People want to know if burpees are the best exercise for getting the job done. Others want to know if battle ropes or even jump rope are better at burning calories and burning fat. While all of them are at the top of the list for the most calories burned on a minute per minute basis, they still are not the best way to lose five pounds of body fat the fastest. In this video, I show you how you can never outtrain a bad diet. If you refuse to pay attention to the quality of your nutrition and the foods you put in your mouth you are never going to have the low levels of body fat that you desire long term. Sure, anyone can follow a short term diet that allows them to lose fat for a few weeks however if you can’t keep it up then you will never be satisfied with your body fat levels over the course of the year. Mistakenly, people look to exercises as the best way to drop body fat. While you definitely need to train, achieving fat loss is and always will be better accomplished via the right nutrition plan. This goes back to the comment about never being able to outtrain a bad diet. You simply cannot make up enough calorie burn via exercise (even the most intense) to overcome bad food choices. For instance, our very own Jesse is a big sugar fanatic and a worshiper of gummy bears. Just 17 measly gummy bears has 150 calories. Even if Jesse were to do 10 minutes straight of high effort high intensity burpees, he would only burn 120 calories and he would lose that battle with a net calorie gain of 30. Now Jesse, being a hardgainer, is not concerned at the moment with his body fat levels. He was the only one wiling to do the burpees while I talked during the video being the good sport that he is. If you are looking to burn 5 lbs of fat however, you need to be sure that you are paying attention to what really matters. Your nutrition will always be at the top of the priority list for getting that job done. Now, does that mean that conditioning exercises like burpees, jump rope, battle ropes and split squat jumps don’t have a place in your workout program if you need to lose fat? Not at all. First of all it's scientifically proven that men in long-term relationships have testosterone levels that are about fifteen to twenty percent lower than single men. The science classifies men as single, ie without a relationship. Men in short-term relationships and men in relationships over a year. The testosterone level seems to drop off after about a year and that's when you will get fatter if you don't compensate by eating less and getting more exercise. But ironically after being in a relationship with a woman for over a year that's when you're more than likely to go to more family gatherings where there's lots of standing, sitting and eating food. A Saudi Arabian man, who weighs 1344 pounds (610 kilograms/96 stone), has been airlifted out of his house after the King of Saudi Arabia ordered him to get treatment. Six months ago King Abdullah asked for Khalid Mohsin Shaer to be taken to hospital but had to wait until a special bed was made for him in the US. The 20-year-old patient was taken to King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh on Monday after the Saudi King arranged for his special air transportation from the southern city of Jazan. And in a minute, you’ll know how to reverse this formula to lose fat, instead of gaining it. Now, one “weight loss” formula that most people typically agree on, is that you need to either eat less calories or burn more calories to lose fat. Thus, creating a calorie deficit, which will eventually lead to weight loss. However, this isn’t always true and it’s not so “simple”. For example, when you’re sleep deprived or chronically stressed - you’ll get fatter, even if you don’t eat more calories. And women deal with this every month because of their menstrual cycles. You’ll gain and lose weight and it’s not just water weight. Your cravings, mood and metabolism all change. Not only is this insulting, but it’s not true. The REAL Cause Of Weight Gain So what’s the cause weight gain, especially when you aren’t eating more calories?... Well, genetics aside -- it’s your hormones. And if you’ve watched my videos or know anything about me, you’ve heard me say that the way you act, look and feel IS dictated by your genetics. Additionally, your hormones can turn ON or OFF your genetics…. However, there does appear to be a common theme and this is where the Fat Gain Formula comes in. And here it is: (F + S) x ST = Fat Gain High fat (F) along with high sugar/carbs (S) combined with stress (ST), is the recipe for fat gain. A high fat + high sugar combination, has been shown in mammals to completely disrupt the normal metabolic regulation that occurs… more so than either high fat or high sugar diets. Thus, the COMBINATION is much worse and it’s the real problem. It changes hormones & peptides. It increases cravings for more high fat, high sugar foods. Alters brain chemistry in a way that disrupts the natural ability to self-regulate calorie intake. It increases hunger and basically sabotages willpower.. Now, there’s been studies done on this with rats and humans - same outcome every time. So, I won’t bore you with the science jargon. What About Stress? So, I