How to install and run an Oracle Database instance in a Docker container? Yes, I Know IT! Ep 18

04:45
UPDATE: The "GUI" part of the video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp58Osb1uFo&feature=youtu.be Despite great opensource alternatives, Oracle Database skills remain in high-demand on the job market. But for many students--and even for experimented database developers--installing Oracle from scratch is a tedious task. And running an Oracle Database instance from a pre-installed virtual machine might require too many resources on your computer. Fortunately, Docker is here. The Oracle license allows you to install and run an Oracle instance for education or testing purposes. And you can find on the official Oracle website, both the installation media and some pre-installed virtual machines images freely available. Both those solutions have drawbacks, especially when you are new to Oracle and don't have access to an overpowerful computer. More recently, Oracle joined the Docker bandwagon by providing Docker image allowing to run an Oracle database instance in a container. I was quite seduced by that move, but unfortunately, the Oracle image was deceptively challenging to use. Hopefully, there are great people in the Docker community. Specifically, Maksym Bilenko provides Docker images for several Oracle Database versions. Thanks to his work, you can now have an Oracle instance up and running just by typing three commands on your terminal. And this is what I explain in this video: As always, I hope you find that useful. And don't forget to up-vote/subscribe/comment if you liked it! https://yesik.it/EP18 --------------------------------------------------------- Music : "Howling" by Gunnar Olsen

In case you miss the SQL functions intro video you can find the link in the description below. First let's see what these functions are. Upper (): This function takes a parameter converts it into uppercase and returns the new string. Initcap (): this function also takes parameter and converts the initial letter of or parameter into uppercase and returns the new string. Lower (): This function takes a parameter converts it into lowercase and returns the new string. Ok let's do some practical For this practical we will be using 2 tables First is dual table Which is a dummy table provided by oracle? And I have created another table again by the name of example. This will be our second table. Let's start with SQL function upper ( ); SELECT upper('hello world') FROM dual; As you can see I have used "hello world" completely in lowercase as parameter to SQL upper function. Execute it. Here, our result has given us a completely new hello world string which is in uppercase. Similarly you can also use SQL upper function to perform other DML Let's try This time we will work on our second table EXAMPLE; insert into example values (upper('manish')); first parentheses for values and second for SQL function upper. Let's check the result. As you can see here inserted value is in upper case. Lets compare it with simple insert query Insert into example values ('manish'); Execute it, i think now it's clear that when we perform simple insert DML the inserted value will be the same you provide. Similarly let's try SQL function initcap(); SELECT initcap('hello world') FROM dual; As you see here in result the initial letters of string hello world are in uppercase. Let's do the insert query insert into example values (initcap('hello world')); initial letters of string also are in uppercase. Let's try SQL function lower(); This time we have to write our hello world in all caps. SELECT lower('HELLO WORLD') FROM dual; Execute String totally in lower case. Similarly you can user SQL function lower in other DML like insert and all.

Create free test data for a database with foreign keys

There are various free data generators to create test or dummy data for a database, but generally speaking, they don't handle foreign keys between tables very well. This video shows how to create random data from a free test data site, manipulate the tables in Excel to maintain foreign keys and other advanced referential integrity logic, and then convert the data to SQL insert statements. The files referred to and other documentation can be obtained from: http://chitu.okoli.org/psyche/it/create-test-data-for-a-database-with-foreign-keys/

Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database

10:18
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. Importing Data from Excel into Oracle Database using SQL Developer 4.1

02:23
One of SQL Developer’s most popular features has undergone a significant upgrade. Users can quickly define and recall delimited or Excel files to be imported to a new or existing Oracle table. Data preview and validation is provided for each column, as well as ‘best guess’ data type and date format mask mapping. This process can now be automated via the SQL Developer command line interface (SDCLI) ‘Import’ command. NOTE: This is a video only. There is no audio. Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates. How to Truncate Table in SQL

