Bridge traffic is closed, status and position of the ship not known yet. No details on the cause of accident. Fear of war in Ukraine - Power struggle for the Sea of Asov | DW Documentary
On the eve of presidential elections in Ukraine, the power struggle on the Sea of Asov is coming to a head. The Sea of Asov borders both Ukraine and Russia. Both states have the right to use it. Yet Russia is setting up obstacles to shipping on the sea. What if a situation similar to that in Crimea is threatening this region? Oleksandr Oliynyk, director of the port of Mariupol, is convinced that ‘Russia wants to destabilize our region and is exerting economic pressure to acquire what it failed to get in 2014.’ The economy of Mariupol has been suffering since the start of the war in Eastern Ukraine. The amount of cargo handled by the port has plummeted. Difficulties for ports in eastern Ukrainian were exacerbated after the opening of the Kerch bridge, connecting the annexed Crimean peninsula with the Russian mainland. Freight ships with a height of more than 33 meters cannot pass under the bridge, and can no longer reach eastern Ukraine. Russian border controls and the coastguard body of the FSB, the domestic Russian secret service, make matters worse, costing money and days of waiting for the ship owners. Fewer and fewer shipping firms are willing to call at eastern Ukrainian ports. ‘Of course we’re worried about losing our jobs’ says Artjom, a docker who has been working a reduced four-day week for some time. His colleague Sergej, at the neighboring shipyard, has had his hours cut since the beginning of this year. Everyone here is feeling Russia’s increasing pressure and dominance. Many are afraid that the war could also soon reach Mariupol. The documentary accompanies people in Mariupol and Berdjansk through their daily lives, just a stone’s throw from the front line. Their livelihoods are inextricably linked with the Sea of Asov, and they are at risk of becoming embroiled in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

cargo ship in storm at kuril islands
Cargo ship loaded with over 30 000 logs passing storm near Kuril Islands on the way from USA to China. As can be see in the video, we are steering exactly into the storm to absolutely avoid any rolling of the vessel. Otherwise the many thousand tons of cargo on deck could have been lost, the stanchions cannot hold the dynamic force of the movement of the logs. It happened to us that at night the ship came off course a few degrees and heavy rolling started and the big pile of logs started to move, the lashing became loose. Only immediate switching from autopilot to manual steering we were able to head back into the storm and stop the rolling. Otherwise deck cargo could have been lost as it happened to a vessel in front of us, they lost all the cargo on hatch 5 and half on hatch 4, (I have only pictures of it) or like the vessel in the following video: http://youtu.be/AWGlNAymZ6Y To loose the cargo on our maiden voyage wouldn't have been very nice.

Inside Oil Tankers - Documentary Films
CLICK HERE - http://activeterium.com/1DCR - FOR MORE FREE DOCUMENTARIES Inside Oil Tankers - Documentary Films All over the world, tanker operations are constantly moving. Oil tankers are ships specially designed for the bulk transport of either unrefined crude oil or petrochemicals. Their size classes can range from coastal or inland tankers of a few thousand metric tons of deadweight (DWT) to a colossal amount of 550,000 DWT. These giant specialized ships transport approximately two billion metric tons of oil across the sea every year. Crude oil is one of the world's most consumed sources of energy. Oil tankers, therefore, play a significant role in the way the country operates. Because of the products they are built to carry, without proper maintenance, these mammoth ships of black gold can also pose a threat on the environment. To ensure that an oil tanker does not severely impact the environment, oil companies must employ an expert and highly experienced ship management service to oversee tanker operations. They must also routinely check their oil tankers for maintenance purposes. Fixing the smallest dent, scratch or crack can mean the difference between safe sailing across miles of seawater and a devastating oil spill. On board the ship, safety measures should be strictly imposed. Because of the hazardous - and often flammable - nature of the materials being transported, the possession of flammable objects should be avoided if not prohibited entirely to avoid accidents, which can threaten the lives of the people on the ship, as well as the surrounding marine life. Whether at sea or anchored at a dock, tanker operations and safety measures should still be strictly implemented to prevent the ship from negatively affecting the environment.

On designing a stackable, bioclimatic shipping container home
Motivated by her love of mobile homes and bioclimatic design, as well as the surplus of shipping containers at Athens Port Piraeus, Nastazia Spyropoulou created a passive solar container home that is topped by a living roof and has little need of traditional heating/cooling. Her prototype Cocoon Module is made from a used (though good condition) 40-foot shipping container. She tried to retain the container feel, leaving the end doors in place, though they can be opened to reveal a sliding glass door. At the opposite side she cut a small bathroom window for cross ventilation. The tiny home is well-insulated and the living roof provides an additional layer of insulation so the temperature remains stable most of the year. In order to ensure that the home can be transported with ease, Spyropoulou added supporting beams to one side which means the containers can be stacked for a second floor and additional living space at a later date. http://www.cocoonmodules.com/ *faircompanies: https://faircompanies.com/videos/on-designing-a-stackable-bioclimatic-shipping-container-home/

