The Art of Product Management with Sachin Rekhi (ENG’05 W’05)

01:07:06
Product managers drive the vision, strategy, design, and execution of their product. While one can often quickly comprehend the basic responsibilities of the role, mastering each of these dimensions is truly an art form that one is constantly honing. In this presentation I'll share my lessons learned over the last decade as a product manager in Silicon Valley on the art behind each of these dimensions of product management. Sachin Rekhi is a serial entrepreneur and product leader who has spent the last decade developing innovative products in Silicon Valley. Sachin most recently founded Connected, a professional contact manager that was acquired by LinkedIn in 2011 and re-launched as LinkedIn Contacts. He went on become head of product for LinkedIn Sales Navigator, LinkedIn's flagship offering for sales professionals. Prior to Connected, Sachin founded Anywhere.FM, a web music player that allowed users to upload, play, and discover music online, which was acquired by imeem in 2008. Sachin started his career at Microsoft as a product lead on Visual Studio, Microsoft's developer tools platform. Sachin recently left LinkedIn and has been advising early-stage startups on product strategy, design, and growth.

Luther and the Protestant Reformation: Crash Course World History #218

In which John Green teaches you about the Protestant Reformation. Prior to the Protestant Reformation, pretty much everyone in Europe was a Roman Catholic. Not to get all great man, but Martin Luther changed all that. Martin Luther didn't like the corruption he saw in the church, especially the sale of indulgences, so he left the church and started his own. And it caught on! And it really did kind of change the world. The changes increased literacy and education, and some even say the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of Capitalism in Europe. Product Manager - 10 Essential Skills to Master (In 2018)

