Well-Design: How to use empathy to create products people love - Jon Kolko, at USI

39:28
Information and subscription on http://www.usievents.com Most companies consider strong product management to be the “glue” that holds together products. Modern startups have proven that industry disruption is possible not by focusing on adding features or improving sales, but instead by providing deep, meaningful engagement to the people that use the products or services. Design leverages a certain way of thinking that ensures products have emotional appeal and a strong market fit. In this talk, you’ll learn how to apply that process yourself. Why We Love Being Product Designers

06:07
We have been product designers for more than two decades and have won awards for our designs through out the years-- but the ultimate accolade for us would have to be the longevity of our products in the market. Over 80 of the products that we have designed for mass retail have been bought and used over and over again by consumers for the past 20 years and counting. We believe that our success in this regard lies in the genuine joy we find in the process of product design, and most importantly, in how it betters the lives of consumers. Reading positive feedback from online customer reviews, especially when users recommend our products to other consumers, gives us immense satisfaction as designers. Join Product Launch Hazzards http://productlaunchhazzards.com - Explore the retail and ecommerce product launch formula to out-design, out-source, and out-profit your competition. New Consumer product launches are inherently risky, and the odds of success are not in your favor. 7 out of 10 consumer product launches fail; 14 out of 15 products on the home shopping channels fail; less than 2% of inventions ever make any money. Within the Product Launch Hazzards community, Inc. Columnist and product launch expert Tracy Hazzard, industrial designer and product development expert Tom Hazzard, and their team of proven product launch experts share the product launch formula, strategy, and resources that flip the odds and will make your product launch successful. The best products rarely win at retail, but the best product launch strategy does. Join us today! http://productlaunchhazzards.com
Need Finding – design great products with love | Quinn Lai | TEDxHKUST

20:01
Where do good products and great ideas come from? The key is need finding; listen to the people around you and design something that matters to them. Follow Quinn in this 18 minute talk to further understand how to start designing a great product. Quinn Lai is a serial entrepreneur in Hong Kong and the United States. His startups have achieved impacts in different ways from enabling impoverished students to learn more effectively to prolonging (or even saving) the lives of terminally ill patients. He was also a Hewlett Packard (WebOS) product manager and a McKinsey consultant. His current venture, EONIQ (http://www.eoniq.co) aims to revolutionize how watches are designed and bring custom time pieces to everyone. Utilizing his training and experience in design thinking and need finding, he has been involved in the development of multiple MNC’s innovative products/processes, including but not limited to card based multitasking UI for mobile devices, next generation automotive infotainment system and a car design process This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. How To Create A SaaS Product That People Love | Dan Martell

06:49
How can you validate your startup / saas idea and make sure you're building the right product? In this video, I share a three phase process I use that can help you save time and money. I also explain why building a landing page to collect email addresses is NOT the right way to validate. Are you an entrepreneur? Get free weekly video training here: http://www.danmartell.com/newsletter + Join me on FB: http://FB.com/DanMartell + Connect w/ me live: http://periscope.tv/danmartell + Tweet me: http://twitter.com/danmartell + Instagram awesomeness: http://instagram.com/danmartell Last week I had a call with Jamie. Jamie was excited about his startup idea. He even went as far as building a fully functioning product. It had a great marketing site and a decent looking pricing page. Now, when I looked at the pricing I knew something was off. He wasn’t charging enough to build a Growth Engine. The prices were less than $10 dollars per month AT THE HIGH END and it was a business to business SAAS product. There’s no way he’d be able to acquire customers on that little revenue. So I asked about customers - very few - I’m guessing less than 10. Then I asked how long he’d been working on the startup for? 3 years!?! Wow... what had he learned in that time? What progress did he make other than building features? Very little. Here’s why I know Jamie is wrong, and you’re wrong about your startup. Because we ALL are. It’s one of my core beliefs when starting a business. I know I’m wrong about some aspect of the business model. Which part? I don’t know... but that’s the starting point. In this week's video, I want to share with you 3 strategies to help you avoid false positive validation and get customers faster. I go over 3 strategies that will help you generate revenues FASTER! Here they are: 1. Clickable Prototype 2. EAP Strategy 3. MEVO I shared these with Jamie to help him reset his roadmap and use these strategies to fix his product positioning AND business model. Strategy #3 alone would have saved him years of going sideways not making any progress. Now it’s your turn... what assumption about your business did you have that turned out wrong? Leave a comment with your story here! Here’s to learning fast! With gratitude, – Dan Don't forget to share this entrepreneurial advice with your friends, so they can learn too: https://youtu.be/gKDhDrSLp4E ===================== ABOUT DAN MARTELL ===================== “You can only keep what you give away.” That’s the mantra that’s shaped Dan Martell from a struggling 20-something business owner in the Canadian Maritimes (which is waaay out east) to a successful startup founder who’s raised more than $3 million in venture funding and exited not one... not two... but three tech businesses: Clarity.fm, Spheric and Flowtown. You can only keep what you give away. That philosophy has led Dan to invest in 33+ early stage startups such as Udemy, Intercom, Unbounce and Foodspotting. It’s also helped him shape the future of Hootsuite as an advisor to the social media tour de force. An activator, a tech geek, an adrenaline junkie and, yes, a romantic (ask his wife Renee), Dan has recently turned his attention to teaching startups a fundamental, little-discussed lesson that directly impacts their growth: how to scale. You’ll find not only incredible insights in every moment of every talk Dan gives - but also highly actionable takeaways that will propel your business forward. Because Dan gives freely of all that he knows. After all, you can only keep what you give away. Product Designer vs UX Designer | What's The Difference?