*ALL TIME BEST* Somali Pirates VS Ship Security Compilation HD 2017
*THIS VIDEO FALLS UNDER THE FAIR USE OF COPYRIGHT FOR LEARNING PURPOSES AS ALLOWED BY US COPYRIGHT LAW* I am trying to educate people on how these Somali attacks work. A BBC profile of Somalia says that country, after decades of pure chaos, has been "inching toward stability." It looks like no one has told the pirates that infest the ocean around the small nation on the horn of Africa, though—in their efforts to get whatever money they can in ransoms for ship crews and cargo they've become such a huge problem for freighters that some shipping lines are hiring actual damn security forces. As you see in the video above, those security guys get put through their paces, too. In this video made on a bodycam, we watch as one guard behind a bulwark of sandbags pours lead down on small approaching pirate boats—and the pirates appear to fire back. It looks as though the Somalian pirate menace has even created a niche within the private security industry itself. The 2015 promotional video above for Seagull Maritime Security proves these outfits have been meeting the need for a few years now. Pirates have faced a few of the following: somali pirates somali pirates best of somali pirates vs marines somali pirates vs Navy Seals somali pirates vs army somali pirates vs helicopter somali pirates vs private security guards somali pirates get wrecked somali pirates arrested US Navy seals So while the shipping industry has clearly gotten wise since the events that inspired the 2013 Tom Hanks film Captain Phillips, it doesn't look like the pirates are necessarily learning any lessons—they've even attacked military transports. Of course, if they keep that up then eventually there won't be too many of them left. http://www.maxim.com/maxim-man/security-guards-gunfight-somali-pirates-2017-4

5 Mistakes New Importers Make When Importing Products from China
Discover the 5 mistakes new importers make when they are importing products from China. Don’t make the same mistakes! Get our free ebook: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step Freightos: http://wholesaleted.com/go/freightos First mistake importers make when importing products from China: Assuming that shipping by sea will be the cheapest option A lot of new importers think they will save money if they ship by sea rather than air. On the surface it seems cheaper as importers usually pay around 60 cents/KG when shipping via sea, compared to the $7/KG when shipping by air courier. Unfortunately what they don’t realize is that the reason it’s that cheap is because when shipping via sea, you ship via container, and you need to rent an entire container. They are very large and require you to be shipping hundreds of KGs to be making it worth your time. If you are an Amazon private label seller, you are unlikely to have enough stock being shipped to fill a container by at least 60-70% so it will be cheaper to ship by air. When shipping by air, you have two options: 1) Air freight 2) Air courier Air courier is when you have your items shipped door-to-door. It is the easiest but the most expensive per KG (although in smaller quantities it is cheaper). Air freight is when you have your items flown from one airport to the other. You will need to organize other additional services: * Having the items delivered to the airport * A customs broker * Having the items delivered from the airport to the final location. There are a lot of fixed fees with this which means it becomes cheaper to use air freight with larger quantities. To figure out which option will be cheaper for you, I recommend using Freightos. Second mistake importers make when importing products from China: Not using the Metric system In China, they use the Metric system and not the Imperial system. So be sure to use KGs instead of lbs and CM instead of inches. It’s important to remember that when working with Chinese suppliers that they expect you to work on their terms and their timeframes. It can be frustrating, but it’s worth it for the cheap Chinese products you import! Third mistake importers make when importing products from China: Using Less than Container Load for shipping When shipping by sea, you have two options: 1) FCL which stands for Full Container Load 2) LCL which stands for Less than Container Load Inexperienced importers fall for the trap of shipping with LCL because they see that the price are extremely cheap. What they don’t realize is that these LCL companies have special deals with the ports to charge you extremely high Destination Service Charges. The LCL companies then make their money in the form of a “rebate” which is essentially commissions/kickbacks. Destination Service Charges are usually priced per-container and cost between $500-$1000 per container for ports in the USA. But when shipping by LCL you end up paying a high fee per cubic meters. It means that you often end up paying a fee comparable to shipping an entire container. Don’t fall for this trap: If you can’t break even with FCL, then ship by air. Fourth mistake importers make when importing products from China: not calculating the correct duties you will need to pay When you import products from China, you will need to pay duties at the border. If you don’t calculate the correct rate you can get a shock if it comes back as more than you expected. Duties can be a bit complicated to work out because there are a lot of variables. For example, if you imported woolen jackets, you need to consider which country the wool came from, as some countries (like Israel) have duty-free agreements over wool, which would reduce the duties you had to pay. On the other hand if synthetic fibres were used instead of pure wool, then your duty rates would be higher since there are higher duties applied to synthetic fibres within the USA. To figure out what your duty rate is, find out what the HTS (Harmonized Tax System) code is for your item. To find this, ask your Chinese supplier as they will most likely know. You can then go through the HTS manual and find what the duty rate is for the HTS code of your products. Fifth mistake importers make when importing products from China: being afraid to make mistakes And finally - don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Through making mistakes you learn how to overcome them the next time and make even more money. Mistakes are apart of entrepreneurship. Learn from others - and learn from your own as well!