06:51
Product Management is a fast-growing and niche area to develop a career in. Naturally, there are some essential skills that can get you to be the very best of the lot. While the need for Product Managers is increasing by the day - in startups, tech companies and other large companies alike - the supply in India is currently only limited to a few thousands and compares poorly to countries such as the US. As per the Google and Accel Partners SAAS Report, there are roughly 36,000 Product Managers in India and the number is expected to increase to about 68,000 Product Managers by 2020. So, the need is apparent. But what does one have to do to get there? How to become a Product Manager? A common misconception is that Product Managers need to only master certain hard skills such as business understanding, tech and data. However, this would only mean the job is half done. To be a successful Product Manager you must have some soft skills too. These include communication, negotiation and leading without authority among many others. But don't worry about backgrounds, as Product Managers have been known to have diverse work and educational experience prior to making the transition into Product Management. Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in this 3rd part of the Careers-In-Shorts Series what these key skills are and how one can ace them to get on the road to being a great Product Manager. Red Bull is an energy drink sold by Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, created in 1987. Red Bull has the highest market share of any energy drink in the world. Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz was inspired by an existing energy drink named Krating Daeng, which was first introduced and sold in Thailand by Chaleo Yoovidhya. He took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of Westerners, and, in partnership with Chaleo, founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987 in Chakkapong, Thailand. In Thai, daeng means red, and krating is the large bovine called "gaur". The Red Bull company slogan was "Red Bull gives you wings", prior to a class action lawsuit related to the benefits of the drink in 2014. Remember that it’s an ________ → SUBSCRIBE for a NEW EPISODE every WEDNESDAY: http://www.DevelopmentThatPays.com/-/subscribe ------------------- 108. The Lean Startup - 5 Keys to a Successful Minimum Viable Product Launch So you’re planning to launch a product A Minimum Viable Product Excellent. A New Course ------- Just over a month ago, our adventure into Lean - that’s “Lean” as in “The Lean Startup” - reached an interesting stage. I launched a product. A Minimum Viable Product. The “Course of Some Kind” crystalised into “Scrum vs Kanban - the Mini-course”. Here are FIVE things that I learned along the way: 1: Launch before you’re ready ----- Are you the kind of person that hears "Done Is Better Than Perfect" or “Shipping beats perfection” and thinks: “Really Are you sure ” If so, you’re in good company. “Hello. My name is Gary. I’m perfectionist.” October was hell for me. My task was take existing material and to repurpose it into a mini-course. That doesn’t sound like a recipe for torment. But the more I worked on the course, the less I liked it. I wanted to rip it up and start again. If this sounds like you, then take a note from Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIn "If You're Not Embarrassed By The First Version Of Your Product, You’ve Launched Too Late" So pick and date. And launch. Before you’re ready. Bonus Tip: Set things up so that the date can’t be moved. I wrote the launch into an episode of Development that Pays. At that point, I was committed! 2: Remember that there are more moving parts than you think. ---- Your focus will the on the product. That’s only natural. But a product won’t launch itself. You’re going to need plumbing. I had my three videos. I also had an email service capable of sending time-delayed emails. Three videos. Three emails. Simples. But it’s probably not a great idea to send people direct to the video: each should be on its own page... And I’m going to need a form - so that people can sign up... And the form is going to need page to “live on”... And…. I think you get the message :) 3: Launch to a limited audience ---- Although it’s important to launch before you’re ready, you don’t have to be damn fool about it; not everyone has to see your “warts and all” version. So launch… but make it a soft launch. Wikipedia defines a soft launch as “a preview release of a product or service to a limited audience prior to the general public”. In the case of the “Scrum vs Kanban the Mini Course”, I “hid” the announcement in a “regular” Development That Pays episode: only people that watched one particular episode all the way to the 4 and half minute mark got the link. 4 - Be ready to make running repairs ----- Launch day rolls around. You push the Big Green Button, and breath a sigh of relief. But don’t relax too much! To paraphrase Mickey Rouke’s character in Body Heat: “You got fifty ways you're gonna * up. If you think of twenty-five of them, then you're a genius... and you ain't no genius.” Well you may be you are a genius. I am not. A genius would not have…. wasn’t expecting to told that one of my videos had TWO audio tracks. - A genius would not have I wasn’t expecting requests for the second lesson on day one. So expect things to go wrong… and be at the ready to make running repairs. 5 - Remember that it’s an experiment ---- It bares repeating: Remember that it’s an Experiment*. This one cuts two ways: It’s a reminder not to over-egg the pudding. This is a Minimum Viable Product, not a Final Perfect Product. It’s also a reminder to measure. Your Minimum Viable Product is part of the Build Measure Learn loop. And if you don’t measure, you won’t learn. Recap ---- In summary: Launch before you’re ready There are more moving parts that you think Launch to a limited audience Be ready to make running repairs Remember that it’s an experiment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ark3b6d5i6A&list=PLngnoZX8cAn_vCE1plk4xhTWfJfvKEWs8

Datsun History 1930s to 1970s

19:19
Datsun is an automobile brand owned by Nissan. Datsun's original production run began in 1931. From 1958 to 1986, only vehicles exported by Nissan were identified as Datsun. In 1986, Nissan phased out the Datsun name but re-launched it in 2013 as the brand for low-cost vehicles manufactured for emerging markets. In 1931, Dat Motorcar Co. chose to name its new small car "Datson", a name which indicated the new car's smaller size when compared to the DAT's larger vehicle already in production. When Nissan took control of DAT in 1934, the name "Datson" was changed to "Datsun", because "son" also means "loss" (損 Son) in Japanese and also to honor the sun depicted in the national flag.[1] Nissan phased out the Datsun brand in March 1986. The Datsun name is most famous for the 510, Fairlady roadsters, and later the Fairlady (240Z) coupes. Datsun entered the American market in 1958, with sales in California.[15] By 1959, the company had dealers across the U.S.[15] and began selling the 310 (known as Bluebird domestically).[15] From 1962 to 1969 the Nissan Patrol utility vehicle was sold in the United States (as a competitor to the Toyota Land Cruiser J40 series), making it the only Nissan-badged product sold in the USA prior to that name's introduction worldwide decades later. From 1960 on, exports and production continued to grow. A new plant was built at Oppama, south of Yokohama; it opened in 1962. The next year, Bluebird sales first topped 200,000, and exports touched 100,000.[15] By 1964, Bluebird was being built at 10,000 cars a month.[15] For 1966, Datsun debuted the 1000, allowing owners of 360 cc (22 cu in) kei cars to move up to something bigger.[15] That same year, Datsun won the East African Safari Rally and merged with Prince Motors, giving the company the Skyline model range, as well as a test track at Murayama.[15] The company introduced the Bluebird 510 in 1967.[15] This was followed in 1968 with the iconic 240Z, which proved affordable sports cars could be built and sold profitably: it was soon the world's #1-selling sports car.[16] It relied on an engine based on the Bluebird and used Bluebird suspension components.[17] It would go on to two outright wins in the East African Rally.[17] Katayama was made Vice President of the Nissan North American subsidiary in 1960, and as long as he was involved in decision making, both as North American Vice President from 1960 to 1965, and then President of Nissan Motor Company U.S.A. from 1965 to 1975, the cars were sold as Datsuns. “What we need to do is improve our car’s efficiency gradually and creep up slowly before others notice. Then, before Detroit realizes it, we will have become an excellent car maker, and the customers will think so too. If we work hard to sell our own cars, we won’t be bothered by whatever the other manufacturers do. If all we do is worry about the other cars in the race, we will definitely lose. S321

