Step 1: Capture their attention Use no more than three double-spaced pages for the Executive Summary. Detail the company profile, product, management team, market trends, key projections, and financing you need. Step 2: Identify the mission Identify the mission and give your company’s history, the proposed legal form the new entity will take, and a sales strategy. Provide competitor research and state your advantage over them. Step 3: Analyze the market Analyze the market further, targeting competitors to reassure the reader that your venture anticipates every stumbling block. Tip Stick to who, what, why, where, when, and how, like a good reporter, to keep the information succinct and pertinent. Step 4: Describe responsibilities Describe the management team’s responsibilities and backgrounds. Outline the organizational structure, board, and ownership. Step 5: Detail operations Detail operations by laying out current and future market strategies, production plans, customer support, and key personnel. Step 6: Add a contingency Add a section detailing risks and provide a contingency plan. The reader needs to trust that you have thought of everything. Step 7: Forecast scenarios Forecast financial scenarios for procurement, investment returns, and cash management. Provide an exit strategy that relies on historical and financial data. Tip Add one-page bios with summaries of accomplishments of the founders, central players, and key management. Step 8: Construct an appendix Support the proposal with an appendix. Include additional documentation, patents, reviews, and letters of interest. Add non-compete agreements and resumes of technical principals. Did You Know? Waiter I was asking the lady actually. Tom Oh, right. Narrator Hello again. Anna and Tom are finally on their dinner date at a pizza restaurant. Eating could be difficult for Tom because he's sprained his arm after that accident in the office. He might still have romance on his mind but Anna is thinking about something else. Are you feeling nervous Anna? Anna Nervous? Why? Narrator Being out on your own with Tom. What are you going to talk about? Anna Don't worry. I can handle this, besides I want Tom's ideas about developing a new plastic vegetable. Narrator A plastic vegetable! Oh right. Well, good luck. Tom So this is nice. Finally, us together, on our own, me and you, pizza, red wine… expensive red wine, actually. Anna Lovely Tom. You know Tom, Paul wants me to develop a new idea – plastic vegetables – I thought, maybe, you might like to help me? Tom Come on Anna, we're not here to talk business. Tell me about you – the real Anna. Have you had many… err, many boyfriends before? Anna That's a bit personal. What do you think about plastic peas? Tom Err? Can you not switch off from work for one minute? Anna Tom. I think you and me are very similar – we're a good team. If we could come up with a great idea for Paul then who knows… we may get to travel the world selling it together? Tom Oh, I see. I hadn't thought of it like that. Right well… Waiter Your pizzas… madam… sir. Anna Thanks. Tom, I think you'll need some help cutting that. Tom Thanks. Mmm, you smell nice… or is that the pizza? Anna I've got it! Tom What? Anna Plastic aubergines! Tom Plastic aubergines? Anna Yes. Plastic aubergines. They would look great on this table – a sort of decoration. Tom Yeah! And you could put sauces inside… or salt and pepper. You could be on to something here. Anna We need to put a proposal together, to give it to Paul. But what should we say? Narrator Anna, your proposal needs to be brief but clear. Use positive language to propose your idea to Paul. Use words like 'exceptional', 'fantastic', 'quality', and talk about how it would benefit the business by using words like 'profit', 'efficiency', and 'value for money'. Good luck! Tom Are you OK Anna? Anna Yes. Just writing some things down. Tom OK, well write down how we could target restaurants and cafes. They'll be begging for our vegetables. Oh this is so exciting… let's drink to our… succ… Oh! Anna Tom! What have you done? You've knocked red wine all over me… and my notebook. Tom Ermm, sorry. We had better get you out of that dress. Narrator Hmm, what a mess and what a date! But what may be lacking in romance is made up for in a potentially successful business deal. Let's find out how it's going much much later at Tom's flat… Anna …this exceptional product has fantastic potential… Tom Say 'demand for this plastic aubergine will reach melting point!' My little joke. Anna …by making the production more efficient, our customers will get value for money and our profits will increase. There, done. Tom Great. We can pitch this to Paul first thing on Monday morning. So now, maybe we can get back to our date? Look I saved some of that pizza. Anna It's all cold! Anyway, I had better go. It's late and I want to tidy up this proposal. But it's been great. I can't wait till next time. Tom Bbbut… Tom Next time? Narrator Well, that went well! The pizza may be cold but Anna and Tom have developed a red hot proposal. Here's a reminder of some of the words you might want to use to make your business proposal stand out… Exceptional! 5 Keys to a Great Sales Proposal That Closes The Deal

Not only are most sales proposals not helping the sale, but sometimes they actually hurt the salesperson’s chances of closing the sale. Who taught you how to write a sales proposal? And did that person learn from someone who had tested out the world’s best approaches to proposal-writing? Probably not. As a result of my work with thousands of salespeople across industries, I’ve been able to see what actually works in sales proposals. I’ve adopted these successful ideas into my own unique proposal creation process. In this video, I’m going to share it with you. These are the 5 keys to a great sales proposal that closes the deal. Check it out. Video Summary: 1. Always give your proposal after a thorough discovery conversation. Now, for some people this may seem obvious; for others, not so much. But here's the key: A proposal never comes before a thorough discovery conversation. Ever. This is so critical that I have to make it the first key. You should never give a prospect a proposal until you've been able to thoroughly understand what’s really going on. That's the beauty of this proposal strategy that I'm going to share with you: It forces you to do a good job in discovery. When a prospect says early on, "Hey, can you just send me a proposal?" you’ll now always respond with something that sounds like this, "You know what? I'd love to, but I don't really know enough about your situation to be able to craft something that would actually be useful. Would it be okay if I asked some questions before we get to that proposal?" Then, you're off to the races. 2. Your proposal should lay out the discussed objectives. The key to a great proposal is that it must show that you really understand what’s going on in the world of your prospect. By this measure, it can't be boilerplate, because it requires that you've had a deep and thorough conversation about what the prospect is really looking to accomplish. You need to show that you’re clear on the prospect’s top three objectives related to the type of work that you do. This is going to go into the beginning of any strong proposal. 