In 1980s ,Chicago Maxwell Street was still burning. Once you'd be on Maxwell street or Roosevelt Road, you could easily find many Blues bands like Little Pat Rushing,John Henry Davis,L.V. Banks,Robert Dancin' Perkins & more. There was Shorty Gilbert(bassist),too.Yes he's still playing with Eddie Shaw's Wolf Gang. Although the original market place was gone ,The magic & soul of Maxwell street is still living in our memories. Thanx old Maxwell street!

John Mayall "Living The Blues"

00:30
at The Lyric Theatre Oct 14, 2016 7:00 pm The “Godfather of British Blues” will grace the stage this season at The Lyric Theatre with a night of soul-quenching sound. A pioneer of blues music for over 50 years, John Mayall and his original band, the Bluesbreakers, featured some of the greatest musicians of all time, including Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, and Mick Fleetwood to name a few. With hits such as “All Your Love”, “Hideaway”, and “Crocodile Walk”, John Mayall has earned his place as one of the most influential blues musicians of all time. Born in 1933, John Mayall grew up in a town outside of Manchester, England. Inspired by his father’s extensive record collection, Mayall fell in love with the blues. At age 14, the aspiring musician went to Manchester’s Junior School of Art where he continued his musical education, playing the guitar, piano, and harmonica. Taking inspiration from the sounds of Leadbelly, Albert Ammons, and Pete Johnson among others, John Mayall devoted himself fully to the blues. However, it wasn’t until 1962 when Mayall heard that a club was opening up in Ealing, dedicated to blues music, that the musician finally found his calling. Mayall moved from Manchester to London and started the Bluesbreakers. With their fresh sound and raw talent, the Bluesbreakers quickly rose in popularity, and soon John Mayall would be backing John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker, and Sonny Boy Williamson in their first tours through England. In 1966, Mayall teamed up with the ex-Yardbird guitarist Eric Clapton for a ground-breaking album that was named one of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” by Rolling Stone magazine.Although Clapton left to form the band Cream shortly after, John and the Bluesbreakers continued their success, releasing a unique drummer-less live album in 1969 that immediately achieved gold status. In the 1970s, John Mayall moved to California where he continued working with some of the greatest contemporary recording artists. A decade later, moved by nostalgia and fan support, Mayall decided to reform the original Bluesbreakers, joining with John McVie, Mick Taylor, and a new drummer, Colin Allen, for a few tours and a video concert called Blues Alive. After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback, John decided to permanently bring the Bluesbreakers back, and after a long search process, launched the new Bluesbreakers band in 1984, featuring Coco Montoya and Walter Trout. By 1993, Texas guitarist Buddy Whittington had joined, making his recording debut on the album Spinning Coin. In 2005, after nearly 50 years of playing the blues, John Mayall was awarded a prestigious OBE by The Queen’s Honour list. Although Mayall permanently retired the Bluesbreakers band in 2008, the veteran blues musician couldn’t stay away from the stage for long, and in 2009, Mayall put together a new band to record an album with Eagles Records. His latest studio album, Find a Way to Care, is a testament to his enduring legacy in the world of blues. With the recent release of Live in 1967 Volume II and a brand new studio album in the works, John Mayall continues to reign as the Godfather of British Blues. Mac Miller: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

17:10
Aug. 6, 2018 | Bobby Carter -- There was a shift in Mac Miller's boisterous demeanor as he started the third of his three-song Tiny Desk set. It's the first time he's performed tracks from his new album, Swimming, in front of an audience. On "2009," he rubbed his chin with clinched eyes, looking like a young man who's beginning to crack the code. Backed by a piano loop and a string quartet, he reflected on his journey's peaks and valleys thus far. I ain't asking why no more I know I'll take it if it's mine I don't stay inside the lines It ain't 2009 no more Yeah, I know what's behind that door With nearly a decade under his belt at 26 years old, these words ring like an artist twice his age. We were introduced to Mac Miller via 2011's XXL Freshman Class, which featured a special crop of MCs such as Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill and YG, all of whom are now considered in the upper echelon of hip-hop. After his big splash, he's been able to find a groove and consistently release quality rap records, ultimately keeping his name in the conversation with the other young greats. His 2011 album, Blue Slide Park, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the first independently distributed debut album to do so since 1995's Dogg Food by Tha Dogg Pound. These consecutive triumphs amassed plenty of fame, fortune and insurmountable obstacles, causing a stumble here and there. Throughout the years, however, Mac has brushed himself off and put it in the music. For this performance, Mac Miller invited frequent collaborator Thundercat, who graced the Tiny Desk last year and will join Mac on tour this fall. Thundercat put on a dazzling shaker routine and played the deep centerpiece bass line on "What's The Use?" These Swimming iterations don't veer far away from the recorded versions, but here, his lyrics seem easier to interpret under live instrumentation. Set List "Small Worlds" "What's the Use? (Feat. Thundercat)" "2009" Musicians Mac Miller (Vocals), Thundercat (Bass), Justus West (Guitar), Klynik (Keys), Joe Cleveland (Bass), Kendall Lewis (Drums), Robin Fay-Massie (Violin), YaShauna Swan (2nd Violin), Lelia Walker (Viola), Melanie Hsu (Cello) Credits Producers: Bobby Carter, Morgan Noelle Smith; Creative Director: Bob Boilen; Audio Engineer: Josh Rogosin; Videographers: Morgan Noelle Smith, CJ Riculan, Beck Harlan, Khun Minn Ohn; Production Assistants: Catherine Zhang, Téa Mottolese; Photo: Eslah Attar/NPR.