Russia: Harbin to Yekaterinburg cargo rail route opens up for business
A new cargo rail route linking the administrative centre of China's northeastern city of Harbin to the Russian city of Yekaterinburg opened on Thursday. The first Harbin-Russia international cargo train loaded with containers arrived for customs checks with the TransContainer company in the fourth largest city in Russia. According to the Vice Director of the TransContainer branch on the Sverdlovsk Railway Maxim Smirnov, "the time on the road amounted to 10 days," which is four times faster than previously possible. Previously, a delivery of goods from southern China to Russia had to be transported mainly by sea via the port of Dalian, which takes on average 40 days. SOT, Maxim Smirnov, Vice Director of TransContainer branch on Sverdlovsk Railway (Russian): "A group of containers were delivered from Harbin to Yekaterinburg from March 9 to March 10. The time on the road amounted to 10 days and of course this project should exist and it is very promising for the relationship between China and Russia. First of all, it is beneficial due to the short delivery period and it allows businessmen, including those from the Ural Region, to select either the variant with long-term delivery or a shorter-term but with a higher fee. And this is certainly a positive impact on the interaction between the regions of Harbin and Yekaterinburg." WORLDS LARGEST STEALTH AIRCRAFT to be built for Russian Military Pak TA
Great news for the Russian military plans are being made to build the worlds largest stealth military transport aircraft Pak TA. This new Stealth aircraft will provide a significant boost to Russian military power in to the future. Future Russian army could deploy anywhere in the world – in 7 hours. In the future, a fleet of heavy transport aircraft will reportedly be capable of moving a strategic unit of 400 Armata tanks, with ammunition, to anywhere in the world. And probably at hypersonic speed, enabling Russia to mount a global military response. According to a new design specification from the Military-Industrial Commission in Moscow, a transport aircraft, dubbed PAK TA, will fly at supersonic speeds (up to 2,000 km/h) and will boast an impressively high payload of up to 200 tons. It will also have a range of at least 7,000 kilometers. The PAK TA program envisages 80 new cargo aircraft to be built by 2024. This means in a decade Russia’s Central Command will be able to place a battle-ready armored army anywhere, Expert Online reports, citing a source in the military who attended the closed meeting. One of the main tasks of the new PAK TA is to transport Armata heavy missile tanks and other military hardware on the same platform, such as enhanced self-propelled artillery weapons systems, anti-aircraft missile complexes, tactical missile carriers, multiple launch missile systems, and anti-tank missile fighting vehicles. The PAK TA freighters will be multilevel, with automated cargo loading and have the capability to airdrop hardware and personnel on any terrain. A fleet of several dozen PAK TA air freighters will be able to lift 400 Armata heavy tanks, or 900 light armored vehicles, such as Sprut-SD airborne amphibious self-propelled tank destroyers. “With the development of a network of military bases in the Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia, which is expected to be completed during the same time period (by 2024), it’s obvious that Russia is preparing for a full-scale military confrontation of transcontinental scale,” Expert Online says. A source who attended the closed meeting of the Military-Industrial Commission told the media outlet on condition of anonymity that he was “shocked” by the demands of the military. According to the source, the PAK TA project has been ongoing for several years now and will eventually supplant the currently operating air freighters. But such a global mission statement for national military transport aviation has never been voiced before. “It means for the first time we have the objective of creating an operational capability to airlift a full-fledged army to any desired place on the planet,” the source said. This means delivering a task force the size of the former NATO and the US troops in Iraq, in a matter of hours to any continent. “In the context of the current military doctrine that defies comprehension,” the source said. The initial PAK TA specification entailed building subsonic air freighters with a conventional 900 km/h cruising speed and a moderate 4,500-kilometer range. The program involves the creation of wide-body freighters, with payloads varying from 80 to 200 tons, to replace all existing Ilyushin and Antonov cargo aircraft. The only operating aircraft with a comparable payload is the Antonov An-225 Mriya (up to 250 tons), but this is a one-off aircraft created specially for the Soviet Buran space shuttle program. Last year, it was reported that future military air freighters will be developed by the Ilyushin Aviation Complex, with some experts saying the company may base designs on the Il-106 cargo plane (80 tons) project that won a government tender in the late 1980s, but was abandoned after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Now, with ambitious specifications and objectives, the PAK TA is a truly next-generation transport aircraft. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Russian: Вооружённые Си́лы Росси́йской Федера́ции, tr. Vooruzhonnije Síly Rossíyskoj Federátsii) are the military service of Russia, established after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On 7 May 1992, Boris Yeltsin signed a presidential decree establishing the Russian Ministry of Defence and placing all Soviet Armed Forces troops on the territory of the Russian SFSR under Russian control.[5] The commander-in-chief of the armed forces is the president of Russia. Although the Russian armed forces were formed in 1992, the Russian military dates its roots back to the times of the Kievan Rus'. The armed forces are divided into: the three "branches of Armed Forces" (вида вооружённых сил): the Ground Force, Air Force, and the Navy the three "separate troop branches" (Отдельные рода войск): the Strategic Missile Troops, the Aerospace Defense Forces and the Airborne Troops the Rear of the Armed Forces, which has a separate status of its own