3. Your proposal should restate the value of achieving those objectives. This is where you create huge value in the eyes of your prospect—in two ways. First, you determine the value of your prospect achieving those objectives in the discovery meeting, by asking really good questions. Second, you're now restating that value to provide context for making a buying decision. The value to solve their objectives should be at least 10 times the cost of your solution. When you juxtapose those two numbers in the same document it makes sense. This way, making a decision to work with you is only a logical next step for the prospect. 4. Provide three options for accomplishing those objectives. Notice how I didn't say, "Provide three options for your services," because it's really not about your services or your products—it's about accomplishing those objectives. Most proposals only give one option. This is a lost opportunity, because no matter how strong your discovery meeting was, and how much research you've done, and how much you fully understand your prospect, you can’t read the mind of your prospect. By providing three options for ultimately working together, you cover all the bases. 5. Your proposal must double as a contract. This means that any great proposal should have a place at the end where prospects can sign the proposal to start the project. Every time we add an additional step in the sales process, we create opportunities for the sale to fall apart. Let's just imagine that your prospect says, "Yes. Let's move forward," and then you say, "Great! I'll have the contract drafted and sent over to you by the end of the day today." Now, you've created a gap between them saying yes and getting started. That time period is critical because you're no longer going to be in front of them, and they've probably moved on to focusing on other things. You want to be able to close the sale right then and there. Make sure that your proposal can serve as a contract. You want to avoid all of the legalese and just make sure that you can get it signed.

A product distribution proposal is an important step when trying to attract a potential distributor to your product. It also gives your business partners a clear understanding of what your product entails. This description is used as a selling point for what you're trying to market, emphasizing its benefits, both for your company and the interested distributor. This outline will show you how to construct such a proposal and why it's essential in landing the agreement you're seeking. What Is a Product Distribution Proposal & Why Do You Need One? A product distribution proposal is a written proposal that’s used as a bargaining chip to convince another party of the validity of what you're planning to sell. It's not something you write on a whim, using your charm and marketing skills to try and get the distributor you're trying to attract to say yes. It's a proposal that requires ample research, time, and planning. You should also be conversant with the distributor you’re pitching to so you don’t look clueless and unprepared when making your approach. You need such a proposal to outline realistic expectations for your product on the open market while elaborating on the ways your distributors will benefit. You can't sway them if they don't have the facts or figures laid out to convince them that your product is truly worth their time. Once you’ve analyzed, tested, and gotten an idea of how it works, you have some of the core details you need to substantiate your proposal and make it viable. Who Are You? Having a product without an identity behind it is pointless. What your business offers and what makes it stand out are essential factors to expand upon. You should also know what your product's short-term and long-term profitability ranges are and its target market, and don't forget to mention if further product versions are forthcoming. Distributors prefer to carry a product or product line that has a good shelf-life and strong key performance indicators or KPI. Such things are more enticing to the retailers that they distribute to. Include as much as possible about the product design, packaging, and highlight the target consumer's needs; all of these are details that the distributor and retailer will find encouraging. You must highlight your goals and objectives for this product in a straightforward, convincing manner. Furthermore, you need a sustainable business plan. It has to solve a need in the marketplace and represent ongoing profits, both for you and whomever you enter into business with. Be different and engage in long-term planning. Focusing on short-term growth can lead to missing growth goals on a consistent basis, and the distributor may be wary if you're not thinking ahead. Also, your proposal should get to the point. Distributors care about selling to retailers and sharing their profits, nothing else. They're not there to help you create a business plan or marketing strategy. They need solid facts that they can convincingly present to retailers. Your distribution proposal should already outline all creative intentions. What’s Your Marketing Strategy? As mentioned, you need to know who your target consumers are. Establish the demographic for your product and which distribution channels you’re most looking to utilize. For this, it helps if you’ve done your research on the selected distributor and aligned those channels with how you plan to market your product to target consumers. You’ll also have greater perspective regarding your marketing strategy or strategies. What you write in your proposal must enable people to visualize the product’s commercial value and attractiveness. The plan should include an analysis of the target consumer while also presenting marketing's four Ps: price, promotion, product, and place of distribution. Your sales projections and volume expectations should mirror a long-term vision. Writing a proposal can be a very costly endeavor so a 'fish or cut bait' attitude can save you a lot of needlessly wasted time, energy, and expense. Can you work within their terms, parameters, time tables etc? It would be a shame to either get the contract and not be able to fulfill it, or not get the contract due to a lack in the presentation/proposal, because of poor research. When considering a RFP for example you really must do your homework and if you do respond be sure to respond in a format for your proposal that has a history of being accepted by the entity soliciting the RFP. Before you start to write your proposal take the time to really think about the prospect and mentally 'walk a mile' in the prospects shoes as it were. Consider their problem, your solution, and can you deliver at the right price? It should not be what is in it for you when you are drafting the proposal it should be 100% about what’s in it for the prospect. Make sure before you start to draft this proposal that you know and are prepared to include exactly what will satisfy the prospect with the perfect bait. Let the prospect know that you are completely at their disposal to deliver their solution, in the manner that only you and your company can. Should you be delivering your proposal in person stay relaxed, focus only on serving your prospect; do not lose your focus dealing with a cell phone, laptop or anything else. Stay calm and cool when you present your proposal having the confidence that you are the perfect match for your prospect.