How to do a Patent Search? Brief Patent Search Tutorial - #rolfclaessen

10:51
How to do a Patent Search? Brief Patent Search Tutorial - https://www.freischem.eu - Subscribe https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=rolfclaessen #rolfclaessen First of all, you would have to think of the goal of the patent search? What do you want to accomplish? In this video I will focus on two very common types of search: 1) The Prior Art Search 2) The Freedom To Operate Search In the prior art search your goal is typically to find out, whether the invention of an inventor is actually new or whether you can attack a patent of a competitor based on lack of novelty or lack of inventive step. You can keep the search quite narrow – targeted to the exact key concept of the invention or the patent. Let’s use an example. In this example I use a patent database called TotalPatent – many databases have a very similar scope of functionality. It is just the tool that we happen to use. In the video I explain in a detailed screencast, how to do a basic patent search. Let’s look at the other type of search that I wanted to explain - the Freedom-To-Operate (FTO) Search. Assume that you are a manufacturer for hair dryers. You are launching a new product and you want to find out, whether you are potentially infringing any patents of competitors with this new product. In this type of search you do not want to limit your search too much with certain keywords. With the limitation to keywords, you might easily overlook patent of competitors, that are very relevant but use a different language or different wording. You can limit the search to the countries, where your products are sold. Normally, you can limit the search for patents that were filed in the last 21 years, since there is only a one-year priority term and a maximum duration of patent of 20 years. Sometimes, you can limit the search to your most important competitors. Or you can limit the search to certain technical fields by IPC classes. After you have determined the search strategy, you would have to look at each and every found patent and determine the following: - Is the patent or patent application still in force? - Does my new product fall under the independent claims? In this step, I typically consult the original patent registry to make sure the legal status of the patent or patent application. Then, if it is in force, I look that the independent claims and see, whether there is a chance, whether my new product would fall under these claims. If I see that my product would fall under these claims, I can then do a prior art search for this patent and find out, whether I can attack this patent based on lack of novelty or lack of inventive step. You see that such a Freedom-To-Operate (FTO) Search can be very elaborate and therefore very costly. In this video I could barely scratch the surface of what a patent search is all about. If you liked this video or want to know more about certain aspects of patent search, let me know below this video in the comments. Subscribe to my channel. Getting The Most Out Of Your LCMSMS Separations and Method Development

