Java 11 is a game changer! Not so much for technical reasons (unless you come from Java 8), but because of the new release cadence (six months), licensing (Oracle JDK vs OpenJDK), and long-term support (not free by Oracle). I discuss all of these in detail to make sure you know what to expect. Top Java Frameworks vs. Oracle ADF - Webinar with Oracle PM Shay Shmeltzer

57:06
In the latest Fusion Middleware release, Oracle also released Version 12.2.1.3 of the Application Development Framework (ADF). ADF is one of the most productive frameworks to create Java EE applications, along with other options such as Spring, PrimeFaces, and Vaadin. In our free webinar, you will learn the differences and effectiveness of each framework. In the webinar you will learn: R What are the advantages and disadvantages of the top frameworks for Java Enterprise applications? R What distinguishes Oracle ADF from other alternatives? R Why is ADF so easy for beginners in the Java environment? With the announcement of Oracle handing over the JEE platform to the Eclipse Foundation, we can expect some changes for the framework. In this race for efficiency, future security, ease of use, and flexibility, Oracle ADF is a good alternative. Java EE standard is retained with the technically identical, free version of ADF Essentials. Other frameworks such Spring, PrimeFaces and Vaadin also have certain advantages. So what sets ADF apart? In this webinar, we’ll answer these questions: Is ADF suitable as an integration platform? How complex is a change to cloud? Can ADF support JavaScript-based applications? How should you assess security? What are the advantages of a full framework? PITSS Germany: https://pitss.com/de/reports-orientation-day/ PITSS US: https://pitss.com/

Running Oracle Forms 11g Applications Using Java Web Start Launcher, No Any Web Browser Required

17:31
How to run oracle form in any browser? How to run Oracle Forms Applications without Web Browser? The Java Plugin has been used by Oracle Forms for many years. Browser technology has since evolved beyond the need or desire to continue supporting plugins of any kind. With modern browser vendors working to restrict and reduce plugin support in their products so it's getting increasingly difficult to run Java applets through browsers, which is a problem for Oracle Forms applications. Developers of applications that rely on the Java browser plugin need to consider alternative options such as migrating from Java Applets (which rely on a browser plugin) to the plugin-free Java Web Start technology. This video tutorial describes the steps to deploy Forms applications using Java(TM) Web Start Launcher. You'll learn how to run Oracle Forms Applications with Java Web Start Launcher from the Desktop or the Java Cache Viewer by creating JNLP File. Even though Java plug-in does not work in web browsers after installing Java, Firefox 52 ESR 32-bit release still supports NAPAPI plug-ins. Alternatively we shall download and install Firefox 52 ESR 32-bit release to run Oracle Forms Applications. You'll also learn how to manage and configure Java Security Exception Site List and set the security level within the Java Control Panel to get rid of the following errors or Java exceptions. (You can add the URL of the application to Exception Site List) oracle.forms.engine.Main ExitException: Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system. The following resource is signed with a weak signature algorithm MD5withRSA and is treated as unsigned: http:XXXX:7001/forms/java/frmall.jar This application will run with unrestricted access which may put your computer and personal information at risk. O'Reilly OSCON Java 2011: Steven G. Harris, "Open Source, Java, and Oracle -- Cracking the Code"

18:33
Mystified as to how Oracle's decisions on open source fit together? Stop looking at your crystal ball and get insight into how Oracle views open source and the role Java plays in the developer community. Find out where Oracle sees Java heading and how you can navigate the best path as an open source Java developer and decision-maker to participate in moving Java forward. Steven G. Harris Oracle Steve Harris joined Oracle in 1997 to manage the development team that delivered native Java support in the Oracle database. Since that time, his team has grown to include overall Java server development at Oracle, including WebLogic, GlassFish, and the Java Enterprise Edition platform. Steve has been a key stakeholder and leader in open source and open standards work at Oracle, and in developing and executing on Oracle's strategy in these areas. The acquisition of Sun has brought new opportunities and responsibilities to Oracle, particularly in the Java and open source worlds. Steve and the Java server team remain at the center of the many changes happening at Oracle as a result.