06:29
FREE UX Design Portfolio = http://www.laithwallace.com/the-ultimate-ux-portfolio-template/ The Ultimate UX Design Portfolio Template for UX Designers Create your own High-Quality portfolio with this 15-page template, Including Keynote and Powerpoint file + Instructions on how to use it. __________________________________________________________________ Product Designer vs UX Designer | The Top 3 Differences Explained In this video I breakdown the differences between a Product Designer and a UX Designer. Product design is the process of identifying a market opportunity, clearly defining the problem, developing a proper solution for that problem and validating the solution with real users. User experience (UX) design is the process of creating products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. This involves the design of the entire process of acquiring and integrating the product, including aspects of branding, design, usability, and function. The main differences I speak about are 1. The Product Design specialises in the strategic direction of the project. 2. The Product design maintains communication with different departments and relays key information back to the Design team. 3. The Product Designer keeps things on budget for the project. Where the UX Designer focuses on experience for the end user and testing to make iterations to the project also. __________________________________________________________________ Download Your Free 25 Point UX Design Checklist - http://www.laithwallace.com/ux-checklist My Top Resources for UX Designers: http://www.laithwallace.com/resources/ UX Design Course Survey - Please fill this out https://goo.gl/forms/qbFRQURZewfUywGk1 This is my personal vlog from Laith Wallace I’m a UX Designer and Brand Strategist. Yves Béhar : Why Designers Should Be In Love With The Process

27:51
About the presentation Fuseproject founder Yves Béhar, the creator of the Jawbone headset and the $100 laptop, shares the seven principles that define his unique approach to the design process. His vision is one of "holistic making" in which the designer is involved from beginning to end -- from defining the business model to designing the product to manufacturing to marketing. By "being there all the way," Béhar believes that designers can create great products and accelerate the adoption of new ideas. Product design, UI/UX and graphics design are key areas where a unified sketching ideation process with Scriba and a tablet can really come in to its own. Please do not spend any money on these products unless you feel you need them or that they will help you achieve your goals. In this marker review video I’ll go over 6 different marker brands and show you how well each brand blend on marker paper. I will be using 2 markers of a similar shade of each brand. Except for the Promarker since I messed that up :D Summary: Prismacolor: Great marker for a specific type of sketching. Personally, I’m not a huge fan. I don’t like the fat nib since it literally blocks my view of where I’m sketching. Also the ink distribution is weird. Almost like it’s constantly going dry even though the marker itself is new. Touchnew: Great marker with vibrant colors. Dual tips - one broad tip and one fine tip on each marker. Might be TOO wet for some but there is a nice flow to the strokes. Takes a bit of time to dry which also means you’ll have time to blend. Promarker: The marker that started it all for me! These were the first markers I bought in college and they lasted me 10 years. The just went dry for this video! Perfect timing… Great markers for to start with, really no complaints. Touch: I love the Touch markers. I like the black design of the marker itself. Blends really well and feels high quality. Great starter sets available with all the colors you need. Copic Sketch: Always been a fan of the Copic markers. I like the regular sized ones even though in some cases they might feel a bit too fat and rectangular. I prefer the Sketch versions with a more nimble feel to the marker. Big advantage is the refill feature! Thatcolor: Not going to waste anybodies time here - don’t get these markers. The colors don’t match the cap and sometimes you won’t get any color at all. Blending capabilities are not good since they dry extremely quickly and leaves no time to blend. Thank you for watching!

Let your customers "DESIGN YOUR OWN PRODUCT" in wix websites

26:04
Loved this tutorial and want to create a Wix website? Use my affiliate link to share the love & help me create more free tutorials for you. CREATE YOUR OWN WIX WEBSITE: goo.gl/KBFAH8 This tutorial is based on the new ecommerce trend of customers being able to "Design Your Own Product" on your website. Many people assume that this won't be possible in wix and truth be told, there are some snags but i've found a way to make it work & be super user friendly for your customers. As a word of warning, don't try and add all the levels of options to the same product, you'll run into trouble when you want to link variation images to more than 1 option set. It is sometimes dobale though if you only don't have a large amount of option sets.

What Makes a Great Mobile UX & Why I Love Slack's Mobile App UX | Sarah Doody, UX Designer

In this video, I share why I love the UX of the messaging app, Slack. There's one UX detail that makes it so easy to use. Creating a great user experience is about all the little details and how they all contribute to the overall experience. It's not enough to simply add "delight" -- because sometimes, delight seems like an after thought. The products that are most memorable have delightful interactions baked into the entire product. It can’t be all about the aesthetics though that is definitely the minimum entry but you have to take a pragmatic approach to design. At the end of the day, you are in the business of creating a product that is useful and functional. Hopefully, you are making peoples lives easier with what you created. On this episode we are going to sort of reverse design a product. This product in particular is a computer mouse made by Logitech. I have long been a huge fan of Logitech products ever since I bought the Formula Force Wingman Force Feeback Wheel back in 1999. Logitech does a great job of bringing a calm aesthetic to their intro computer mice. When it comes to gaming, the designs get pretty crazy and complex due to the amount of controls that are necessary for the games. However, when it comes to the mouse I am going to be discussing, you’ll see the reasons why I like them so much. Check out the video and share your thoughts and comments about the design. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Love Markers?
