Korean metro system: South Korea (한국), officially the Republic of Korea (대한민국), is a sovereign state in East Asia, constituting the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The Seoul Metropolitan Subway is a metropolitan railway system consisting of 20 rapid transit, light metro, commuter rail and people mover lines located in northwest South Korea. The system serves most of the Seoul Metropolitan Area including the Incheon metropolis and satellite cities in Gyeonggi province. Some regional lines in the network stretch out to rural areas in northern Chungnam province and western Gangwon province that lie over 100 km away from the capital. The network consists of numbered lines 1–9, which serve Seoul City proper and its surroundings and named regional lines that serve the greater metropolitan region. Most of the system is operated by four companies – Seoul Metro, Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit (SMRT), Korail (Korea National Railroad) and Metro 9. Its first metro line, Line 1, started construction in 1971 and opened in 1974, with through-operation to Korail suburban railways. Today, it is one of the largest and most efficient metro systems in the world, with 331.5 km (206.0 mi) of track on lines 1–9 alone; wireless and internet service on all trains; and platform screen doors at the majority of stations. The first line of the Seoul Subway network started construction in 1971 with economic and technical assistance from Japan.[8] The first section of subway was built using the cheaper cut and cover construction method. Line 1 opened in 1974 with through services joining surrounding Korail suburban railway lines similar to the Tokyo subway. Today, many of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway's lines are operated by Korail, South Korea's national passenger and freight railway operator. This is similar to Europe and Japan, where the national railroad often operates local mainline urban railways, such as the S-Bahns in Germany, operated by subsidiaries of Deutsche Bahn, or JR East in Japan, which operates many other urban rail systems in Japanese cities. It has been described as the world's longest multi-operator metro system by route length. The system was rated as one of the world's best subway systems by CNN, and Jalopnik It is notable for its cleanliness and ease of use along with advanced technology such as 4G LTE, WiFi, DMB, and WiBro accessible in all stations and trains. Nearly all stations have platform screen doors installed; only Gaewha and some minor Korail-operated stations remain with open platforms. By 2017, Korail will completely install screen doors in every station and platform. The world's first virtual mart for smartphone users opened at Seolleung Station in 2011. All directional signs in the system are written in Korean, English and Hanja. In trains there are in addition many LCD screens giving service announcements, upcoming stop names, YTN news, stock prices and animated shorts. There are also prerecorded voice announcements that give the upcoming station, any possible line transfer, and the exiting side in Korean, followed by English. At major stations, this is followed by Japanese, then Mandarin Chinese, as well. Seoul Subway uses full-color LCD screens at all stations to display real-time subway arrival times, which are also available on apps for smartphones. Most trains have digital TV screens, and all of them have air conditioning and climate controlled seats installed that are automatically heated in the winter. In 2014, it became the world's first metro operator to use transparent displays for ads when it installed 48 transparent displays on major stations of Line 2 in Gangnam District. All lines use the T-money smart payment system using RFID and NFC technology for automatic payment by T-money smart cards, smartphones, or credit cards and one can transfer to any of the other line within the system for free. ▼ Donate 4 Memes ▼ Mairou's Meme Fund ▻ https://goo.gl/OOkKz2 Patreon ▻ https://goo.gl/hgT151 ▼My other fail channels ( ͡o ͜ʖ ͡o)▼ 2nd Channel ▻ https://www.youtube.com/user/MA1ROU2 Music ▻ https://www.youtube.com/user/Thastorcyclone

"Akiba," for short. This suburban Tokyo ward's seen it all, from Japan's post-war reconstruction to the economic bubblegum crisis of the '80s. Always on the cutting edge of progress, with a little something to offer even the most fetishistic of appetites, it was almost inevitable that this singular technocracy of indulgence would give birth to a whole new kind of appetite altogether. Enter, the “Synthisters” – vampires who prey upon the life energy of the town’s unsuspecting figurine-chasers, maid café connoisseurs and cosplayers. Those victimized by Synthisters take on the properties of their attackers while also withdrawing from society and becoming veritable shut-ins due to their newfound fatal weakness to sunlight. AKIBA’S TRIP tells the story of one such unfortunate soul: a young man named Nanashi who was lured into a trap by the promise of rare character goods and transformed into one of the walking undead. He, however, was spared the worst of his fate by the bloody kiss of a mysterious Synthister hunter named Shizuku. Together with the rest of his companions in an organization unofficially dubbed the “Akiba Freedom Fighters,” Nanashi and Shizuku must uncover the truth behind the Synthister plague and save Akiba from being overrun by violent, antisocial energy vampires. And of course, the best way to fight vampires is to strip them down to their skivvies so they melt in the noonday sun…

