Last year we thought we knew, but 12 months later when Francois Gabart smashed the previous record, the sailing world drew breath. Was this the ultimate limit to the ultimate challenge? To find out, we looked at the history of round the world record breaking and talked exclusively to Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first man to sail solo, non-stop, around the world about how times have tumbled and what lies ahead. In addition, we go to Nassau in the Bahamas to witness an extraordinary victory as the world’s best compete in a champion of champions showdown. We also re-visit the grueling Volvo Ocean Race as the fleet careers though the Southern Ocean before parking up in the Pacific. The World Sailing Show - May 2016

Why would a moustache make you go faster offshore? We find out why some of the world’s top solo racing teams are sprouting weird shaped foils out either side of the 60ft racing machines and why they have got this nickname. We also head to the Big Apple, New York, to see America’s Cup racing on the Hudson River against the spectacular Manhattan backdrop. This was the first time that Cup boats had raced here for 120 years. Women sailors were queuing around the block when a new Olympic class was announced for the 2016 Games. Three years later and the learning curve has been steep, but the results impressive. So who’s in the frame for a medal in Rio? Olympic expert Andy Rice lifts the lid on the women’s skiff and gives his predictions for Rio. And on the subject of the Games, there’s one nation that has been in the top three medal winners for years, but now they want more, Gold. We find out how they are planning for success out as we head to the Sailing World Cup in Hyères. Plus, news from around the world.

Sailing the Most Beautiful Place in the World (Sailing Nandji) Ep 99

13:08
If i was ever to have an Eye-gasm.. it would happen here! Most spectacular place i've ever been! https://www.sailingnandji.com This week on Sailing Nandji, we make the decision to sail of the beaten path and head super remote in search of the most beautiful place in the world. During our time in Raja Ampat we had seen other tourists and dive boats from nearby resorts. We wanted to get as far away as we could, to the hard to reach places where very few make the effort to go. We first thought we would not visit the island of Wayag as it exactly that, a long way away. With strong trade winds blowing, it would be downwind sailing to reach the island but make it extremely difficult to leave. We decided it was worth it, even if we got stuck for a week or two. What we discovered was simply amazing and well worth the effort of being stranded in paradise! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We just arrived to Indonesia after cruising the Pacific islands. We departed Australia 12 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of no where, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL. https://www.youtube.com/c/frothlyfesailingnandji CLICK THE BELL to know when NEW Nandji videos are up! The 8th Wonder of the World - Sailing Nandji, Ep 70

14:20
The Marovo Lagoon, what a spectacular place. We spend some time with the local people and learn about a custom story. https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, after an overnight sail we arrive to the stunning Marovo lagoon. Solomon islanders like to refer to the Marovo lagoon as the 8th wonder of the world and we can see why. This stunning lagoon is a combination of 5 lagoons and over 800 islands! So much exploring could be done in just this part of the world! We spend some time with a local chief and his family and collect some water together in the local fresh water spring. We head to market with the chief and discover a beautiful little lodge called Rockocaseena. Ralph and Raynald have a small little picturesque bar where they play the music that Raynald creates. He is a music producer and he explains a custom story that he turned into a song that we use in the video. If you like his music hit him up! What Really Happens when you’re Sailing Around the World (Sailing La Vagabonde) Ep. 44

15:30
For me, sometimes extreme boredom, frustration with the motion of the boat, feeling isolated/alone, and missing friends and family bucket loads can lead to a little bit of a breakdown every now and then. I’m only human! There are always dramas onboard (EVERYONE has them), weather it be physical or mental. When La Vagabonde has been rocking and rolling back and forth for 4 days straight, and I’ve been copping bruises from the furniture and hoping for the slightest break in the weather that never comes, a boiling pot of water being thrown at me you could say was my last straw. The good times always end up evening out with the bad, but the unpredictability of each day can be stressful and has been since day 1. One day can be the best day of my life, filled with aqua blue waters, smooth sails, palm trees and sunshine, and the next can be the worst….. no sleep for a few days, breaking expensive equipment, haven’t showered or eaten and I’m questioning what on earth I’m doing trying to sail around the world having no sailing experience. But in the end, it’s all worth it for me. I love every minute of it, what we have seen and done around the world with Riley on La Vagabonde. But holey tolitos sometimes it can be tough! Do you guys want to see more of the bad times in videos? Please leave a comment and let me know. Love, Elayna. Want the chance to come aboard/unseen footage privileges? Diving with Peaceful Giants - Adventure 45 of Sailing Around the World

