India is in talks with Iran to begin interim operations at a port in southeast Iran, officials say, proceeding cautiously on developing the facility at a time when the Trump administration has laid an aggressive new approach toward Tehran. New Delhi plans to send seven shipments of wheat to Afghanistan through Chabahar by the end of January. A first shipment arrived last week from India's western Kandla port, after years of political wrangling with Pakistan, government officials in New Delhi and Kabul said. The wheat will be trucked from Chabahar to western Afghanistan. India is expanding its economic diplomacy in Afghanistan, seeing itself as a regional power. But Pakistan says India is trying to use Afghanistan as a base to destabilise Pakistan, and has long blocked India from conducting bilateral trade with Afghanistan using its territory as transit. The shipments are meant to demonstrate the route's viability, officials said, and the plan is to broaden the cargo flow before the port is fully operational by the end of next year. "Things are moving quite well and as planned," Saurabh Kumar, Indian ambassador to Iran, said in an email. So far, the United States, keen for India to do more to help stabilise Afghanistan through economic and security assistance, has held off public criticism of renewed Indian efforts to develop the Iranian corridor. India's ties with Iran came up during U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's talks in New Delhi last month, and the top U.S. diplomat said America would not stand in the way of projects that help the Iranian people. But he warned that the administration would crack down on financial benefits accruing to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the country's most powerful security entity, blamed for fuelling regional proxy wars. GATEWAY India has framed its involvement in Chabahar's development as primarily about establishing a gateway to Afghanistan, more than Iran itself, Indian officials and a Western diplomatic source said. Washington has not intervened directly in the port's development, but, previously, India drastically cut back its oil imports from Iran, one of its main suppliers, in the face of international sanctions on Tehran for its suspected nuclear programme. "In general, I get the impression that conservative analysts in (Washington) DC have accepted the fact that India will maintain some form of relationship with Iran," said Jeff Smith, a south Asia expert at The Heritage Foundation in Washington. "They recognize that for India, Iran is more about a transport corridor to Afghanistan; that it has no interest in advancing Iran's agenda in the Middle East; and that whatever space India evacuates there will be filled by China." An Indian government source said India Global Ports Ltd (IGPL), a company set up by the government to lead the Chabahar project, had held talks with Iranian authorities to begin interim operations. In August, IGPL applied for permission to establish a company to run the port, the source said. The plan is for IGPL to build two new terminals, one for container vessels and one for multipurpose ships. After some delay, IGPL awarded contracts last month for port construction equipment such as cranes, the source said. Iran, meanwhile, had completed the construction of a jetty. "We are moving slowly, but there is movement on the port development despite U.S.-Iran relations deteriorating," said Meena Singh Roy, an expert on India-Iran ties at the government-funded Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses. importance of chabahar port to india, chabahar port iran map, chabahar port vs gwadar port, chabahar port india, chabahar port current status, chabahar port google map, port made in pakistan by china, sea port iran bandar abbas, cpec pakistan jobs, cpec map, cpec india, cpec completion date, cpec progress, china pakistan economic corridor map, china pakistan economic corridor and its implications, what is cpec short easy,, Disclaimer- This channel is for defence related news worldwide . Spectacular view of Train gliding over sea on the dangerous Rameswaram Pamban Bridge! Train accidents, Cyclonic storms, Ships colliding into the bridge, People falling from train into the sea, Mishaps, Disasters the PAMBAN BRIDGE has seen it all and is still going strong withstanding nature's fury, man made hazards for over 100 years! The Pamban Bridge truly is a marvel of Engineering and ingenuity. I was lucky enough to behold the beauty of India's first ever sea bridge over the weekend. Enjoy watching GOC WDM3A 16476R Diesel locomotive in charge of the 16779 Tirupati - Rameswaram Meenakshi Express carefully gliding over the 2.3 KM long cantilever bridge at a restricted speed of 15 kmph! The Pamban Bridge : ---------------------------- The Pamban Bridge is a cantilever railway bridge on the Palk Strait which connects the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. The bridge refers to both the road bridge and the cantilever railway bridge, though primarily it means the latter. Opened in 1914, it was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India till 2010. The rail bridge is for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers, but has a double leaf bascule section midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. On 