before you run : alter system set log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION.... run: create spfile from pfile='c:<the path file of your initfinance.ora folder\initfinance.ora'

at msdos command prompt type: copy con set.bat set ORACLE_SID=finance set ORACLE_HOME=<your oracle home directory> crtl z and enter next type set at msdos prompt and it will do the job. easy..:)

This problem arises when the LOCATION you set does not exist. So instead of using LOCATION='C:\database\oradata\finance\ARCHIVED_LOGS' use a file path that already exists on your computer.

I issued the above commands and first all are working fine.. But after some time I logged the ORCL database with the username sys as sysdba. Conn to an idle instance. then I issued STARTUP but it errors.. ORA-16032: parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1 destination string cannot be translated ORA-09291: sksachk: invalid device specified for archive destination OSD-04018: Unable to access the specified directory or device. O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified. Pl help 2 solv pro
