresents what actually happened, or focuses on things that are not considered historically important. I was doing my best to find one event or historical fact that affected women in each decade (and it so happens that a lot of these revolve around Polish political systems). my choices weren’t based on political sympathies, but rather on what I thought could be widely considered a thing that affected large numbers – but not always all - of women in Poland in the given era. for example, I am aware not everyone was imprisoned in the 1950s, or actively fought the government in the 1970s and the 1980s, and most of the people led quite ordinary lives. it’s also hard to portray a single look for one decade, especially after 1960s, where different people chose different styles and you could be equally fashionable sporting a punk leather jacket as you would be wearing a classy padded jacket and an elegant hat. I hope you understand that! DISCLAIMER: I myself am not Jewish and obviously am far from understanding even a glimpse of what the Jews have been through and the trauma their ancestors are dealing with to this day. I was wearing the band as a character I chose to portray. all looks are based on Polish photos and videos from the eras. ____________ My Instagram: http://bit.ly/2ki6VTq My blog: http://bit.ly/2nnB89S

14 American Beauty Standards By The Decades

08:43
From the 1960s Mods and Hippies, to the matte lips and thick eyebrows of today, here are 14 American Beauty Standards By the Decades. Subscribe for weekly wacky videos and learn interesting facts about the world with awesome top 10 lists and other amazing videos. 7. The 1960s: Mods and Hippies While the start of the 1960s wasn’t so different from the late 1950s, what changed a few years into the decade was the introduction of hairspray as a product. Women’s hair became more voluminous, their eyeliner game was more intricate and heavy, and, thanks to models like Edie Sedgwick and her British counterpart Twiggy, the pixie cut and waif-ish looks were in. Ideal women were skinnier in the 1960s, a trend that continued even when fashion started to veer into a more hippie, long-haired look. 6. The 1970s: Sporty Casual Hippie culture dipped into the beginning of the 1970s, too. Long hair was in--for men and women. But something else that became more common in the 1970s was society adapting to wear less formal clothes. Up until then, most people’s wardrobes still consisted of tailored sutis and dresses with tailored dresses and trousers and button ups still a part of mainstream fashion. But through the 70s, men and women alike wore more sneakers. Denim was more popular than ever as were tracksuits, track shorts, and other athletic wear. 5. The 1980s: Big Hair and Big Makeup Punk rock had been introduced in America during the late 1970s, which means the more DIY, edgy look would go mainstream by the 1980s. Clothes were full of patches and pins, and girls who wanted to look like Madonna had tattered layers upon layers of clothes and arms full of bracelets.Hair was bigger than ever, as hairspray took the feathered look of the 70s to a more frizzy extreme in the 80s, or even mohawks depending on your style. 4. The 1990s Eyebrows hit an all time skinny factor during the 90s. Eyebrows being pencil thin was the popular look of the decade, which carried on into the early 2000s. This era was also when grunge became a more popular fashion as the grunge scene in the Pacific Northwest grew into a movement. The 90s was a decade of anything goes as far as fashion was concerned. Models started look skinnier and skinnier than ever before--think more like like Kate Moss, and Jennifer Aniston had introduced a new haircut that she made popular by showcasing on Friends. Then you had the Spice Girls which threw together a bunch of different fashion trends and made it somewhat uniform. 3. The early 2000s Since the 2000s were one of the most recent past decades, it makes sense that people nowadays shudder to think of the way they dressed nearly 20 years ago. It took the crop tops of the 90s and paired it with super low waist bottoms. In the age before skinny jeans, flared jeans were all the rage. And while it was ideal for women to still be really skinny, they still had to look incredibly fit, too, so that they could show off their lean abs in their midriff shirts. 2. Early 2010s Although society is still very far from accepting all sorts of shapes and sizes as far as women’s bodies are concerned, with the rising popularity in health and fitness, there’s been a decrease of the number of scary-thin images of women that a decade ago would have been considered body goals. What also became popular by the early 2010s as the resurgence of the grunge look that was so popular in the early 90s. Nearly 10 years ago, long hair was more in fashion, as well as layers of different patterns and textures, and blonde hair. 1. Now It’s interesting how fast beauty standards change. It hasn’t even been a full decade yet and trends are already drastically different from when the 2010s first started. The second half of the 2010s made matte lipstick (and matte makeup in general) more popular. With the rise of platforms like Instagram and Youtube, makeup artistry amongst the general public has come to an all time high, with contouring, highlighting, and full eyebrows more desirable. Even lately, matte lipstick is already starting to give way to glossier lip wear. Pastel hair is still popular, but the more edgy alternative falls to grey hair and silver tones instead. Women are encouraged to be more fit, showing off fuller figures with washboard stomachs--perhaps as a way to further deviate from the paper-thin image that’s been so popular the past 20 years.

A Tudor Costume

05:20
A little different for my channel, but I hope it is enjoyable nonetheless! This video shows the layers, and the process of getting into the layers, of Tudor dress. More information linked below! This was my first foray into tudor fashion. Because of this my ensemble definitely isn't the most historically accurate or well assembled but i'm quite proud of it. I learned a ton throughout the process, and definitely gained skills I can apply to similar projects in the future. This costume was made entirely by me, (aside from the shoes, socks, and rings) including the foundation garments. There are over fourteen homemade pieces worn for this project. Thousands of beads, over a hundred eyelets, and more than twenty yards of fabric went into this costume. Not to mention the hours of time! The whole thing took me four months of on and off work. Many more details on the process can be found HERE: https://doxiequeen1.wordpress.com/orange-tudor-ensemble/ If you are interested in seeing more of my work or contacting me, I'll leave links to my various sites below!