58:33
Presenter: Rick Lake, Director of Business Development, Restek LC-MS/MS is changing the role of chromatography. Historically, when utilizing LC with traditional detectors, like UV, the chromatographer was looking for complete analyte separation, with the ability to optimize mobile phases as needed. Today, when utilizing LC-MS/MS, we are often looking to chromatography to assist the MS in achieving higher sensitivity, getting greater peak capacity and provided selectivity where needed, like isobaric separations. In addition, the number of amenable mobile phases has been reduced, as they must be volatile. In this presentation, we will first discuss the needs of chromatography for LC-MS/MS, beginning with the fundamental concepts and how we can apply them. We will then discuss options for selecting the best column formats for LC-MS/MS as it relates to the needs of MS. Lastly, we will review a quick approach to developing a separation when using LC-MS/MS. We will focus on a small, versatile set of column chemistries that work well with MS and how we can effectively adjust a small set of MS amenable mobile phases to work with these chemistries. In short, we will define a novel approach to simplifying chromatography for LC-MS/MS and how we can best utilize chromatography to make the LC-MS/MS work better. ---------- Rick has been actively working in the field of chromatography for nearly 20 years. Currently, Rick is the Director of Business Development where he manages the coordination of applications and collaborations that serve multiple industries. Previously, he was Product Line Manager, overseeing the development and application of Restek's LC products. Prior to this, Rick served as our Pharmaceutical Market Development Manager and Pharmaceutical Innovations Chemist, developing GC and LC applications and assisting in new product development. Before coming on board in 2005, he worked for 7 years as a Study Director and Principal Investigator for a contract research lab, where he developed and validated GC and LC methods while also managing the Stability Testing Department. Prior to shifting his focus to pharmaceuticals, he spent 4 years performing pesticide residue and volatile/semivolatile analyses. ---------- The Chicago Chromatography Discussion Group (CCDG) is committed to promoting an interest in -and providing a forum for- the exchange of information in all areas of chromatography. CCDG offers a program of luncheon or dinner meetings which cover advances in the many facets of chromatography. Our courses in gas and liquid chromatography provide outstanding basic and advanced training through lectures and hands-on experience. TZM Global Radio Ep #149, James Phillips Lecture Series: Introduction to 1/8, The Zeitgeist Movement

10:41
(ZM Global - from Podcast Ep 149 - From Social Symptoms to Root Causes - Introduction) This 8 presentation series; From social symptom to root cause, came about as a bi-product of ZDAY 2013 in London, in which all but the introductory talk featured exterior organisations only. Each of whom seek to address a particular social or environmental issue closely aligned with the movement’s materials. The reason for this approach was twofold.   Firstly was to work with, and showcase the great work being done by these organisations in their efforts to shift the cultural zeitgeist in a more positive direction. And secondly was to underscore the importance of a long term aim to address the underlying causality binding these symptomatic issues together, by moving to an entirely new socio-economic model designed to solve the root cause of these interconnected issues.   These were points summarized in the introductory talk on that day, which is recommended viewing prior to watching the other instalments in the series:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNSMtFL1Zso   The sources for statements made in this series will be listed in full on the TZM blog at:   http://blog.thezeitgeistmovement.com   Please note that the zeitgeist movement holds no allegiance to, nor agrees with any of the featured organisations points of view featured in this presentation series explicitly. Rather the purpose here is to use these perspectives to help illuminate some of the possible methods to help facilitate and illuminate the need to shift our values and economic system into alignment with our most up to date understandings of the natural world via the methods of science. Thus increasing our overall adaptability and hence evolutionary fitness overall.