00:41
Follow this easy step by step tutorial to learn how to use Truncate Table query in SQL and see how data can be removed from the table. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Truncate Table command allows us to delete all the data in the table without deleting the table itself. This command does not delete the entire table, but it only deletes the records inside the table. In this tutorial we will learn to truncate a table in SQL. Step 1- Viewing Table Data First of all let us view the records from any table, let it be dummy in our case. For that write: Select * from dummy and execute it by pressing F5. Step 2- Executing Command Now write the Truncate Table command along with the required table name. The query would be: Truncate table dummy and execute it . Step 3- Data Removed Now view the records of dummy table again, you will observe that the table would be empty with no records present. That is what the Truncate Table query does. And that is how we can truncate a table in SQL.

Hi Friends, Now We will discuss about MSSQL Connectivity and fetch data from SQL Table --------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Check the table available in MSSQL or not and create one sample table with two columns Create table sample(no int, name text); HostName: BALAJI-PC\SQLEXPRESS I am going to create above table completed successfully. let me check query the table select * from sample; Now we will create a bot to fetch data from table. For this we will insert dummy data 1. We will use Action stage and 'Data - SQL Server' VBO to configure the database details Using the set connection we need to configure the SQL Server details Server - BALAJI-PC\SQLEXPRESS Database - Robotics-DB For my database no username and no password I Created againt the table using IDE. updating the query with this SELECT * FROM [Robotics-DB].[dbo].[sample] So, those are empty 2. we will use Action Stage to query the data We have a Action called 'Get Collection' SQL - select * from sample Now we got the data. Let's do the insertion of records For this we need to use Execute Action in Data - SQL Server' VBO insert into [Robotics-DB].[dbo].[sample] values(4,'Manager') Now we got the data with inserted record into collection Thank you for watching video and output will be the collection and success & message 3. Let's link it and execute we got error saying that invalid object name 'sample' That means unable to identify the table name Let me solve it