We just officially launched our own Shop! Go check it out: https://sailingnahoa.com/shop/ SUNGLASSES: https://sungod.to/Q2quGU86 WANT US TO MAKE MORE VIDEOS? https://www.patreon.com/nahoa Fiji is a fantastic mixing pot of culture. With a massive Indian influence in the major cities to Kava drinking locals in the outer islands. It is an experience that we will never forget. In this adventure we entertain ourselves in the big city of Suva then set sail to Kandavu known for it’s incredible diving on astrolobe reef and Kava. The diving was indeed spectacular. From Manta Rays to Dog Tooth Tuna. Kandavu has it all including Kava! As we sail around the world we always do research before setting arriving in a new place. We google. We read blogs of other cruisers. This time we came across the logs of the sailing vessel Delos (the first pioneers of sailing youtube channels). Sure enough, they came to Kandavu and sailed right into Kavala Bay. It's no coincidence that the word 'Kava' is inside 'Kavala Bay'. As soon as we stepped foot on land we were invited that night to a Kava ceremony. Kava is a big deal in Fiji as well as well as many other nations in the South Pacific especially Vanuatu. Kava is a muddy drink made by grinding up Kava root. It's a sedative, anesthetic and euphoriant. Basically it's effects are much like alcohol but perhaps not as strong. Finally after much shenanigans in Kandavu, we were off to the Yasawas, the sunny side of Fiji where the beautiful beaches, sunsets and scenery did not disappoint! We hope you enjoy this episode as we poke around the south and western parts of Fiji. THE BEST SAILING DESTINATION IN THE WORLD- SAILING FOLLOWTHEBOAT Ep 93

▶ Check out my gear on Kit: https://kit.com/followtheboat In 12 years of cruising around the world, this is the MOST BEAUTIFUL AND SPECTACULAR place we have EVER VISITED! You can ONLY GET HERE BY BOAT! Kick back and enjoy some soothing relaxation with the beautiful drone and underwater footage of this tropical island paradise. Moonrock Bay is an exceptional place, with some of the most healthy coral we have seen anywhere, a coral garden next to each of the paradise islands and a pristine reef just a little further out. Could this really be the best sailing destination in the world? We will remember sailing in Indonesia and visiting the Anambas island group for the rest of our lives. This is why people become world cruisers. We saw turtles swimming and tracks of new hatchlings in the sand. We stayed for four days, but could have stayed for four weeks or four months. Sailing: Why SAILING is the BEST way to TRAVEL the WORLD!! This video isn't one of our scheduled "stories" per se, but Kristi put together this short video focused on Tasha and her sailing and travel experiences and we just had to share it! It's short, it's sweet, and it gives some background to how we got started and how we pursued a dream, and it gives a little glimpse at what is in store for the future. Kristi put this amazing video together as a kind of profile of her skills as a videographer and we just had to share it with you, we love it so much. Enjoy! Happy sailing everyone! Sailing Annapolis Boat Show

13:14
The boat show season continues with the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, a charming historic town where we meet up with many popular sailing authors, filmmakers, bloggers and vloggers. During this boat show, we’re based at the Discovery Yachts Group booth aboard the Southerly 540 on display. The layout is similar to that of our new boat, Distant Shores III, the new Southerly 480 we’re having built so we show you around. The weather is unseasonably warm for this year’s boat show and we speak with lots of Distant Shores fans who drop by the booth to say hello as they search for their dream boat and enjoy the sunshine. We also take you to a couple of the cruising seminars that we give each year at the show. The highlight of the weekend is an evening sail with friends aboard their Southerly 42, “Times Remembered”, where we’re treated to a sunset view of the town and boat show from the water. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Featured in this video: United States Sailboat Show: http://www.annapolisboatshows.com/united-states-sailboat-show/ Discovery Yachts Group / Southerly Yachts: https://discoveryyachtsgroup.com/ Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose: https://www.youtube.com/sailingyachtrubyrose Cruising World Magazine: https://www.cruisingworld.com/ Canadian Yachting Magazine: http://www.canadianyachting.ca/ Cruising Outpost Magazine: http://www.cruisingoutpost.com/ Cruising Off Duty: https://www.youtube.com/cruisingoffduty Sailing Totem: http://www.sailingtotem.com/ Voyaging with Kids book: http://www.voyagingwithkids.com/ The Boat Galley website and cookbook: https://theboatgalley.com/ Lin Pardey/Storm Tactics DVD: http://www.landlpardey.com/storm-tactics-video-dvd.html On the Wind Podcast/59-North: https://www.59-north.com/podcast/ Windtraveler.net: http://www.windtraveler.net/ #BVIStrong T-shirts and Hats: http://www.remembertheadventure.com/bvistrong World Cruising Club Rallies and Seminars: https://www.worldcruising.com/index.aspx Sail Magazine: https://www.sailmagazine.com/ ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• All 130 full half-hour episodes of the Distant Shores Sailing Adventure TV series are available as HD downloads and also on DVD thourgh the Distant Shores website. The Ferrari of the Dinghy World (Sailing Nandji) Ep 94

14:11
Completing passage and arriving to Sorong, Indonesia, we fix whats broke and collect a little something new! https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we complete the last leg of our passage from Jayapura to Sorong, Indonesia. After making our offering to Neptune, we were quickly beaten back into the Southern latitudes by a strong squall. The final 150nm of passage we were greeted with fisherman and the Navy... Arriving to Sorong with a few things broken it was a bitter sweet arrival as we had some very important items break on passage but we had arrived in time to collect a new toy for Nandji! Sailing 'how to' vids - tell us what you want??