Sweden's backlash: Why the tide is turning for refugees - Talk to Al Jazeera In The Field
Sweden has received more refugees per capita than any other country last year, but many Swedes have started to question the country's immigration policies as crime rates and extremism are on the rise. Traditionally, Sweden has been viewed as welcoming to refugees. In 1970, most immigrants came from other European nations like Finland, Yugoslavia, Denmark and Greece. The 1980s saw people come from Iran, Chile, Lebanon and Turkey. In the last 10 years, the numbers have taken off and in 2015, nearly 163,000 individuals applied for asylum in Sweden, a nation of 9.8 million people. Syrians accounted for 51,000 of these asylum seekers, 41,000 came from Afghanistan, 20,000 from Iraq, along with thousands from Eritrea, Somalia and Iran. A combined 4,000 came from Albania and Kosovo. Today, around 1.6 million people living in Sweden were born in another country - that is 16 percent of the population. Many new arrivals are languishing in temporary housing, beggars and homeless live in the streets, and some neighbourhoods have seen an uptick in violence and extremism. Concerns over security are growing and recent information about members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) living in Sweden and going to fight in Syria has received lots of media attention. According to Swedish police, around 300 people, many of them from the city of Gothenburg, are believed to have gone to Syria. Then there's violent crime - in the past several months murders and assaults have taken place in asylum centres and in neighbourhoods with large numbers of immigrants. The Sweden Democrats, the only party that has been advocating a more restrictive immigration policy, is now the third largest party in opinion polls, despite efforts by established political parties to isolate it. So, what is behind the recent backlash against immigration in Sweden? Why is the tide turning for refugees in Sweden? Al Jazeera went to the Swedish community of Ostra Goinge, an area that has received a number of new immigrants, to speak to citizens and politicians about the country's immigration policies. Mayor Patric Aberg is a member of the Moderate Party, traditionally seen as a business-friendly party opposed to the ruling Social Democrats. He is calling for a "pause" to accepting applications for asylum. While he speaks of economic benefits he says there's a need to foster better "social integration". "In Sweden right now I think we need a pause. In a very short period of time, since June last year, we have received more than 100,000 refugees. As you may have seen here in our community, we have very few apartments, we don't see a growth of jobs enough to employ all those coming.... We cannot in such a short period of time take care of so many people, our system cannot handle this," Aberg says. "You look around the world and you hear reports about whats going on in Stockholm, Sweden, Europe and ask: will the people arriving here bring these problems with them? And I think this spread of fear is growing and we really need to work hard to ease their fear. It's not as unsafe as people think. But it's a feeling people have and we should take it seriously," he says. Locals in Ostra Goinge have mixed feelings about refugees and migrants settling in Sweden. "I guess they are doing what they can, but I think perhaps there are too many immigrants. It's been hard on the schools and our welfare system... We have received so many, and it takes time for them to integrate.... We have had problems with break-ins, we are not used to that... it happened to me, but they say it's being investigated," says citizen Maria Alm. We also speak to the Swedish Interior Minister, Anders Ygeman, who is responsible for police and border controls; Marja Lemme, a political scientist at Stockholm University; and Ivar Arpi, a columnist for the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper. - Subscribe to our channel: http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe - Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish - Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera - Check our website: http://www.aljazeera.com/

Is it a man? Is it a god? No, it's Kellan Lutz in 'The Legend of Hercules' - cinema