Let Us Register Your Trademarks - http://youtu.be/3lANdiFpPKQ Trademarks vs. Trade Names First of all, trademarks serve a very different purpose from trade names. Trade names are used to identify a business or a company (that's why they are also often called "business names" or "company names"). Trade names are the "who" of the business. Customers deal with a business bearing a particular trade name. As stated above, trademarks are used to identify products or services. They are used to identify that, which your business offers to the public. Customers buy products and services bearing the trademark. In very simplistic terms, customers buy trademarks from trade names. Every business registered with the Registrar of Companies or incorporated (provincially or federally) has a trade name. But neither the reservation of a corporate name nor the formation of a corporation create an absolute right to use the business name of the corporation in that jurisdiction. Rights in corporate names are treated like rights in unregistered trademarks, which means that unless you are actually known under that name in a specific geographical area, there is not much you can do to stop others from adopting a similar or even identical name. Even if you register a corporate name that no one else had thought of before, it does not give you the right to stop others from using it, unless you can prove that other person's use of the name creates confusion. Just because you came up with a fancy company name that helps you attract customers for whatever products or services you are offering does not mean that your name, or brand, is a trademark. If you are not using your trade name as a trademark, your don't have trademark protection for your trade name. A trade name can be registered as a trademark, but only if you use it as such, that is, to identify products or services. Let's say, your company is called Awesome Software Inc. and you make software. If you phrase your marketing materials to say that "Awesome Software Inc. offers such great titles as Text, Calculator and Presentations", you are using "Awesome Software" as a trade name, but not as a trademark. If you phrase them to say "We offer Awesome Software™ Text, Awesome Software™ Calculator and Awesome Software™ Presentations", then you are using "Awesome Software" as a trademark, even though it is also your trade name. The classic example is, of course, Microsoft® Windows® or Microsoft® Excel®. We don't buy Microsoft, we buy from Microsoft. But because "Microsoft" is a part of the name of the product we buy (and part of the reason why we buy it), it is also protected as a trademark in its own standing. On the other hand, corporate registries don't really check if the name submitted for registration violates any prior rights. In other words, just because a provincial corporate registry approved your company name for registration does not mean that you don't violate someone else's prior right (in a trade name or a trademark) and that you will not be compelled to change it in the future. You could probably register a company called Microsoft Awesome Software Development Inc. in British Columbia today. But if you started using that name in your business, it wouldn't be long before you get a letter from Microsoft's lawyers demanding that you immediately cease using that name and possibly also pay a hefty amount for infringement of their trademarks. So when should you consider registering your trade name as a trademark? There are two types of customers who may be interested in what you have to offer. The customers from the first category buy your services or products after looking for these specific services or products. You would not gain anything with customers from the first category if you register your company name as a trademark. On the other hand, the customers from the second category buy your services or products after looking for you, as in "I've heard that ABC makes great vacuum cleaners, which model would you recommend?" They are willing to rely on your expertise, because they already made the decision to buy from you. If you have a significant number of customers from this category and your business is more than just you personally, you should definitely consider registering your trade name as a trademark.

Accord Technology - AEA's 2012 New Product Introductions

04:42
The 55th Annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show (held at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland) presented a unique opportunity to connect with manufacturers, distributors, technicians, and business leaders as we shape the future of avionics together. The AEA Convention is the only wholesale avionics show representing nearly 90 percent of the international government-certified avionics shops. The AEA Trade Show is the platform of choice for the introduction of the new avionics products for 2012 and features 75+ hours of Regulatory, Technical, & Business Training, and more than 135 exhibitors to network with! The general aviation avionics community knows the AEA International Trade Show is a must-attend gathering for growing their businesses, training their technicians and meeting with their customers. And to the rest of the aviation world, the AEA Convention is also known for being where "all the really cool stuff happens." A cornerstone of this event is AEA's Annual 'New Product Introduction' session... whereby dozens of the most important names in aircraft electronics show the aviation world "what's new" for all things avionics. ANN is proud to have partnered once again with the AEA to bring you this year's LIVE COVERAGE of the AEA2012 New Product Introductions, as well as other news and programming of special interest to the avionics and aviation communities. Previous year's efforts were watershed events for us... and in that time, we have produced over 75 hours of original programming, nearly 30 of it LIVE, and thereafter produced well over 100 individual programs that have served the needs of our community -- not just during the 2010 and 2011 Convention and Tradeshows -- but every day since then. Prior to the start of this year's event, AEA president Paula Derks noted that, "The AEA is thrilled to be in the nation's capital for our 55th International Convention & Trade Show. Our attendees will have the opportunity to network with their industry peers and keep up-to-date with industry trends by seeing new products with the major suppliers under one roof. In this new world of social media, text messaging, emailing and webinars, one thing remains constant: Our attendees still want to see, touch and talk product face-to-face. In addition, we are pleased to partner with Aero-News Network once again and look forward to the live-streaming coverage of the 2012 AEA New Product Introductions session, which features the unveiling of several new products and services critical to our industry. We received excellent feedback from our members on last year's coverage in Reno, particularly the live interviews with industry leaders and executives on the AEA Exhibit Hall floor, along with the YouTube postings of each company presentation during the New Product Introductions session. The Aero-News Network is an outlet that provides attendees with an opportunity to broadcast their message to the entire aviation community..." ANN looks forward to the 2013 AEA Convention and Trade Show, to be held March 25th-28th in Las Vegas, NV. FMI: www.aero-news.net, www.aea.net, www.aero-tv.net, [email protected], 800-356-PROP (7767)