In our 18 years of sailing we’ve made our fair share of mistakes and we have learnt a lot. We reckon there’s a few tips and tricks that other channels have missed that we’re happy to share. It’s time for us to pass these on and help you enjoy more good times sailing! Before we do, we’d love to hear which topics would be most helpful to you. Just to get you thinking, here are some topics you’ve asked us online and things that we’ve swapped notes on with our cruising friends: - How to anchor and test the anchor hold (e.g. tip not seen in other vids: if you’re towing a dinghy, remember to shorten the painter… many moons ago Fil and I forgot and the painter wrapped around the rudder as we reversed :-/) - Anchoring near coral heads / bommies - Docking at marinas - How to keep everyone on board happy and safe, including guests and crew - How to prepare for an offshore passage - Navigation and weather forecasting - Provisioning and cooking on board - How to avoid seasickness - Night watches - Single-handed sailing - Sailing with kids - How much it costs to go on a world sailing adventure - Starting out, kitting out a boat - Basic boat maintenance - Why we chose a Hanse 455, what we like and dislike - What we’d do differently next time, advice for folks thinking about doing the same.

SAILING ALONE AROUND THE WORLD - FULL AudioBook | GreatestAudioBooks.com

07:53:05
SAILING ALONE AROUND THE WORLD - FULL AudioBook | GreatestAudioBooks.com - Joshua Slocum (February 20, 1844 – on or shortly after November 14, 1909) was the first man to sail single-handedly around the world. He was a Nova Scotian born, naturalised American seaman and adventurer, and a noted writer. In 1900 he wrote a book about his journey Sailing Alone Around the World, which became an international best-seller. In 1899 author Joshua Slocum published his account of the epic voyage in Sailing Alone Around the World, first serialized in The Century Magazine and then in several book-length editions. Reviewers received the slightly anachronistic age-of-sail adventure story enthusiastically. Arthur Ransome went so far as to declare, "Boys who do not like this book ought to be drowned at once." In his review, Sir Edwin Arnold wrote, "I do not hesitate to call it the most extraordinary book ever published." Slocum's book deal was an integral part of his journey: his publisher had provided Slocum with an extensive on-board library, and Slocum wrote several letters to his editor from distant points around the globe. Slocum's Sailing Alone won him widespread fame in the English-speaking world. He was one of eight invited speakers at a dinner in honor of Mark Twain in December 1900. Slocum hauled the Spray up the Erie Canal to Buffalo, New York for the Pan-American Exposition in the summer of 1901, and he was well compensated for participating in the fair. On November 14, 1909, Slocum set sail for the West Indies on one of his usual winter voyages. He had also expressed interest in starting his next adventure, exploring the Orinoco, Rio Negro and Amazon Rivers. In July 1910, his wife informed the newspapers that she believed he was lost at sea. Slocum was never heard from again. IMPI SAILING THE WORLD (PT 1)

17:49
Back in South Africa visiting family and friends our You Tube followers are asking us to post more videos. I thought this would be a great opportunity to reflect on the oceans we have sailed, the places and people we have met and whilst everything cannot be shared, we hope this video will provide some insight into the vibes we feel as we sail into different territories and engage with different cultures. At the moment Impi is in New Caledonia for its 3rd visit ... Impi has sailed from France to South Africa via Brazil, South Africa back to Brazil, Brazil to the Caribbean islands, British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas and Florida, Key West to Cuba, Jamaica to Panama, Galapagos, Marquesas, Society islands, Maupiti, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and New Zealand, Back to New Caledonia and on to Australia and back again to New Caledonia ... we continue to sail ... where to next ... well ... who knows !

In 12 years of cruising around the world, this is the MOST BEAUTIFUL AND SPECTACULAR place we have EVER VISITED! Previously unseen footage from the air and underwater of this stunning deserted island highlighted in our previous episode, The Best Sailing Destination In The World? ❤️ Fancy spreading some love? Join our crew and become a FOLLOWTHEBOAT MATE! It'll cost you less than the price of a coffee... ☕ http://followtheboat.com/THANKS/ You can ONLY GET HERE BY BOAT! We hope you enjoy this, our most ever relaxing video. Swan 54 Yacht on Test | Yachting World

Yachting World's Toby Hodges gets aboard the first Swan 54, a couple's bluewater cruiser and one that returns Swan to its cruising roots. Tested from Nautor's yard in Finland. ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Yachting World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/user/yachtingworld?sub_confirmation=1 The Swan 54 is designed as a pure bluewater cruiser that is ideally suited for a couple. It uses the hull mould of the Swan 53 (a 2005 Frers design), but the rest of the boat is completely reconfigured to give a more contemporary look and feel. But is Nautor’s decision to re-use an old design a step backwards, or is it just sensible to recycle proven lines? ► Read more at http://www.yachtingworld.com/video/boat-test-videos/swan-54-new-yacht-test-video-return-nautors-bluewater-roots-109085#Ibc8DtqTsoquIsi9.99 ► For the latest reviews, new gear launches and tour news, visit our website here - http://www.yachtingworld.com ► Like us on Facebook here - https://www.facebook.com/yachtingworldmagazine ►Follow us on Twitter here - https://twitter.com/yachtingworld ►Feel free to comment below! ►Remember to hit that LIKE button if you enjoyed it :)