covered the first part of the formula for, Fats (F) + Sugars (S). What about the Stress (ST) part of the formula?... (F + S) x ST = Fat Gain Well, when you’re under stress - physical and/or emotional - your body starts producing various hormones and chemicals, such as Cortisol, catecholamines (cat·e·chol·ameenes) and NPY. Again, I won’t bore you with the science jargon. Just know that when you add stress into the formula, it’s like adding gasoline to fire -- the fat gaining effects are multiplied and greatly intensified. So What’s The Solution? Well, we can’t always control stress. However, you can manage how you DEAL with stress, that’s something I think we call need to work on more. As the Fat + Sugar part… You need to NOT mix these two types of foods in the same meal. Thus, you should eat meals consisting of a combination of: Protein + Fats (little or no carbs/sugars) -- This might be a chicken salad with greens and avocado or olive oil or Proteins + Carbs (little or no fat) -- This might be chicken with white rice or yams and broccoli But do NOT combine “fats + carbs”. Unfortunately all the good tasting foods are “fats + carbs”... So it’s not about calories, but the TYPE of calories and COMBINATION. Solution #2 Now, we can’t always eat like this, especially when going out to restaurants, parties, family events, holidays and so forth. You want to enjoy yourself and the party and that also includes enjoying some of the yummy foods - the “Fats + Sugars” foods. In these situations, go ahead and indulge a little bit and have fun. Then make sure you’re back to your healthy diet the next day. However, if you’re the type of person that eats out often, or is social and still wants to enjoy these type of foods, you CAN take a “fat + sugar” blocking herbs. There's so much misinformation out there on how to build muscle as a natural and even if you were to find the right information there's so much of it that it's easy to get overwhelmed and not take action. I felt that first hand as ive gone through phases where my goal was to strictly be as bulky as possible and other phases where the goal was to get as lean as possible. Over the years of going through dirty bulks, clean bulks, cutting phases, trying different supplements, as well as constantly modifying my workout plan I went through a lot of trial and error. And I want you to avoid making the same mistakes that I did so you can see results as fast as possible by focusing on the things that truly matter when it comes to building muscle while ignoring the rest. So today I want to go over the 5 biggest muscle building mistakes that you're probably making that are preventing you from seeing the gains you deserve. Let's jump right In and start with the biggest workout related mistake that beginners and advanced people make. Always sticking to the same rep range. There is a rep range that is believed to better for building muscle and even though there's a lot of debate about what the best rep range is most people will agree that it falls somewhere between 6 to 12 reps. The best results that I noticed were always within a narrower rep range of 5 or 6 to 8 reps. However by constantly sticking to this same rep range you're going to have a lot of trouble making progress especially after you're no longer a beginner and results start slowing down. This is why you want to spend time with three different rep ranges low moderate and high. Your moderate rep range could be 6 to 8 reps. Your low rep range wlcould be roughly 3 to 4 reps and your high rep range could be 12 to 15 reps. You would spend two to three weeks working on each rep range and you would do this because each rep range has benefits that will transfer over to the other rep ranges helping you get stronger and build muscle faster. The three to four rep range allows you to lift a much heavier weight which will then make the weight that you were using for your moderate and higher rep ranges a lot easier allowing you to lift heavier weights for those rep ranges as well. With a high rep range of 12 15 or even 20 reps you'll be increasing your endurance and your body will adapt to an increased production of lactic acid. This will help you squeeze out extra reps at the moderate rep range and even the low rep range with the very heavyweight. Breaking up your work out into periods of low moderate and high rep ranges is known as periodization and this will allow you to continuously increase the intensity of your workouts in the shortest amount of time possible ultimately leading to some very impressive results. Your body is very good at adapting and periodization is a great way to constantly keep it guessing which is a big plus when it comes to building muscle. The next mistake is undervaluing the importance of food. If you happen to be a hardgainer you have to eat a lot of food to build muscle. if you're not a hardgainer you still have to eat a lot of food to just not as much. Muscle is metabolically active tissue and due to our biology and the way that we've evolved our bodies try to conserve energy whenever they can to ensure that we don't starve. So from an energy conservation standpoint your body doesn't want to build muscle and you're going to have to force it into growth.