How to Detect Soft Corruption in Oracle 12c Database

18:19
Detection of Soft Corruption in 12c: To use the scripts below replace : , ",# and $ by proper bracket Lets Create a tablespace and small table. SQL: create tablespace DEMO1 datafile '/u02/tstdb1/TSTDB1/datafile/demo01.dbf' size 50M SQL: create table objects tablespace DEMO1 as select * from dba_objects; SQL: alter table objects add constraint pk_obj primary key #object_id$; SQL: create index idx_obj_name on objects#object_name$ tablespace demo1; Backup tablespace. RMAN: backup tablespace DEMO1; We need to put the DB in archivelog first Rebuild index with NOLOGGING option to simulate soft corruption later. RMAN: alter index idx_obj_name rebuild nologging; Confirm that we have datafiles that require backup because they have been affected with NOLOGGING operation. RMAN: report unrecoverable; Simulate corruption. RMAN: alter database datafile 5 offline; RMAN: restore datafile 5; RMAN: recover datafile 5; RMAN: alter database datafile 5 online; Query table with corrupted index and notice error. SQL: select count#*$ from objects where object_name like 'A%'; Let’s perform validation of datafile to check block corruption. RMAN: backup validate check logical datafile 5; Notice that we have 457 blocks marked corrupt but v$database_block_corruption view is empty. SQL: select count#*$ from v$database_block_corruption; Let’s query v$nonlogged_block view. set lines 200 set pages 999 select file#, block#, blocks,object#,reason from v$nonlogged_block; Will RMAN detect that we have corrupted blocks? RMAN: backup datafile 5; RMAN backup won’t fail due to NOLOGGING corrupt blocks and our backup will contain soft corrupted blocks. Let’s Identify corrupt segments using v$nonlogged_block view. set lines 2000 set pages 9999 col owner for a20 col partition_name for a10 col segment_name for a20 SELECT e.owner, e.segment_type, e.segment_name, e.partition_name, c.file# , greatest#e.block_id, c.block#$ corr_start_block# , least#e.block_id+e.blocks-1, c.block#+c.blocks-1$ corr_end_block# , least#e.block_id+e.blocks-1, c.block#+c.blocks-1$ - greatest#e.block_id, c.block#$ + 1 blocks_corrupted FROM dba_extents e, V$NONLOGGED_BLOCK c WHERE e.file_id = c.file# AND e.block_id "= c.block# + c.blocks - 1 AND e.block_id + e.blocks - 1 := c.block# UNION SELECT s.owner, s.segment_type, s.segment_name, s.partition_name, c.file# , header_block corr_start_block# , header_block corr_end_block# , 1 blocks_corrupted FROM dba_segments s, V$NONLOGGED_BLOCK c WHERE s.header_file = c.file# AND s.header_block between c.block# and c.block# + c.blocks - 1 UNION SELECT null owner, null segment_type, null segment_name, null partition_name, c.file# , greatest#f.block_id, c.block#$ corr_start_block# , least#f.block_id+f.blocks-1, c.block#+c.blocks-1$ corr_end_block# , least#f.block_id+f.blocks-1, c.block#+c.blocks-1$ - greatest#f.block_id, c.block#$ + 1 blocks_corrupted FROM dba_free_space f, V$NONLOGGED_BLOCK c WHERE f.file_id = c.file# AND f.block_id "= c.block# + c.blocks - 1 AND f.block_id + f.blocks - 1 := c.block# order by file#, corr_start_block# / This is the best outcome to get if you notice corruption errors. All errors are related to index corruption so we could fix this problem rebuilding index. alter index idx_obj_name rebuild; Simply issuing "alter index rebuild" command won't work. We should mark index unusable to drop segment before rebuilding it or just rebuild index with online option. It is better choice to mark index unusable because you don't need additional space then, but I will simply rebuild index with online option and see what will happen. SQL: alter index idx_obj_name rebuild online; Index altered. SQL: select count#*$ from objects where object_name like 'A%'; No errors... but, let's validate datafile for corruption. RMAN: backup validate check logical datafile 5; Notice "Marked Corrupt" column. Hm... 457 like before. Don't worry, this is not new corruption. These are FREE blocks which will be reused and Oracle will automatically re-format those blocks. Query the v$nonlogged_block view again as given above. We could force re-formatting creating dummy table and inserting data to dummy table. Check Doc ID 336133.1. create table s # n number, c varchar2#4000$ $ nologging tablespace DEMO1; SQL: BEGIN FOR i IN 1..1000000 LOOP INSERT /*+ APPEND */ INTO sys.s select i, lpad#'REFORMAT',3092, 'R'$ from dual; commit ; END LOOP; END; / SQL: drop table sys.s purge; Notice that we don't have corrupted blocks any more. RMAN: backup validate check logical datafile 5;

Introduction to SQL - Tutorial for beginners to databases. PART 1

10:17
A fun, energetic and clear introduction to SQL and databases for just about anybody to understand! Take the FULL course: https://goo.gl/uY4wDo Finally understand SQL without being bored to tears or getting frustrated. Also grab my nice DISCOUNT on my SQL for FinTech job seekers course: https://goo.gl/jZHfVe This video answers: What is SQL? How is SQL used? What is a database? Why use a database instead of a spreadsheet? These videos have an intrinsic cost of about $1000 to make so if you enjoy them, please consider donating so that I can make more videos on a more regular basis! It's not just standing up and talking. It could be weeks of planning/research, then multiple takes, then hours of editing then responding to comments. Don't forget the thousands spent on the equipment used. I've spent a lot of money on the equipment I use to shoot/edit these and when they fail (which they are), I have to spend even more money to replace then. Then there is the fact I use up all my free time to do videos now. I have put aside friends and family to focus on this because I feel this is my calling to help others. My job is also very demanding and always comes first, so that leaves little time for videos. Thanks! https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... Part 2: https://goo.gl/ppQz9r NOTE: SQL combines the roles of data definition, data manipulation, and query in a single language. It was one of the first commercial languages for the relational model, although it departs in some respects from the relational model as described by Codd (for example, the rows and columns of a table can be ordered).
