OK, this umbrella rocks! We drove 40 minutes through a deluge of rain to get to my son's third day of a baseball tournament last Sunday. I kept checking the weather hotline every five minutes while my husband drove, complaining about the washout. It was so hard to see the road! I thought there's just NO WAY we'd play. But, sure enough, the game was ON! Wow! That's what living in the Mid-South is like - super unpredictable weather!!! Five minutes from the field, it was clear and the fields looked dry. Unbelievable!
Kids were playing with radar showing more rain coming in from the west...
Mississippi be crazy! They sure take baseball seriously in the South, that's for sure! We live just east of Memphis now, and I thought I knew rain (I'm a Michigan girl) ... but nope. I get flash flood alerts on my phone! The South gets some serious weather (TORNADO weather all around us too! Scary!)
Well, when it comes to baseball tournaments, this prepared Momma doesn't play. I packed two umbrellas in my baseball cart! This compact umbrella ended up in my first aid backpack. My older son was a spectator too and I knew he'd want one, so I gave him our ridiculously long golf umbrella. My husband coaches my younger son's 9 and under team, so he'd have the dugout as his "umbrella" ... but I did NOT want to get wet!
I of course, selected the fanciest umbrella (my new Lotosblume brand) because of the promise of wind-resistance and the HUGE span to keep me and my portable chair dry. I bring a big fold out cart to games and it was loaded up with a bucket of balls, two folding chairs, catcher's gear, baseball bag, my backpack and thankfully ... THIS umbrella!
It started to rain halfway through the game of course and the umps don't call it unless there's lightning. Unless it's deemed SEVERE weather, they play. (Especially on the third day of a tournament!) I was grateful I had this umbrella! It has the same large size as my long golf umbrella we keep in the van, but it's compact enough to carry around without being a space hog. I'm VERY impressed!
1) Elegantly designed handle is ergonomically friendly and easy to hold.
2) It withstood a few nasty wind gusts! This has 8 ribs, not 6, so it's designed not to pop inside out.
3) Pops open quickly and easily!
4) It's not HUGE like my long golf umbrella. It has a large span but not long. I like a compact size since it fits in my backpack, unlike the "normal" golf sized umbrellas.
There's no downside to owning this umbrella. I tested it out "in the field" and it worked awesome!
At the game, I ended up propping my umbrella up against the metal fence and my chair and hovered underneath it while it rained all around me. My baseball cart got soaked, but I stayed dry in my chair. I even took a short video to capture the moment, LOL