Betrayed and sold into slavery by his stepfather the king, Hercules embarks on a legendary odyssey to overthrow the monarch and restore peace to the land. Former Calvin Klein underwear model Kellan Lutz, who shot to fame in the 'Twilight' saga, said he was made for the role: "When Hercules came around, I was like 'This is me'." "I had so much passion for it. I had already read 'The Iliad' and 'The Odyssey' and tons of books when I was younger. In high school you have to read those books, I already knew all that stuff. It's all very fascinating, so meeting with Renny (Harlin, the film's director), he saw the fire in my eyes for the character, it was a bit of a no-brainer. We both just loved each other, working together, and we are excited for the ride to share that equal passion for it," he added. The director he spoke of is Finnish filmmaker Renny Harlin, best known for movies like 'Die Hard 2' and 'Cliffhanger'. He wanted Lutz to shape up for the movie. "Well there wasn't much time to get in shape before I started shooting. It's not like I could start one size and then gain weight to be another size, three months later. So not a lot of rehearsal time, not a lot of prep time. I'm an active guy, it's more my lifestyle. Renny just wanted me to trim up, so I adopted the Paleo diet which helped me shred up a little bit, it's high-protein, good foods for your body," explained Lutz. This silent film UNE PLONGEE DU "RUBIS" was one of a series of shorts made by a young Jacques Cousteau immediately after WWII. The film shows dive tests which Cousteau performed aboard the venerable French submarine Rubis. The goal was to show how men could use an airlock aboard the submarine to emerge underwater, both for research and potentially as a means of escape. Not really mentioned in the film is the fact that, in order to shoot it, Cousteau developed a series of camera housings that allowed underwater filming. The Rubis is shown at 1:00 cruising at sea. At 1:30 its crew, including a pipe smoking captain, surveys the horizon and at 1:54 prepares to dive. At 3:15 the boat is seen underwater. At 4;14 what initially appears to be ballast is dropped by the submarine, in reality deadly underwater mines, (This footage shot by Cousteau, is likely some of the very first to show a submerged submarine. Shots of a torpedo fired underwater at 6:20 are also apparently the first ever to show this activity). At 7:10 the dive team prepares to leave the submarine, putting on swim fins and scuba tanks. At 7:40 the first man enters the submarine's trunk. When all is in readiness water is allowed into the trunk at 8:30. Once pressure is equalized the divers emerge at 9:20. At 9:54 impressive underwater shots of the boat breaking the surface are shown as the film comes to a close. The French submarine Rubis (H4, 202, P15) was a Saphir-class minelaying submarine which first served in the French submarine pavilion, then the Free French Naval Forces (FNFL) during the Second World War and back with the French Navy. The boat was awarded numerous awards. Accordingly, as a result of Rubis's service with the FNFL, the boat was made a companion of the Ordre de la Libération by a decree issued by General Charles de Gaulle on 14 October 1941. After serving in Toulon with the 7th and later 5th Submarine Squadrons, in 1937 Rubis was transferred to Cherbourg. During the Norwegian campaign, in May 1940, Rubis laid mines off the Norwegian coast; the boat's mines claimed four Norwegian vessels in May and June, and a further three merchant ships in July. At the time of the French surrender on 22 June 1940, the boat was in the port of Dundee, Scotland in the United Kingdom, where the boat promptly joined the pavilion of the Free French Forces. At that time, she was commanded by Capitaine de Corvette Georges Cabanier. Whilst minelaying off Norway in mid-1941, Rubis encountered and torpedoed a Finnish merchant ship. Later in the war, the boat laid mines in the Bay of Biscay, claiming three German auxiliary minesweepers, an armed trawler, and a Vichy French tugboat in 1942, and a fourth auxiliary minesweeper in 1943. Operating off Stavanger in September 1944, the boat's mines claimed two auxiliary submarine chasers and two merchant ships. In October and November, Rubis continued in Norwegian waters, damaging but not sinking two vessels. On 21 December, the boat's mines claimed three auxiliary submarine chasers, a German merchant ship, and a minesweeper. Throughout the war, Rubis made 22 operational patrols, laying nearly 683 mines and sinking some 21,000 GRT of shipping. With 22 ships sunk (14 of them German, including 12 warships), Rubis achieved the highest kill number in the FNFL. From 1946 to 1948, she was used as a school ship for rigging in Toulon. Rubis was struck on 4 October 1949, and was sunk on 31 January 1958 to be used as a sonar target. The wreck lies 41 metres (135 ft) underwater between Cavalaire and Saint-Tropez, and has become a popular diving attraction. West African Truckers (Documentary)
West African truck drivers spend days, weeks, and sometimes months dealing with corrupt border officials and illegal checkpoints on harrowing delivery trips that should take just a few hours. -- The truck driver holds a mythic stature in American music, from the hayseed hagiographies of Slim Jacobs and Bobby Sykes to the liner notes of Big Black's Songs About Fucking. There aren't as many country songs about African truckers, but they are no less the virile champions of industry and gluteal fortitude as their US counterparts. On their backs rest the burden of an entire continent's economic development and through their bloodstreams runs a hell of a lot of the continent's HIV. Trade in West Africa is perennially fucked, partially because the colonial powers of the 19th and early 20th centuries chopped the place up into a pizza pie of nonsensical borders, but also because most post-colonial governments in the area were so unabashedly corrupt we had to coin the term "kleptocracy" to describe them. Driving a semi full of margarine a US state's length