There are seven distinct learning styles to be aware of: (1) interpersonal, (2) intrapersonal, (3) verbal, (4) logical, (5) visual, (6) auditory, and (7) kinesthetic. Math comprehension can vary wildly depending on which category (or categories) your child falls within. Depending on a particular teacher's pedagogy, a child may thrive or experience difficulty in math class. Learn the categories so that you can understand your child and help him/her succeed in math! The belief in learning styles is so widespread, it is considered to be common sense. Few people ever challenge this belief, which has been deeply ingrained in our educational system. Teachers are routinely told that in order to be effective educators, they must identify & cater to individual students' learning styles; it is estimated that around 90% of students believe that they have a specific learning style but research suggests that learning styles don't actually exist! This presentation focuses on debunking this myth via research findings, explaining how/why the belief in learning styles is problematic, and examining the reasons why the belief persists despite the lack of evidence. Dr. Tesia Marshik is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Her research interests in educational psychology include student motivation, self-regulation, and teacher-student relationships. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

He’ll demonstrate how when you meet someone for the first time, you can immediately determine whether they are a Dominant Eagle, Interactive Parrot, Supportive Dove and Conscientious Owl. Even without taking a DISC profile, you will be able to read the subtle cues that reveal an individual’s style through their tone and body language. It is said that a model is a tool for the mind. This video explains the 4MAT Learning styles model. You can guess which of the four 4MAT learning style is your preferred style by answering the two questions shared. Your learning style refers to the part of the learning cycle that you prefer-the learning approach that you use most frequently. All learners engage in each of the four learning actions approaches identified in the 4MAT model. The 4MAT model for designing and delivering training intentionally guides the training designer in developing a learning experience that leads the learner through the four part cycle of learning. While doing this, you engage all learners and ensure learning impact. http://screenr.com/S9g
