Oracle's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Uses Smartcard-Secure Sessions

02:34
Oracle is yet another player joining the fray of the many providers offering virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions. At VMworld 2012, I spoke with Stuart Scurti, Enterprise Account Manager for Oracle's VDI Infrastructure. I asked Scurti to tell me what makes Oracle's VDI better than all the competitors also on the VMworld show floor. Here are the features and differentiators, said Scurti: • Certified on all Oracle applications. • They're not just a Windows OS shop. Can connect to any operating system you want to. • Has an integrated smart card. By pulling the smart card and bringing it to another machine, you can session in and out from one desktop to any other and be at the same point with your applications or anything else you want. • Lower your total cost of ownership because you're not refreshing a desktop every 3 years but rather 7+ years. • Lower power costs. Typical desktop runs at 150 watts, Oracle's virtual desktop runs at about 4 watts. Dice.com celebrates everything that makes a career in technology great. Inside the CERT Oracle Secure Coding Standard for Java

01:02:41
In this session, the authors of The CERT Oracle Secure Coding Standard for Java describe how this standard can be used to secure your Java projects. They examine the dos and don’ts of several secure coding rules, focusing on rule violations that have resulted in real-world vulnerabilities in fielded systems. They also discuss how conformance to the coding standard can be enforced by static analysis and the Source Code Analysis Lab (SCALe). Authors: David Svoboda David Svoboda is a Software Security Engineer at CERT/SEI. He co-authored _Java Coding Guidelines: 75 Recommendations for Reliable and Secure Programs_ and _The CERT Oracle Secure Coding Standard for Java_. He also maintains the CERT Secure Coding standard websites for Java, as well as C, C++, and Perl, and he has taught Secure Coding in C and C++ all over the world, to various groups in the military, government, and banking industries. Saferoom: Secure Desktop for PortSys TAC and Microsoft UAG

04:24
SafeRoom works by detecting various admin-defined user types and delivering the secure desktop environment within seconds, all at the point of authentication. This complete packaged and secured work environment overlays a new virtual desktop that administrators have complete control over, disabling the desktop normally used by that computer while connected to your network. SafeRoom is not a heavy virtual machine in the traditional sense, but a true cloned sterile work environment that remains active only while connected to your network or application. While connected, users are limited to only run executables defined as acceptable by the administrator and nothing more.

Debian 8.8 Cinnamon Desktop Installation + Guest Additions on Oracle VirtualBox [2017]

07:45
This video tutorial shows Debian 8.8 Cinnamon Desktop installation on Oracle VirtualBox step by step. This tutorial is also helpful to install Debian 8.8 on physical computer or laptop hardware. We also install Guest Additions on Debian 8.8 Cinnamon for better performance and usability features: Automatic Resizing Guest Display, Shared Folder, Seamless Mode and Shared Clipboard, Improved Performance and Drag and Drop. Steps: 1- Create Virtual Machine on Oracle VirtualBox 2- Start Debian 8.8 Cinnamon Desktop Installation 3- Install Guest Additions 4- Test Guest Additions Features: Automatic Resizing Guest Display and Shared Clipboard Debian 8.8 New Features and Improvements Debian 8.8 mainly adds corrections for security problems to the stable release, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories were already published separately and are referenced where available. Those who frequently install updates from security.debian.org won't have to update many packages and most updates from security.debian.org are included in this update. Debian 8.8 is not a new version of Debian. It’s just a Debian 8 image with the latest updates of some of the packages. So, if you’re running a Debian 8 installation with all the latest updates installed, you don’t need to do anything. Debian Website: https://www.debian.org/ What is Cinnamon Desktop Environment? Cinnamon is a desktop environment that is based on the GTK+ 3 toolkit. It was released in 2011. Cinnamon originally started as a fork of GNOME Shell, thus initially as a mere graphical shell of the GNOME software, but became its own desktop environment in Cinnamon 2.0. Cinnamon was developed by the Linux Mint distribution, with wider adoption spreading to other distributions over time. Hope you found it informative and useful. USENIX Security '18 - Return Of Bleichenbacher’s Oracle Threat (ROBOT)

24:13
Hanno Böck, unaffiliated Abstract: In 1998 Bleichenbacher presented an adaptive chosen-ciphertext attack on the RSA PKCS~#1~v1.5 padding scheme. The attack exploits the availability of a server which responds with different messages based on the ciphertext validity. This server is used as an oracle and allows the attacker to decrypt RSA ciphertexts. Given the importance of this attack, countermeasures were defined in TLS and other cryptographic standards using RSA PKCS~#1~v1.5. We perform the first large-scale evaluation of Bleichenbacher's RSA vulnerability. We show that this vulnerability is still very prevalent in the Internet and affected almost a third of the top 100 domains in the Alexa Top 1 Million list, including Facebook and Paypal. We identified vulnerable products from nine different vendors and open source projects, among them F5, Citrix, Radware, Palo Alto Networks, IBM, and Cisco. These implementations provide novel side-channels for constructing Bleichenbacher oracles: TCP resets, TCP timeouts, or duplicated alert messages. In order to prove the importance of this attack, we have demonstrated practical exploitation by signing a message with the private key of \texttt{facebook.com}'s HTTPS certificate. Finally, we discuss countermeasures against Bleichenbacher attacks in TLS and recommend to deprecate the RSA encryption key exchange in TLS and the RSA PKCS~#1~v1.5 standard.
