Travel video about destination Lhasa in Tibet. Now an autonomous region of China,.Tibet is an intriguing and mysterious land of snow high up in the Himalayas that borders Nepal, Bhutan and India. For centuries it was a dream destination for scientists, adventurers and missionaries and, once almost inaccessible, it was a blossoming yet hidden kingdom. Lhasa, the ‘holy city’ and ‘place of the gods’ is the capital of Tibet and also its largest city. The Jokhang Temple was originally built as a shrine for a special Buddha statue. In the seventh century the statue was a valuable wedding gift from the Chinese Emperor to Princess Wen Chen who had it transported to Lhasa. Around seven kilometres west of Lhasa’s city centre is the old summer residence of various former Dalai Lamas. The Norbuling Ka, Garden Of Gems, has been deserted since the end of the 1950’s because in 1959 the last Dalai Lama was forced into exile by the Chinese. A pilgrim trail leads up to Drepung Gonba that was built in 1416 by a scholar of Tsongkhapa who was the founder of the Gelug Order. The Gelug Academy is the earliest of the four main doctrines of Tibetan Buddhism and the followers of this order are also known as Yellow Caps. Lhasa is a a city of gods on the roof of the world and is undoubtedly one of the last mysterious locations on Earth. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us. Contact: [email protected] I was in Tibet 10th-19th of June, 2017. The link below is the travel agency with whom I had a really great 8-day tour in Tibet. http://www.budgettibettour.com Best time to go to Tibet is from May to October, this is also the busiest time in Tibet. Best months to camp in Tibet are May and September when it rains the least and the temperature isn't too cold. The peak of Mount Everest will be more probably hidden behind clouds in April, May, September and October. Tibet Entry Permits aren't typically issued in February and March, when Tibet is typically closed for foreign travelers for 5-6 weeks. In early April Tibet reopens for tourism.

The street life in Lhasa, the administrative capital of Tibet, China, mostly takes place around the Jokhang Temple, which is the religious center of Tibet. Members of the army are not taken into account. Lhasa is the administrative capital of Tibet Autonomous Region. It is the second most populous city on the Tibetan Plateau after Xining and, at an altitude of 3,490 metres (11,450 ft), Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world. The city contains many culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang temple and Norbulingka palaces, many of which are located in Chengguan District, the city seat. The 830 kilometer route linking Lhasa with the Nepal border at the Sino-Nepal Friendship Bridge remains the most popular overland route in Tibet. The Friendship Highway follows the western portion of Chinese National Highway 318. At the Nepal border, the Friendship Highway continues on the Araniko Highway for a further 115 kilometers to the capital of Kathmandu. Starting in Lhasa, this route goes through many of the most popular tourist spots that the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) has to offer. T/I: 10:26:53 Religious pilgrims continue to stream into the Tibetan city of Lhasa daily to pray - some still evidently devotees of the Dalai Lama, despite official Chinese disapproval. The people are drawn to participate in a ritual that dates back centuries by faith in Buddhism and a belief that their lives will be improved if they visit the sacred shrines of Lhasa. Thousands of Tibetan pilgrims and smaller numbers of Buddhists from around the world choose the seventh-century Jokhang Temple, the oldest and most sacred in Tibet, as their spiritual destination. They travel mostly by foot for days and even months. Hundreds of pilgrims, including red and saffron-robed monks and nuns, perform a variety of traditional forms of worship. Twirling prayer wheels and whispering mantras, a repeated line of prayer, the pilgrims circle the temple along a path known as the Barkhor. Pilgrims in prayer perform the kora - a circuit around the temple walked clockwise. The greatest degrees of merit are acheived thorugh prostration. Devotees touch their hands, upright in prayer, to their heads then to their throats and then to their hearts before falling to the ground. Travel video about destination Tibet Qinghai Express in Tibet. The Third Millennium marked the inauguration of a unique train, the Tibet Qinghai Express that travels from China to Tibet. A railroad through the Himalayas on the ‘roof of the world’ and the highest railway line on earth that leads through breathtaking landscapes from Peking to Lhasa. The journey lasts about forty eight hours and includes two nights on the train. The journey begins on a road that for much of the time runs close to the railway line and travels across the high mountain passes of the Kulun Mountains and at a height of nearly five thousand metres above sea level is a remote high plateau that lies within an earthquake zone and often encounters severe snow storms. The train winds its way higher and higher from one high plateau to the next up to snow covered mountains and into the “home of the gods“. Along with the Great Wall Of China and the Three Gorges Dam, the Tibet Railroad is one of China’s greatest structures. The trains travel at the highest speeds that are possible on permafrost, a hundred kilometres an hour and sometimes even up to a hundred and twenty! The Tibet Qinghai Express has already turned many dreams into reality and in future years even more passengers will experience this magnificent and unique experience. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us. Travel video about destination Tibet. Tibet is a relatively little known and mysterious land of snow high up in the Himalayas that borders Nepal, Bhutan ad India. It is protected by the highest mountains in the world and is a region that has developed a unique society whose philosophy, art and religious faith have earned much interest and respect.Lhasa is the capital of Tibet and also its largest city. The Barkhor Road extends for eight hundred metres around the Jokhang Temple and nearby Tsuklakhang Square. For the faithful a visit to the Jokhang Temple is the highlight of a long and arduous pilgrimage and the Dalai Lama once sat in its inner courtyard during the monks’ annual final examination, which was also a splendid festive event. On the other side of the Chakpori, a small mountain opposite Potala, is the seldom visited Sang Gya Thong Ku Temple that is somewhat hidden away and therefore off the tourist trail. This ‘temple of a thousand images of god’ is nevertheless very popular among devout Buddhists and is a place of silent prayer. The Yarlung Valley is full of history such as possessing the oldest field in Tibet, as well as the oldest village that is located at the foot of the country’s oldest fortress, Yom Bu La Khang, the rock palace of the country’s first mystic king. One of the largest monuments in Tibetan architecture is the unique Kumbum Chörten, a three-dimensional mandala that can be entered. Eyes decorate the upper part of the Stupa. The ritual walkabout begins on the lowest level with simple deities then follows the entire Pantheon of Tibet, immortalised in both sculptures and wall paintings. Despite Chinese influence, Tibet is still a religiously devout country with a fascinating monastery culture and amazing natural scenery. Tashi Delek!