But what happens if you've begun your bodybuilding program, but it seems like you're only gaining fat but not muscle? If you want to build muscle without fat (or at least, minimize fat gains while bulking) these are the 4 main points to consider... Mistake #1: Your daily calorie intake is set too high. Yes, you do need a calorie surplus in place in order to optimize your lean bulking phase, but many beginning lifters take it too far and go way overboard on their calorie intake. Your body can only build a limited amount of muscle in any given day, and any calories you take in beyond your maximum muscle building capacity for a given time frame will simply be stored as fat. 200-300 calories above maintenance is a good guideline for an effective lean bulk in order to help you build muscle effectively and keep fat gains minimized. Mistake #2: You aren't tracking your calories accurately. In over 10 years of fitness coaching one thing I've learned for certain is that most people are just not very good at accurately tracking their calories. You might THINK you have a moderate surplus in place, but if you're gaining more fat than muscle, chances are that you're consistently exceeding it without realizing it. Conduct a "dietary audit" and go through your entire weekly nutrition plan piece by piece to figure out precisely how much you're consuming to see where you might be making possible errors. Mistake #3: Your weight training plan is ineffective. If your nutrition plan IS on point but you're still gaining fat but not muscle, take a look at your weekly weight training plan and be honest with yourself. Are you truly training with a high level of intensity? Are you focusing on progressive overload, tracking your workouts and getting stronger over time? Are you being consistent with your training sessions? Are you performing enough total volume? Most guys in the gym just plain don't train hard enough, and if you have a calorie surplus in place but a weak growth stimulus because your workout plan is not being carried out properly, you'll end up with only a small amount of muscle gain with the rest of those calories being stored as fat. Mistake #4: You simply have unrealistic expectations. The final possibility to consider is that you're just expecting things to happen too quickly and nothing is actually wrong with your bulking plan at all. Always remember that muscle growth is a very slow and gradual process for a natural bodybuilder, and it takes a few months of proper training and nutrition to see serious visual changes. If you feel like you're gaining fat but not muscle but you've only been training for a few weeks, you probably just need to slow down a bit and have more patience. People have stubborn fat in all kinds of places but the most common spots are the belly the thighs the bat wings and the love handles. Even though stubborn fat is a little harder to get rid of you're going to be more than prepared to deal with all your stubborn fat after watching this video. First let me just clarify that we can't Target fat burn and no this is not one of the secrets because most people already know this. You can't choose a particular section or area of your body that you want to burn fat for and target it. So even though you might have stubborn belly fat there's no way to do certain exercises that will decrease just your belly fat. Fat loss happens across our whole body so while you're burning fat from your belly you're also give me burning fat from your toes hands your face and from your whole body. So when we're looking for a way to burn fat faster from a particular area we're really looking for a way to burn fat faster across our whole body in general. The first way that we're going to do this is by depleting our gas tank and keeping that gas tank really low. So your body has a gas tank and instead of running off of gas it runs off of glycogen. Most people think that glycogen only comes from carbs but the truth is that protein can also very easily be converted into glucose and stored away for later use. When your gas tank is full of glycogen your body will use the glycogen and spare your fat cells whenever it needs energy. Whether that be energy for going about your regular day or energy for completing your workout either way your body is going to prefer to use glucose. The only way that we're going to get access to the fat cells is after the glycogen stores have already been depleted. So if we can deplete the glycogen stores and keep them depleted we can speed up the fat loss process. So how do we deplete glycogen. Well one very simple way is by not consuming too much glycogen and again protein don't forget can be converted into glycogen so I'm not necessarily advocating a low-carb diet here because low-carb diets are not the only way to burn through your glycogen stores and start burning fat. You can do it a number of different ways but the key is to maintain a negative calorie balance in order to use all the stored glucose. You can even do a pure carb diet where you only have carbohydrates and still burn through all the glycogen just by maintaining a calorie deficit. I know this because I've done it myself before and I have a whole video about it. So first of all you can have to maintain a calorie deficit second of all you should incorporate some heavy weight training. There is no better way to burn glucose then through anaerobic training. Anaerobic training involves exercises that require you to use primarily glycogen rather than oxygen for energy. Almost all weight training as long as the weight is heavy enough will be considered anaerobic training and will help you deplete your glycogen stores faster. I recommended their minimum of 3 days a week of weight training but with 5 days a week you're going to burn through a lot more of that glucose so if your schedule allows try to do weight training more frequently. Remember once that glucose is out of the way that's when you have direct access to your fat stores that's actually why ketogenic diets work so well for fat loss, they actually switch your body's main source of fuel from glycogen over to ketones that come from fat. The second thing that you can do is fasting. This is another excellent way to decrease glucose in your body and empty out the gas tank but that's not the only reason why fasting is so good for fat loss. Insulin is your fat storage hormone. To make it really simple when your insulin levels are high it is virtually impossible to burn fat. When insulin and blood sugar levels are low glucagon is released to draw energy from your cells. So now instead of pudding glucose into your cells this will pull from your cells. Glucagon and insulin are opposites and you really only going to get one or the other. again to burn fat we want to try to keep our insulin levels low and insulin levels dont get much lower then where they'll be at when your fasting. The pont is that fasting is one of the fastest and the best ways to keep your insulin levels really low. Also when you fast usually it's a lot easier to maintain a calorie deficit throughout the day.