Oracle Corporation and about Java

01:26
Oracle Corporation is an American multinational computer technology corporation headquartered in Redwood Shores, California. The company specializes primarily in developing and marketing database software and technology, cloud engineered systems, and enterprise software products — particularly its own brands of database management systems. In 2015, Oracle was the second-largest software maker by revenue, after Microsoft Java is a general-purpose computer-programming language that is concurrent, class-based, object-oriented, and specifically designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. It is intended to let application developers "write once, run anywhere" (WORA), meaning that compiled Java code can run on all platforms that support Java without the need for recompilation. Java applications are typically compiled to bytecode that can run on any Java virtual machine (JVM) regardless of computer architecture. As of 2016, Java is one of the most popular programming languages in use, particularly for client-server web applications, with a reported 9 million developers. Java was originally developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems (which has since been acquired by Oracle Corporation) and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems' Java platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++, but it has fewer low-level facilities than either of them. The Future of Java / OpenJDK and how it impacts You!

01:19:12
VirtualJUG is an online Java User Group: http://virtualjug.com/ Our meetup community can be found on http://meetup.com/virtualjug. We post all our upcoming vJUG sessions, which you’ll be notified of through the meetup mailing list. Join us on slack for the live discussion: https://goo.gl/ELDDcp Abstract: There has been a lot of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) in the Java Ecosystem due to: 1. Some major changes in Java itself, which has caused some upgrade friction. 2. The new 6-month release cadence for Java and what an LTS release actually means. 3. The non-commercial and commercial support models put in place by Oracle, Azul, IBM, RedHat, AdoptOpenJDK and others to provide support for their Java/OpenJDK produced binaries. These three changes have all happened within a short time frame creating a perfect storm of uncertainty as day to day developers who don't follow the industry news closely get caught out! This vJUG session is going to set the record straight and tell you which version of Java to use from which Vendor and for what price ($free or $commercial). Speakers: Simon Ritter & Martijn Verburg Simon Ritter is the Deputy CTO of Azul Systems. Simon has been in the IT business since 1984 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Brunel University in the U.K. Simon joined Sun Microsystems in 1996 and started working with Java technology; he has spent time working both in Java development and consultancy. Having moved to Oracle as part of the Sun acquisition. Martijn Verburg (aka "The Diabolical Developer") is currently the CEO of jClarity and leads various Java ecosystem initiatives including AdoptOpenJDK. At AdoptOpenJDK, Martijn is one of the team members that's setting out the strategic vision of the AdoptOpenJDK build farm and guiding the nearly 300 volunteers towards the build farm's common goals.

Oracle JRockit Mission Control Is Dead: Long Live Java Mission Control!

01:11:19
Oracle Java Mission Control is the production time profiling and diagnostics tools suite originally created for the Oracle JRockit JVM. The convergence of Oracle's HotSpot JVM and the Oracle JRockit JVM resulted in Oracle Java Mission Control's support for HotSpot (only) from Release 5.0 and onward. This session is an introduction to what Oracle Java Mission Control is and how it can be used to profile Java applications in production systems with almost no overhead. The session also discusses how the HotSpot version of Oracle Java Mission Control differs from the JRockit version and shows some nice new experimental plug-ins available in the 5.0 release of Oracle Java Mission Control. JDK 9 Language, Tooling, and Library Features

44:38
Joe Darcy, JDK Engineer, Oracle Modularity support from Project Jigsaw is the largest change coming in Java SE 9, but many other improvements are coming to the Java programming language, related tooling, and libraries in JDK 9. On the language front, some polish is added to the Project Coin features and the number of uninformative warnings has been reduced. The javac tool can now accurately cross-compile to older platform versions and has improved attribution engineering to better support type inference. Javadoc is getting a search box, a new modernized doclet API, and HTML5 support. The libraries offer better process control, improved collections, and more-compact strings.