24 - Bayesian inference in practice - posterior distribution: example Disease prevalence

07:54
This provides an introduction to how a posterior distribution can be derived from a binomial likelihood with a beta conjugate prior for the example of disease prevalence within a population. A Matlab script is provided below which allows the user to recreate the plots seen above. clear; close all; clc; % Prior parameters a = 1; b = 1; % Data N = 10; X = 1; theta = linspace(0,1,100); Y_prior = betapdf(theta,a,b); Y_likelihood = nchoosek(N,X)*(theta.^X).*(1-theta).^(N-X); Y_posterior = betapdf(theta,a+X,b+N-X); h = figure(1); subplot(3,1,1), plot(theta,Y_prior,'LineWidth',3) title('Prior','FontSize',20) set(gca,'FontSize',20) ylabel('pdf') subplot(3,1,2), plot(theta,Y_likelihood,'m','LineWidth',3) set(gca,'FontSize',20) title('Likelihood','FontSize',20) ylabel('likelihood') subplot(3,1,3), plot(theta,Y_posterior,'r','LineWidth',3) title('Posterior','FontSize',20) ylabel('pdf') set(h,'Position',[1000 150 900 900]) set(gca,'FontSize',20) xlabel('Theta') If you are interested in seeing more of the material, arranged into a playlist, please visit: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFDbGp5YzjqXQ4oE4w9GVWdiokWB9gEpm Unfortunately, Ox Educ is no more. Listen to Anik talk about his 5-STEP System to writing powerful words. Get Anik’s 100% FREE Course: http://www.SellBootcamp.com Here’s the 5-Step Formula Anik Singal reveals: 1. Introduction — The purpose is to convince someone to engage and stay with you for your entire presentation. You must draw someone in. The only purpose of the introduction is to get their INTEREST. 2. Story – The purpose to relate to the audience and to create a CONNECTION. Use the story to set-up your product as the “Batman” of the relationship. Put yourself at their level and convince them that if “you” can do it, so can they! 3. Content – The purpose is to give someone VALUE and establish your CREDIBLITY. Today, consumers want value even out of the “pitch.” Focus on giving them AHA moments through the “what” and you’ll have them sold! 4. Transition – The purpose is to start talking to the LOGICAL side of the mind. Address the elephant in the room: “Why you’re about to charge them money?” Keep this step short, make the transition and get ready to close the sale! 5. Pitch – The purpose is to build such high value that you instantly CLOSE the sale. Look, everyone wants a DEAL. If they give you $1, they want to know they’re getting $10 in return. This is the step where you build that logical value. By the end of this process, you’re just collecting money. The best part is that you don’t have to have even been there or spoken to anyone. Your words on a website will do this! Why You Need a Vision Statement

03:01
This episode of SoundNotes is all about Vision Statements. Dave Prior offers his thoughts on why they're so critical to the success of your team and how to go about putting one together. One of the most important things a Product Owner can do to help the Development Team deliver value for the customer is to make sure they have clarity on the context of the problem they are trying to solve. If the Dev Team is just being given User Stories, and there's no understanding of the problem-space in which the story lives, it's going to be much harder for the Dev Team to make the choices that will maximize value for the customer. Also, Vision Statements are one of the best ways a Product Owner can make sure that all the stakeholders are in agreement about what problem is being solved, who it's helping, and why it matters. If the Vision Statement is documented and agreed upon by all the stakeholders, it is going to be a lot easier to keep them in sync with one another. Listen as Dave presents two very popular templates that can be used to create Vision Statements and walks you through how to go about putting them together.