to its delivery point often involves passing through 3-4 separate countries and navigating the byzantine customs and immigration processes at each port of entry. Then there are the internal checkpoints manned by local police and customs agents on the lookout for smugglers, or non-smugglers who can be intimidated into coughing up a bribe. Then there's just fuckers who'll pull you over and straight-up rob you. Infrastructure ain't always so hot here, either. All of which turns shipments which would take a few hours in Europe or America into grueling, day-cum-week-cum-monthlong affairs punctuated by long and unpredictable periods of complete standstill. Which, in addition to wasting fuel and driving up the cost of goods with every unplanned stop, also fuels the sort of boredom that can only be fought by dumping money into the less savory sectors of the economy. Namely booze sales and roadside prostitution. Which is where the AIDS come in. Intrigued by the African long-haul trucker's dual reputation as the foundational building block of West Africa's would-be robust economy and lotharious Johnny AIDS-leseed, we hitched a ride with a trailer full of soap to see just how hard it is to get from point-A to point-basically-A-and-a-half. Guide rope being loosened at dock tilt up to ship with rope being pulled in 16. US expatriots waving goodbye from portside 17. Ship moving away, sailor on deck wave goodbye 18. Ship moving away 19. Wide shot of ship cruising along Saigon River STORYLINE: A US naval warship departed for Japan on Saturday after spending four days on a port visit in Ho Chi Minh City, the first US Navy vessel to have done so since the Vietnam War ended nearly 30 years ago. The USS Vandergrift sailed into dock on Wednesday signaling a new era of relations between the former foes. The historic visit comes at a time when the United States and Vietnam have been fostering diplomatic and economic ties and marks a new attempt at establishing military cooperation. The four-day port call follows a landmark meeting last week by Vietnamese Defence Minister Pham Van Tra and US Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld - the first time a senior Vietnamese military official has visited Washington. Bilateral ties have been steadily expanding since diplomatic relations were established in 1995. The frigate's arrival was symbolic of both nations' efforts to move into a new era of cooperation. Some Vietnamese say the port call is welcome, demonstrating that old wounds have finally healed following the conflict that killed 58-thousand Americans and three (M) million Vietnamese. Many of the sailors weren't even born when the Vietnam War ended in 1975 with the fall of Saigon, the capital of US-backed South Vietnam. The city was later renamed after Communist leader Ho Chi Minh. The frigate, part of the US Navy's Seventh Fleet, came from Yokosuka, Japan. Captained by Commander Richard Rogers, the 41-hundred-ton guided-missile ship carries about 200 crew members. Rise of strongmen leaders in China and Russia
김현욱 박사님 대담 And to tell us more about the recent rise of strongmen leaders in China and Russia, and their impact on the two Koreas as well as the U.S.,... Professor Kim Hyun-wook from the Korea National Diplomatic Academy joins us in the studio today. Thanks for coming in today. Pleasure to be here. 1- Two strongmen leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping both secured another term in office over the weekend,... perhaps opening a new era of one-man rule for the two countries. Where do we see this going? 2- And the two countries' relationship since 2012 has been quite dynamic,... with some even calling it the Xi-Putin honeymoon period. The two leaders cooperated in numerous fields including finance, trade, military, investment, and science and technology,... just to name a few. 3- But the two didn't get along on everything because Moscow's response to China's "One Belt One Road" initiative wasn't so positive. First, what is this new Silk Road narrative.... and why is Russia not so happy about it? 4- Considering that South Korea is neighbors with both Russia and China, how is their impact felt on the Korean Peninsula in areas of security, diplomacy and economy? 5- There are concerns though that we may be seeing more countries and their individual leaders pursuing their own narrow interests without regard for shared global peace and growth. 6- China has been one of North Korea's closest allies. With that in mind, what kind of stance does China have in regards to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula? 7- So how have Xi and Putin reacted to the upcoming inter-Korean talks and the potential summit between U.S. President Trump and Kim Jong-un? 8- With President Moon Jae-in seemingly in the driver's seat amid ongoing negotiations for upcoming talks with North Korea,... what kind of strategy does the South Korean government need to have in place? Spanish/Nat A woman from Ecuador is one of the thousands of ethnic Albanians stuck in refugee camps along the Macedonian border. Driven from her home, Maria Salamea and her two children are one of over 20-thousand refugees at a camp in Brazde. An estimated 40-thousand refugees are now thought to be in similar camps throughout the region. Maria Fabiola Salamea is married to a Kosovar man. Four weeks ago Serb soldiers burst into their house. She has not heard from her husband since. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "One night the Serbs came. We were frightened. My husband left through the back door. I left through the front door. All I managed to get were my two children. We left all our clothes, we left everything. The only thing I managed to hide was my passport. I left with all my husband's family, but we lost each other. I don't know what has happened to them all. The only person here with me is my mother-in-law." SUPER CAPTION: Maria Fabiola Salamea, Refugee This is now her home - a collapsed tent. Despite her nationality, Maria has been unable to find help. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "This is my passport. I am Ecuadorian. I have showed it to all the people, the authorities, but they can't do anything. This proves that I can leave. I have the right to leave because I am from Ecuador. What else can I do? With my passport I can come and go wherever I like." SUPER CAPTION: Maria Fabiola Salamea, Refugee An estimated 40-thousand refugees are holed up in similar camps throughout the Macedonian countryside. Thousands more have fled to Albania and Montenegro. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "The Serbs are bad people. As an Ecuadorian woman I say they are evil. They kill women and children, nothing stops them. They don't just kill men. They kill three month old children without thinking twice, just because they have a war with Kosovo. They are bad, so bad. As an Ecuadorian woman, what can I say? I have never know people be so evil, so vicious, as these people are." SUPER CAPTION: Maria Fabiola Salamea, Refugee In this camp alone, there are over 20-thousand refugees. Maria, like so many others, has lost all hope of finding her husband. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "I haven't seen him for three weeks. I don't know what has happened to him. I thought he would come here. I have looked for him, and looked for him, but nothing. I don't have any hope of finding him." SUPER CAPTION: Maria Fabiola Salamea, Refugee As the evacuation continues in Macedonia the European Union remains divided over how to handle the growing refugee crisis in the Balkans. Only a few E-U members have agreed to take in sizable numbers of displace ethnic Albanians. Also, France, Britain, Italy, Spain and Finland have opposed proposals by Denmark and the Netherlands that E-U nations absorb refugees proportionate to the host country's population. Serb troops have pushed about half the two (m) million Kosovo population out of the troubled province since February 1998 - more than 400-thousand Kosovo Albanians in the past two weeks. Maria has contacted the Ecuadorian Embassy for help. All she can do now is wait. S. Korea, Japan vow close coordination on N. Korea
미국서 한일 외교장관회담..."한반도상황 급진전, 북핵해결 전기" South Korean foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha is in Washington D.C., where she's been meeting with top U.S. officials, including the deputy secretary of state. And while there, she also met with Japan's top diplomat, Taro Kono, with whom she agreed to strengthen cooperation on issues related to North Korea. According to the South Korean foreign ministry, Kang and Kono agreed that the upcoming inter-Korean summit and the talks between North Korea and the U.S. will be a turning point for the issue of North Korea's nuclear weapons. Kang noted that Japan has been sending "positive messages" about its willingness to improve ties with the North. Kono expressed hope that better inter-Korean ties will help improve the relations between Japan and North Korea and resolve the issue of Japanese nationals abducted by the regime in the 1970s and 80s. They also agreed to work toward holding a trilateral summit of their countries' leaders and China. ‘Made by our hands’: Lebanese women preserve tradition as a path to empowerment
MENNA – meaning ‘from us’, or ‘made by our hands’ in Arabic – is a nation-wide network of over 650 rural and refugee women producers and cooperatives in Lebanon. In 2015, Amel Association International – a grantee of UN Women’s Fund for Gender Equality – launched its first permanent MENNA shop in Beirut, giving network members a year-round space to sell their handmade goods to the public. This video follows the story of a rare, traditional bread called Mallet El Smid and its journey from southern Lebanon to the MENNA shop in Beirut. The Mawasem El Dayaa Women’s Cooperative is among the last producers of this signature bread and one of 14 rural women’s cooperatives to benefit from the vocational trainings and market opportunities offered by Amel Association’s MENNA project. This video is part of the knowledge initiative of UN Women’s Fund for Gender Equality “Building Resilience in Fragility: Women’s Empowerment in Action” supported by the Government of Japan. Estonia votes in election amid concerns over Russia
Estonians are voting in a parliamentary election with centre-right Prime Minister Taavi Roivas the favourite to form a new pro-Nato coalition and fend off an opposition party that wants better ties with neighbouring Russia. Roivas' (35) has stressed fears of Russian interference in Estonia after Moscow annexed Ukraine's Crimea region last year.