24 February 2014, the Pamban Bridge marked its 100th anniversary. The Rameswaram bridge aka Pamban bridge is 6,776 ft (2,365 m) long and was opened for traffic in 1914. The railroad bridge is a still-functioning double-leaf bascule bridge section that can be raised to let ships pass under the bridge. About 10 ships such as cargo carriers, coast guard ships, fishing vessels and oil tankers pass through the bridge every month. After completion of Pamban bridge, metre gauge lines were laid from Mandapam up to Pamban Station, from here the railway lines bifurcated into two directions one towards Rameshwaram about 6.25 miles (10.06 km) up and another branch line of 15 miles (24 km) terminating at Dhanushkodi. The section was opened to traffic in 1914. The bridge consist of 143 piers and the centre span is a Scherzer rolling type lift span. It's 220 ft (67 m) long and each of 100 tonnes. Pamban Bridge accident 1964 : ------------------------------------------- The 1964 Rameshwaram cyclone (also known as the Dhanushkodi cyclone) was regarded as one of the most powerful storms to ever strike Sri Lanka (known then as Ceylon) on record. Early on December 23, the storm struck Ceylon near Pamban Island with winds estimated at 240 kmph (150 mph), ranking it as a modern-day super cyclonic storm. At least 1,800 people lost their lives as a result of the cyclone. On December 23, an estimated 7.6 m (25 ft) storm surge struck the town of Dhanuskodi on the south eastern edge of the island, submerging the town and overturning the Pamban - Dhanuskodi passenger train killing all 150 passengers on board. The town, an important transit point between India and Ceylon, was completely destroyed and has not been rebuilt since. Thanks for watching! do subscribe to my channel for more train videos :)

Oman and India Brothers united by the sea
There’s a certain something about the Navy that’s truly stirring. It’s a truly inspiring sight to see a battleship, flags waving in the breeze, its emblems glinting against the rays of the morning sun as this mighty engine of war pulls into port, dwarfing you as you stand beside it. As you look up, your hand raised against your forehead, you can’t help but be amazed at the sense of might and power that such a vessel exudes, its sole purpose the defence of people those on board have sworn to protect. The brave officers and sailors voluntarily give up their civilian clothes that you and I take for granted and exchange them for the white and blue uniforms of navies all across the world along with the responsibilities that go with them. They say goodbye to their families and spend several months as defenders of the sea with barely a few weeks to spend with their loved ones. They head back to the open waters to take on the duties they vowed to never shirk. To see these brave men and women in action and in the flesh is truly humbling. Naval sailors go through some of the hardest training regimens across the armed forces, and you’d think that they’d be a few hours of down time for them when they pulled into port. A chance for them to stretch their legs and blow off some steam before once again embarking on the high seas. Any rest that would be coming their way would have to wait: T-weekly was recently invited to check out three ships of the Indian Navy that had come to Oman, as part of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), a multilateral training exercise across navies of the Indian Ocean Region to increase preparedness and togetherness, should they need to answer a united call to defend the region. Sailors from both countries stood proud across their ships, their right hands raised to their temples in crisp salutes. On shore, a guard of honour, assembled from naval soldiers, stood rigidly at attention, their freshly laundered naval tunics as white as the foam the ships left in their wake. It was truly a humbling sight to see these young sailors, who had spent the last fortnight on active duty in the open sea, delay their rest just a bit longer to welcome us on board their immaculately maintained vessels. The Royal Navy of Oman had sent one of its prize yachts, Zeenat Al Bahar, to Kochi, where the latest edition of the IONS was taking place, and having flown the Sultanate’s flag in India, sailors on three Indian ships would be sailing with their Omani brethren back to Muscat. INS Tarangini and INS Sudarshini, two yachts used by naval cadets of the Indian Navy, and patrol vessel INS Sujata, docked at Oman’s Port Sultan Qaboos alongside the Zeenat Al Bahar, the flotilla having departed from Kochi on the 14th of November. In doing so, the two navies were sending a very symbolic message: Oman and India were not only brothers at sea, but they had been for millennia. The routes they took traced the ancient trade routes across the Gujarat coastline and the Malabar Coast that once connected the Arabian Gulf to India, a route which brought thriving trade in the form of frankincense, spices, dates and precious stones between the two regions millennia ago, a practice that carries on to this day.“We also recreated the ancient trading routes between India and Oman, which go back in fact not just centuries, Source :- TIMES OF OMAN Disclaimer- This channel is for defence related news worldwide .