New album 'Brookfield' available at www.mikebrookfield.com Photo: Jeff Lescene "An outstanding guitarist with real virtuoso flair, Brookfield knows when to let it wail like Stevie Ray Vaughan or Rory G and when to hold back like Clapton... Eamon Carr’s lyrics blaze with classy one-liners... a thoroughly modern blues record" RTÉ Guide (Ireland) "The album stays true to the blues, and it rocks like a beast when it needs to, but it is not the same old, same old that everyone else is doing... his mastery is special" Music Republic Magazine (UK) "...absolutely flawless... Mike Brookfield confirms that the hopes that had been placed in him were not in vain!" Zicazic Magazine (France) “Brookfield” is a well planned, seamlessly executed post-modern blues album… a new blues style that cuts a swathe through a sometimes tired old genre.” Get Ready To Rock (UK) "An album of the raw and uninhibited, 'Brookfield' is a set of songs determined to cause trouble and win hearts" Liverpool Sound & Vision (UK) “Explosive new album…raw and visceral…A superb collection of real songs played in a truly authentic style… Highly recommended!” Blues in Britain (UK) “Brookfield” is an excellent album by an outstanding guitarist and singer… 9/10” Blues Magazine (Holland) “Mike gives us an album that is introspective with some deep subject matter but does it in a way that keeps you on your toes throughout..” 8/10” Blues Rock Review (USA) “Mike delivers endlessly creative and imaginative solos... Varied, interesting, commercial and beautifully performed…Mike is a marvellous guitarist..Great stuff.” Fatea Magazine (UK) “Mesmerising…This striking melodic blues rock is an absolute discovery!” Rootstime (Holland)

Memphis Blues Ghost Town Blues Band Live

18:40
720p for Best Quality - From their performance on 10/10/13 that won the 2013 Memphis Blues Society Road to the 30th International Blues Challenge in 2014. This is Memphis and Beale Street premier Blues act that has been catching the attention of the entire world... Ghost Town Blues Band was a Finalist (Top 9) at the 2013 International Blues Challenge representing Rosedale, Mississippi. Living Blues Magazine called Ghost Town Blues Band "21st century blues at it's best" Beale Street's latest success story and INTERNATIONAL BLUES CHALLENGE FINALIST is Ghost Town Blues Band. Their debut release Dust the Dust, (Inside Sounds) has received an impressive amount of airplay throughout the US and Europe. The recording won the European Independent Music Label Award for "Top Sound" in blues. Both Preston McEwen behind the drums and Alex Piazza on the bass guitar are a punishing rhythm section behind Matt Isbell with raunchy guitar licks and chainsaw rhythms. With the addition of horn players Coleman Garrett, Silky Smooth Suavo Jones and Jeremy Powell on keys, the grooves go from funky to funk-nasty as the band gains more notoriety in the international blues scene. Ghost Town Blues Band is a modern blues band with an intimate knowledge of both blues, rock and improvisational jams. At the same time, the band's raw energy and intensity is reminiscent of some of the best blues that rock n' roll has ever offered. The band can turn on a dime from North Mississippi hill country grooves to classic electric urban blues and funk. This Memphis-based, gritty, six-piece has been touring the US since its inception in 2009, gaining a strong following within the blues and Jam Band circuit. "GTBB shows what can happen when the past is distilled through young sensibilities, voices, and instruments. This is 21st century blues at its best." - Living Blues Magazine 2011

FILM DESCRIPTION: Expanding on their Saturday Night Live characters, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd star as Jake and Elwood Blues, two white boys with black soul. Sporting cool shades and look-alike suits, Jake and Elwood are dispatched on a "mission from God" by their former teacher, Sister Mary Stigmata (Kathleen Freeman). Said mission is to raise $5000 to save an orphanage. In the course of their zany adventures, the Blues Brothers run afoul of neo-Nazi Henry Gibson, perform the theme from Rawhide before the most unruly bar crowd in written history, and lay waste to hundreds of cars on the streets and freeways of Chicago. In case you aren't swept up in the infectuous nuttiness of the brothers Blue, you might have fun spotting film's legion of guest stars, including James Brown, Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, John Candy, Carrie Fisher, Steve Lawrence, Twiggy, Paul Reubens (aka Pee-Wee Herman), Frank Oz, and Steven Spielberg.
