There are times when even the most aggressive strategies will need to stop and consider a particular nuance in the game, or decide on a slightly more subtle tactic. In today’s session, we’ll be taking a look at how to play Aggro at a higher level, examining the common pitfalls many players make and how to avoid them. We’ll look at how to evaluate board states and cards for this archetype, as well as how to play against the other big deck types: Combo and Control. As tempting as the mantra “Always Be Attacking” may be, there are times when holding back for a turn or two, or only partially attacking might actually benefit your goal of dealing the most damage. Let’s go to an example: Let’s say that you’re in the middle of a game, and your opponent currently has two 3/3’s on board. You have three 2/2’s, and two more 2/2’s in your hand. You know you have the mana to play both of them on this turn if you want. But for now, do you choose to attack with all of your creatures? First of all, let’s look at the best blocks our opponent might have in this scenario. If we attack with all of our 2/2’s, our opponent will block two of them with their 3/3’s, killing two of our creatures. Two damage will go through. If we cast our two 2/2’s on our second main phase and our opponent does nothing on their turn, then we’ve set ourselves up for the same scenario again, effectively trading four creatures for four damage. This isn’t a very efficient line of play, so let’s reset and see how we could maximize damage given this situation. Instead of attacking, let’s assume we play our pair of 2/2’s, having a total of five 2/2’s on the battlefield under our control. On our next turn, we attack with all of our creatures. While our opponent’s two blockers are able to kill two of our creatures, we’re still able to get six damage through. Then assuming they don’t play anything on their turn again, we can get in for another two damage if we attack with all of our creatures again. In the same two turns, we’ve doubled the amount of damage we’ve inflicted on our opponent to 8, for the same cost of four creatures. Even though we’ve waited a turn to build up our board, we’ve actually come out ahead against our opponent. As basic as it might sound, analyzing the board state is key in understanding when to play your cards. When we play Aggro wantS to be able to hit our very early, low curve immediately and often, which means we will most likely be playing at most two colors. More than that, and we’ll run into problems if we miss a color or a land drop. For example, Mono Red Burn decks have almost always been a competitive staple in Modern and Legacy and have remained, thanks to its simple, one color land base. While more colors can give us more options, the focused nature of Aggro makes the possible risks less than ideal.

Magic the Gathering.. Tactics? Part 1

Magic the Gathering Tactics by SOE So when then game came out I was so excited I sat around for HOURS while the game failed to meet its launch date and eventually when servers worked I played like crazy. The game has flaws, like all SOE games, but it is kinda fun too. If you are a MTG fan I'd recommend at least giving it a quick once over. I know the graphics are kinda lame, again a SOE trademark, but I've played worse. Thanks for watching/ Please sub, like, favorite, and tell your grandma about the videos. Ankhgaming, OUT!

Tolarian Tutor: Deck Archetypes - Aggro, Control, Combo - A Magic: The Gathering Study Guide

That’s because we’re adept at recognizing patterns, not just in how things look, but how they interact with one another. In Magic, we often see recurring themes and patterns in how certain decks play out, and how they interact not just with your opponent, but the board state as well. We call these archetypes, because we see them come up in almost every format again and again like an old friend, or in some cases, an old nemesis. By labeling these different deck archetypes, we can understand what a deck is trying to do just by hearing the name of it. If I say “Red Deck Wins”, you know this deck is focused on a Aggro strategy, has no Control elements, and uses cards like lightning bolt and goblin guide. It immediately tells you what the deck is trying to do, and how going about it. In this episode, we’ll be exploring the three primary types of deck archetypes we see in Magic: The Gathering: Aggro, Control and Combo. We’ll talk about their strengths, their weaknesses, and how to evaluate cards to build these archetypes in both Limited and Constructed. Which of these archetypes should I play? This depends on the format, and also on the timing. If you’re looking for a good win rate, the best time to play an Aggro strategy is usually right after a set comes out in Standard. Because the format is still being in some ways “figured out”, being proactive and focusing on just killing your opponent is an effective way of getting those early wins. Once a format becomes more defined, it’s easier to build a Control deck to beat what other people are doing, which is usually at the end before the next set is released, or before rotation. Combo is sprinkled throughout the lifespan of a format sometimes, when and if there is a good busted combo in a Control deck. If people are playing a lot of Aggro decks, then it’s a good time to do one of those Engine decks, as long as it’s fast and can kill by turn 5 if there isn’t interaction. But honestly, the real answer to this question is: any of them you want! What is amazing about Magic: the Gathering as a game is its flexibility. You can express yourself through gameplay in almost any way you might wish. I love my Modern Merfolk deck, and no matter how it’s doing in the meta, I’ll continue to play it, regardless of what other people think. For you that might be your Cat tribal Standard deck, your Burn deck, or even 8 Rack. Whatever you choose, follow your bliss and fine tune it to the best of your ability. Different people play Magic differently, and in that lies the inherent beauty and freedom of the game. [HD 1080p] Magic: The Gathering Tactics (Trailer+Gameplay)

14:45
Magic: The Gathering Tactics is free to play 3D fantasy TBS (turn-based strategy) MMO based on the popular MTG franchise. The game is developed by Sony Online Entertainment. Magic: The Gathering -- Tactics is a turn-based strategy game, in which the player must defeat the opponent's army. The player controls a Planeswalker, and an army in the form of a deck of cards. The player starts with a starter deck, and can obtain more cards by trading them in an auction house, or by buying them in a cash shop. Gameplay differs from the card game in that instead of having land cards, which supply energy, the player automatically has a pool of energy depending on the cards in their deck. The player's Planeswalker is able to level up, which allows them to change their looks, add space to the deck, and specialize in talents. When player starts the game he/she will choose what color of magic to use: 1.White - You value law, order, and light. You love to protect the social order and the rule of law. At your best, you are just and protective. At your worst, you are authoritarian and dogmatic. Your enemies are black and red. You will receive a white and green spellbook. 2.Blue - You value knowledge, logic and deceit. You love to pursue wisdom but also to manipulate and deceive. At your best, you are brilliant and progressive. At your worst, you are treacherous and cold. Your enemies are green and red. You will receive a blue and black spellbook. 3.Black - You value ambition and darkness. You love power, and are a corrupting influence on those around you. At your best, you are resourceful and unashamed. At your worst, you are parasitic and amoral. Your enemies are white and green. You will receive a black and red spellbook. 4.Red - You value freedom, impulse, emotion and fire. You love instant gratification and acting on your gut feeling. At your best, you are passionate and decisive. At your worst, you are shortsighted and destructive. Your enemies are white and blue. You will receive a red and black spellbook. 5.Green - You value growth, life and nature. You love hunt, mate, kill, and eat - to you, that is all there is. At your best, you are instinctual and unpretentious. At your worst, you are vicious and unthinking. Your enemies are blue and black. You will receive a green and white spellbook. After choosing the color of magic player can make own card deck and choose what to play from four different game options: 1.Solo Play - Conquer the Story Driven Campaigns. 2.Pick-up Games - Play Single Games Against Others. 3.Tutorials - Learn to Play the Game. 4.Tournaments - Compete Against Others for Prizes.
